pain in the ***
Another question I would like to ask is if anybody here has a shiny Vespiquen?

I have a shiny vespiquen in Y, caught as a combee from the friend safari following a cute charm hunt. In earlier gens they're a pain in the butt to get because of the gender ratios.

Dialga continues to be stubborn at 15,800 SRs.

Congratulations to everyone with new shinies.

I finally caught the next pokemon in my SS badge quest. It is a shiny Gastly. I have also managed to catch the following shinies since the last time I posted: Noibat, Dugtrio, 3 Lotad, Maractus, 2 Cacturne & Nuzleaf

Good luck to everyone on their current and future hunts.

Late last night i managed to hatch my CH target, which was Finneon. Egg 140 of 300 hatched with a female, timid nature, and 31 in everything but speed....unfortunately. Still, im glad i completed my hunt and it hatched with the ability i wanted so i get to save an ability capsule. Now gonna move onto a lightning rod target, not sue who yet, still want to do a little more reasearch.

Good luck on all hunts and congratz on all recent shinies!

Well, I had a more eventful week. It didn't start off too well, just found a shiny linoone in AlphaSapphire by RE while searching outside Fortree City.

Then, though, things got better.

After several months of hunting in HeartGold for spinarak, mostly hunting at night but also at times during the day, I finally got a pokemon I've been wanting shiny for a very long time... pidgey. LOL Not that I'll quit hunting during the day, as I also want growlithe, also found in that area, for my shiny Rocketdex, but I do want that shiny spinarak. I'm glad to finally have a pidgey after all this time, though, and removed it from my wanted list in my sig.

And speaking of my shiny Rocketdex hunt, I finally added to it the same day by finding a shiny female frillish in one (!) DexNav encounter outside Dewford.

Signature has been updated with my most current hunts.

Oooooh that's some tough luck! At least you got a Remoraid, though!

I've decided to add my first real legendary Pokemon hunt to my list - I was going to go after Moltres on all three of my FR/LG carts, but as it turned out I'd already captured one of them on my LG so in the end I decided to try lucky dip and SR for all three of them at the same time! I'd be happy with any one of them, but in an ideal world, I would like Articuno the most!

Congrats to Sutittaja on Audino, Ginji on Charmander, Samayouru on Pidgey, Lucy Suzunia on Tyrunt, Phillies on Gastly, tonyg44x on Finneon, wobbanut on Linoone and Pidgey, and everyone else on your shinies!

I feel like I heard it mentioned that all transferred over Vulpix/Sandshrew would be normal. This is just a different form found in a different region, so if you're trainer ID says Kanto/Hoenn/etc. you have to find your ice Vulpix in Sun and Moon.

That’s unfortunate :[ But it makes sense.

Another 7,004 REs wasted for a 3rd Shiny Bibarel on my Platinum…

[IMG200]http://i.imgur.com/mXyeWJ8.jpg[/IMG200]

Found it on the 4th RE of the day yesterday. This one is female, Calm, Simple ability, and the IVs: 11 – 24 – 21 – 18 – 0 – 31. Bibarel is only supposed to be 30% here, yet 3 of my 4 shinies from this route have been Bibarel -_- So that’s…Really, really annoying. And I’ve now had 22,403 REs that all went towards these duplicate Bibarel :] :] :] This 20% Ralts is really starting to look a lot like that 20% Growlithe…

Anyways, there’s not really any other way for me to get this Ralts, so I guess I’ll just keep working on finding these Bibarel >.<

Good luck, everyone (especially Cyberra, Crimson Penguin, CharlieDoryRose, umbreonfan3636, SheroGH, G-Money, Martinzqx, tui, ChaoticInverse, markasdarkas, RaichuArcanine, pokemaster13, Tina, Shy, Ruru_star, skilax1234, Pluski, ElectricBassClef, and Nakashima)!

I erased a couple of my save files this year, giving up on old quests. It's unfortunate, but I reached the point where I couldn't stand resetting any longer, so I had to break up the monotony. The last time I got a full-odds legendary was last September, and it wasn't the one I was actually gunning for (Giratina). I got a flurry of full-odds shinies in between reset attempts, which only made me feel worse for not sticking with it.

This year is no different. I replayed Platinum (still no luck with Giratina), SoulSilver, and HeartGold (currently SRing for starters). SRing for starters on HG/SS is a lot harder than I expected - I find myself hitting the button one too many times and picking a starter by accident. I'm not sure how much longer I can take it.

I did get another barrage of shinies - more than I've ever seen on a single save file, just from leveling pokes in Mt. Silver. I want an Onix/Steelix, but what I actually got were Dodrio, Ponyta, and Golbat (within a span of 2 days earlier this year), and just yesterday, this guy:

[img200]http://i.imgur.com/lbpu3k2.jpg[/img200]

Right after doing a Magnet Pull run on Cliff Cave. At this rate, I will be able to field my own post-game team. o_O So I sympathize with the rest of you who got every shiny from a route but the one you wanted.

I don't have the stones to SR something non-stop, so I'll probably be bouncing around and getting more unwanted surprises. I played Voltorb Flip last night, of all things.

I am starting to get interested in potential shiny forms for Sun/Moon. I figured they would keep the same shiny sparkles/noise from X/Y, but after seeing all the new changes, it's possible they might be revamped too. I'm also thinking of porting or grabbing some cheap shinies that will evolve into new Alolan forms (Pikachu, Exeggcute, etc.) just for trade bait... but I have no idea what I would trade for.

