Shiny Hunter
Oh lucky! I'm still MM'ing for a shiny Vulpix myself. I'm at about 3,750 eggs now/

Wow, I hope you hatch that Vulpix soon! Good luck.

I'm around 1,300 eggs for Eevee now and nothing yet but I'm not giving up! I'm also still SRing for Moltres, I'm guessing I have done around 3k-ish SRs for it so far. Hopefully something gives soon!

Gratz on the recent shinies, especially NightHaze12 on Froakie and good luck everyone! :]

ようこそ!ワタシの音楽工場へへへへへ
shiny shuppet appears!

this little beauty appeared no longer than 167 REs after spiritomb so i was able to fully experience the FS hax that has been going around. unfortunately she has frisk and the synchronizer didn't work so she turned out quirky (but eh, neutral nature is still ok). i'll stay in the safari for a bit longer to get pumpkaboo or another shuppet since i love both shiny shuppet and banette and i can't decide whether i should evolve mine or not. then i'll MM for whichever of those two that doesn't appear. if a shiny spiritomb appears then, well... screw me. :p

Three days of no shiny with dual hunting with two shiny charms in my black2white2 games.

Hoping for a shiny watchog though, hunting on route 3.

==========================

Alright, while waiting for X on 25 December, I went planning on how to play trough it. And I got an incredible, unique idea which I haven't seen nor heard of it.

Badge Quest Nuzlocke!

It's a regular badge quest, but with something extra.

Rules:
~ Get a shiny before every gym.
~ Get a shiny before the pokémon league.
~ Get a shiny after the pokémon league to complete your quest.

Regular rules, right? Now something extra.

~ You may only use shiny pokémon at the Pokémon Gyms & League.
~ If your shiny pokémon faints, you have to continue the battle.
~ After the battle (Win or lose.) You put the pokémon who fainted into a box or pokébank. (Not gonna release.)
~ You will have to catch a new shiny for every pokémon who fainted.

This quest is so intense, that I could win with 10 shinies or win with 100 shinies.

I'm really gonna do this, what do you guys think about this quest?

That sounds like a really fun and interesting quest. Since the odds are lower in Gen 6 it's also a possible one, perhaps that's why no one's dared to try it before.
I'd say go for it! ^^

I've actually considered this same idea, at least, doing a Nuzlocke with only shinies and replacing them with another shiny if they die.
However, I haven't actually done it yet because I've been so busy with my 2-3 regular BQ... I'm not having the best luck >3<
I might think of trying it on X though since the shiny odds have been raised a little, so with that said I think it'd be really cool to see someone else do one too. Probably before me, since it'll be a while till I'm able to do one, if I decide to ^~^

Aaanyways, congrats as always on EVERYONES shinies, and one day I will find time to write personal congrats again.
Also thank you to the people who replied to my last question (though I only saw 2, since there are a lot of posts). I will save my Poliwag hunt for SoulSilver, at least for now, and if I do get tired of waiting (say my other hunts don't feel like being quick hunts) then I can always fish one anyways. Nothing is forcing me to wait, but for now I will!

Update on my current hunts!

Noibat is coming along well, I'm hatching the rest of my stored eggs now which will put me up to 510-ish once I'm done hatching them. Hoping I might get a shiny before then though, I'd like to playthrough the game now... Stuck at 1 badge haha X3
Sandile is coming along... okay, considering I'm past 15,000 and still shinyless. As I've said before, I'll go to 20,000 if I have to but dammit I better get a Sandile if I do D: D: D:
Johto Starters is officially a-go! Boyfriend has volunteered to do a couple 100 SR's for me to help get it started, and so far I'm closing in on 400 SR's, and 1200 starters seen. Of course, nothing yet, but I have to keep going till I get Totodile (it's the only one I don't have) so here's hoping it goes well!

Please send lots and lots of luck to Black 2 for me! T_T
I'll send a HUGE amount of luck back to you all, I just want to get this hunt over, partly from boredom and partly because I am SO super excited to get Sandile (hopefully) and move on to (hopefully) get shiny Woobat next!

