• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Official New and Improved General Shiny Thread

Pokémon Master!
Re-posting from from the (now closed) Shiny Pokémon & PokéRadar thread. Hope that's okay..

Last night at about 3:00 A.M. I caught a Shiny Clauncher from consecutive fishing in Cyllage City! I don't know exactly how many hooks I was at when it appeared. But I'd say roughly around 37? Anyway here are some pictures. She has Mild Nature. I wish it was Modest, but at least Mild is still a Sp. Attack raising Nature, so it's not that bad. I'm thinking about trying for a Shiny Horsea(Preferably Male) or a Male Shiny Clauncher to have a brother-sister thing going on between the 2 Clauncher. Heh. (Yeah, I like to give my Pokémon backstories...)

In the battle of it's encounter

Joined to post my experience with Shinies: On Saturday, I finally hatched my MM'ed Growlithe after 163 eggs (my favorite pokemon). The next day, in my second attempt at chaining in X and Y, I got a shiny Ditto on my 6th chain. Now trying for a skrelp with this supposed fishing technique to get a shiny from each method, got a chain of 94 so far but no luck as of yet.

Yesterday I got :
Shiny Relicanth
Shiny Horsea
Shiny Luvdisc

Today I tried catching shiny skrelp with modest nature. Fainted my Inkay in 1st slot, kept synchronized modest in 2nd slot, and I have 3 shiny skrelps but all wrong nature. Just now tested the method on random pokemon and only 1 out of 12 random pokemon i caught had modest, so i guess keeping it in 2nd slot doesnt work.

Also got a shiny poliwag today. So that gives 7 shinies in 2 days. But I guess Ill stop trying for skrelps, dont want a box full..

I realize this, but what I was trying to explain is just beating the elite 4 does not make the third pokemon magically appear like some people believed. Beating the elite 4 makes it available, but not until you are both online. What they were saying is, you beat the elite 4 bam! the third pokemon appears.

...I think I get what you are saying.
Once someone beats the game [one game is needed for this] and when they are online, then the Safari of ALL games that have the 3DS' Friend Code will gain that final Pokemon on the slot. Once that is done, then they no longer need to be online...again.
That is my hypothesis.

Well lots of Shinies again. Congratz to everyone who got one. :)

Since there's a small debate about Shinies and their rarity I shall too give my opinion: I actually agree with both sides. I mean sure Shinies are awesome and all, but for me a Chain fished Shiny is worth less then RE'd, MM'd or even chained shinies. (Do note that I'm not saying CF shinies are worth less compared to other obtained shinies)
I'm only trying to say that for me the fun part about Shinies is/was the unexpected factor (completely random shinies when you're not hunting) and the accomplishment of getting one after the work you put into it. But like I said every shiny is special in its own way and for everyone there is another reason to get a shiny.
Anyways this is just my opinion so don't get all mad at me or something. (That's not what this thread is for anyway. XD)

And now my Shiny Hunt Report:
I decided to do a BQ on my X and continue my BQ on SS. Both haven't given me a shine yet but I'll keep hope. :)
400 RE's on Route 2 on X. (Hoping for Fletchling/Pidgey)
Over 3000 SR's on SS for a Shiny Starter. (Hoping for Totodile/Cyndaquil. Since I already have Shiny Meganium)

I found a shiny clauncher after 121 consecutive reels. I suppose this method actually does work. I was JUST beginning to complain to myself too.

lel.

Quirky nature, which is only neutral but I mean, definitely could be worse.

Caught a shiny Wobbuffet in the Friend Safari 2 days ago, so that was neat. I've also tried the pokéradar, but I suck at that. I'm now giving the chain fishing a try, but have had zero shinies in my first 63 chain attempt. I don't know if it matters (I think not), but I'm not actually battling the pokémon I fish up, I run away from them.

I'm also still desperately trying to breed or otherwise get a shiny Zorua, but sadly, no dice yet xD

So is it official? Are shinies definitely easier to catch in X and Y? Not sure how I feel about this news...

I know this is random, but can someone please explain why there are shiny locks in the first place?

just got my 11th unique shiny, a poliwhirl. I'm gonna stop shiny hunting now or go back to the hordes or friend safari

So you participate in an event gamefreak puts on so they can make more money and appeal to the shiny crowd I would think

Don't think so. I Sr,d for a froakie over 1000.times w no luck. Also on about 200.mm eggs with honedge and nothing. Beat the game no random encounter shinies. Id say it's the same except for fishing but that is limited to just fish

I agree with you ten folds. I have not encountered one single shiny yet and I finished the game. And I am over 600 eggs...and still no shiny Swirlix.

It'll be interesting to see actual numbers or formulas, if they're ever reverse-engineered or if the 3DS becomes hackable, but I also find it hard to believe that the base shiny numbers have been lowered. I have only seen shinies thus far with chain fishing and the PokeRadar. I think the sheer volume of people that are currently playing will only lend itself to more shinies being found and reported.

I've been viewing the forums for several years as a guest, but I decided it was finally time to get on here for real!

Found a shiny Corsola and a shiny Skrelp earlier today using the chain fishing method, so it's looking to be a good day so far! Maybe my perfect adamant shiny Scyther will hatch today.