Good luck everyone! Sending out extra today in hopes I get some back!

How on earth do people use the Pokeradar so well?! I can't keep a chain over 5! X_x *sob*

And congrats to all!

I am trying to fish for a shiny Dratini... Forgot if I mentioned it. It's sooo hard... If I don't reel in too fast, because of Anxiety, I run into a billion Basculin. XD I kept one and I trade the others away. Right now, I'm taking a small break and try to fish for Magikarp. If I get a girl, her name will be Scarlet. They are so cute in Pokemon Amie, when you pet their fins. Sooo fishy! X3

I had problems with the Pokeradar as well until I found a guide that explains how to use it. The guide doesn't post very well (it's a very large graphic), so here's the basics on how to use the Pokeradar:

1. Buy a LOT of Super/Max Repels. Like at least 99 of them.

2. Go to a grass patch that is sufficiently large, probably at least 40-50 patches squared (so like 4x10 or 5x10) and turn on the Pokeradar. Encounter a Pokemon in a shaking patch. If it's not the Pokemon you want, reset the Radar by walking 50 steps and trying again. Do this until you get the Pokemon you want.

3. You must defeat or catch the Pokemon. After the battle ends, the grass patches will automatically shake. This is where it gets tricky - you must pay VERY close attention to the grass patches - where they are, how fast they're shaking, how loud they are, and whether or not they are next to other grass patches.

There are four types of shaking patches:

SLOW: Most of the time has NO Pokemon in it, and will break your chain. If it does have a Pokemon, it is almost always not the one you are chaining and will break your chain
NORMAL: From what I can tell, has about a 50/50 chance of having the Pokemon you are chaining vs a different Pokemon. Not safe to step in.
FAST AND LOUD: Almost always has the Pokemon you are chaining
SHINY: Hooray! You found a shiny patch! Will always have a shiny Pokemon in it!

However, fast and loud grass patches are not always safe to step in. Here is how you tell which patches to step in and which ones to avoid:

SAFE GRASS PATCHES:

1. Must be shaking fast and loud
2. Must be at least 4 steps from you
3. Must NOT be on the edge of the field
4. Must be by themselves (i.e., not next to any other shaking grass patches or you)

Shiny grass patches are also always safe

UNSAFE GRASS PATCHES

1. Anything that shakes slow or normal
2. ANY grass patch, even fast and loud ones, on the edge of a field
3. ANY grass patch, even fast and loud ones, that are next to another shaking grass patch
4. ANY grass patch that is next to you

If there aren't any grass patches that match the criteria I listed for safe ones, then walk 50 steps (without entering any shaking grass patches, obviously) and reset the Radar to make different patches shake. This will not break your chain.

THINGS THAT WILL BREAK YOUR CHAIN:

1. Using the roller skates
2. Entering a grass patch with a Pokemon different than the one you are chaining
3. Entering a grass patch with no Pokemon (these grass patches will always be slow-shaking)
4. Leaving the PokeRadar's range
5. Having an Egg in your party that hatches while you are chaining

THINGS THAT WILL NOT BREAK YOUR CHAIN:

1. Accidentally stepping in a slow/normal grass patch that miraculously has the Pokemon you are chaining. Lucky you!
2. Using the menus to switch Pokemon, use items, etc.
3. Encountering one of the legendary birds
4. Walking 50 steps and resetting the Radar

You will know if your chain is broken if the Pokeradar music stops and goes back to the normal Route music.

----

Lastly, sometimes, the Pokeradar music will change into something more upbeat. No one has any proof of what this does yet, but the general consensus on the Internet that I can find is that while the upbeat music is playing, you have a higher chance of encountering shiny patches. When the upbeat music starts, DON'T WALK INTO ANY SHAKING PATCHES. Keep walking 50 steps and resetting the Radar to see if you get any shiny patches. You can resume encountering and building your chain once the music stops.

Once you hit a chain of 40, stop encountering in the shaking grass patches. You can't get your shiny chance any higher after 40, so encountering will just risk breaking your chain. Once you hit a chain of 40, just keep walking 50 steps and resetting the Radar until you find a shiny patch. The chance of finding a shiny patch at a chain of 40 in D/P/Pt was 1/200. We don't know what it is in XY, but I'd put money on it being 1/100. Anyway, the chance of finding a shiny patch is still small - either .5% or 1% - but that's a lot higher than .0001%, and with a lot of Repels and patience, you can still find a shiny patch fairly easily. It's the same as encountering for a Pokemon with an encounter rate of 1%, like that Dratini you're looking for.

------

So onto the Dratini...I just caught one yesterday and basically, it just takes a lot of patience. It makes sense to chain fish while you're doing it, though! Bulbapedia says that Dratini are "very rare", which either means an encounter rate of 5% or 1%. Just keep it up and eventually you'll find one. It took me a while, too.

got another shuppet, this time it's a male. he has insomnia and the synchonizer worked so he has a brave nature. apparently he also has 31 IV in attack and sp. attack so i might actually do something with him. C: no idea what to hunt for next, kind of deciding between going into a fire safari with ninetales/ponyta or MMing hoppip or mienfoo. i don't know D:

Yesterday, after reading about the new shiny odds in XY, I felt a lot more eager to go back to shiny hunting. I had run into 1200 Pokémon in hordes on Route 15 previously, aiming for Murkrow and as it doesn't get much better than a bright pink crow I decided to go back there. I spent most of my evening and a good chunk of today (my day off) Sweet Scenting there with the result that I'm now up to 6200 total Pokémon encounters. I've been catching up on 3 weeks worth of internet discussion while hunting so I'm going to pretend I've actually been productive. :p I'll get to 7000 later tonight and then I'll slow it down from tomorrow. Bit annoyed that I've gone over the odds because my Durant MM was over double the odds before I quit, but eh. Will keep trucking later on.

I am of course still expecting to get a shiny Foongus.

I've got a tentative list of shinies I'd like to get in this game
- Murkrow
- Noctowl
- Pidgeot
- Skiddo/Gogoat
- Horsea

I want to only spend my time hunting shinies that I'll actually use so I'm being a lot more selective than I previously was. No more REing in random routes just for the hell of it. I have a FS with Pidgey/Hoohoot which I'll probably go camp out in after my horde shiny shines.

Congrats on new shinies and good luck on the hunts. :)

Why? Does it help having a Cute Charm lead when shiny hunting?

No, but if you have a male cute charm as lead you will encounter female pokémon more often.

I caught another 2 Shiny Basculin.... *sigh* I have to admit that it's pretty, but I really want a Dratini... D8

And Congrats you guys! You really seem to be lucky! I really want a shiny Oddish! Hahah! It would be such a cute Bellossom! <3

Well, I can't say I was expecting that. I was looking for a Scraggy to complete the Central Kalos Dex, got into a horde battle, and caught that little fella.

Guy a lot of shinies these past few days. I first got a shiny Tyrunt via MM. Then I got a shiny Torchic via MM. My lastest shiny was a shiny Frogadier. With 4 encounters in the FS, it showed up.

I tried chain fishing again the last hour or so. Got a shiny horsea after a chain of 70 and a shiny skrelp at 119~

Just a general question but why don't people like Female shines?

Just a general question but why don't people like Female shines?

It's not that people don't like female shinies it's tha people want to control the gender of their shinies like today I got a female shiny mawile and I'm so thankful for it being female and three weeks ago I got a male shiny electabuzz

MDS777

The name's Riley
I'm at about 330 eggs for Espurr. Nothing as of right now. I've been trying to get a Japanese Ditto with near flawless IVs but most of them have been really terrible. I dislike the GTS :/

Anyways, congrats on everyone's recent shinies, and good luck to everyone hunting. :3