Today, I was playing OR & AS, training my upcoming teams. I figured that using Sweet Scent to trigger hordes could be a useful way for quick training since at least one of the Pokemon I was training on each game had a spread move to take out the hordes quickly. I tried this method and it worked pretty well, so I kept using it. Eventually, as the training continued, I got to Route 120 on Alpha Sapphire. Continued with generating hordes, and one of them ended up containing something I wasn't really prepared for.

This is my second random shiny of the year, and my second shiny on Alpha Sapphire. Last time, I didn't have the Shiny Charm, but I have completed the Pokedex since then, so I have it now. Finding this is also a little funny since I found the shiny evolved form of this Pokemon last year. There are some other similarities between those situations, but I'm not going to get into any details for them.

Congrats to everyone on your recent shinies, and good luck to all of you on your hunts.

Congrats to everyone on their recent shinies, and thanks to Cpchris for the luck!

So I'm actually posting this about a week late (been distracted by work and other non-Pokemon-related happenings recently), but I reached another big milestone in my shiny hunting career last weekend. After 498 days, 245 in-game hours, and over 47,000 total encounters, my Omega Ruby badge quest has been completed with a shiny Chinchou! It came after just 774 REs on Route 126, 10 days since my shiny Shuppet on the same file. It's a female with the *incredibly original* nickname Glow, and she has a Timid nature with the Volt Absorb ability (finally lucked out on the nature/ability side of things for once!). She's so cute ^_^ Also, I think it counts as a fish, so Community Hunt Complete for once!

After catching Chinchou, I went straight off to defeat Wallace and the E4, and although it proved to be a very tough challenge with a very underleveled team, I managed to prevail over Steven and become the Hoenn League Champion with my team of shinies. Here's the complete recap:

1. Treecko - 1294 SRs - 5/19/15
2. Shroomish - 519 REs - 5/29/15
3. Aron - 6662 REs - 8/16/15
4. Swablu - 15943 REs - 12/26/15
5. Cacnea - 10964 REs - 5/8/16
6. Absol - 10261 REs - 7/23/16
7. Shuppet - 541 REs - 7/27/16
8. Chinchou - 774 REs - 8/6/16

Overall, even though I had some very long hunts on this BQ, it's definitely been one of my favorites that I've done. I got several longtime targets of mine, and all but one Pokemon was from Gen 3, my favorite generation. I'm a little sad now that it's over, but I'm currently thinking up some plans for the next project. And in other news, Chimchar is at 1650 SRs, Route 48 is at 3200 REs... and Volcarona is at a ridiculous 17,800 SRs. Shine plz? : (

Good luck to all of you on your hunts!

I finally cleaned out my boxes in OR, so time to hatch another 635 eggs :p Right now my target in OR is Smoochum. In X I'm still in Frost Cavern horde hunting for Cubchoo or Smoochum and in SS I've moved on to Icy Path in hopes of getting a shiny Swinub or Jynx before taking on the dragon gym. It was nice to finally make some progress again after finding that shiny Flaaffy the other day.
Speaking of BQs, I curious as to what everyone does for the E4/Champion? Do you just get one shiny before then, none because it's not a gym per se or do you get a shiny for each trainer you face in there? I think I'm going to go for one shiny and then take them all on.

I'd go for just one shiny considering that the E4 does have a leader of the group, so that technically makes them a gym leader (just the gym leader to end all leaders in that particular region).

I'm starting to feel bad about complaining about my luck last week. I've been hunting in Virbank Complex for a mere two days and I ended up coming across a shiny Patrat!

Not what I wanted, so I'm going to keep hunting here until I get one of my targets. I'm still happy, though, as it turns out I enjoy the chase far more than the kill now that I have a more mature attitude to hunting! Good luck on your hunts, everyone!

The rules say that you are allowed to post once a day or once a page, and since my last post was yesterday, I hope it is okay for me to post again.

Congrats to Sutittaja, Erron Black, Crimson Penguin and Samayouru on your new shinies.

As for me... the training on OR/AS continued, I eventually found myself on Route 130 on Alpha Sapphire. There, I decided to use the DexNav to summon a certain Pokemon to see if it would give a lot of Exp. But upon seeing it on the screen, it was more than I had expected.

After the shiny I found yesterday, I didn't expect to find another one again so soon. But I guess I should have kind of expected this to happen since when I find one random shiny, I usually find another one shortly afterwards. They tend to come in pairs.

I don't know how the DexNav works when it comes to getting shinies, but my Search Level for this Pokemon was at 21 before I ran into this one. It was not a "chain" of any sort as it was the very first one I ran into on my current session of the game. I also don't know how/if the Shiny Charm affects the DexNav in some way. Either way, this is my third random shiny on Alpha Sapphire, and my third shiny of the year. It isn't the most exciting since I have met two shiny Tentacool previously, one on FireRed and one on LeafGreen. But it doesn't matter, I'm still happy about it.

A continued good luck to all of you on your hunts.

Eh, ragazzo!
I have a shiny vespiquen in Y, caught as a combee from the friend safari following a cute charm hunt. In earlier gens they're a pain in the butt to get because of the gender ratios.

Are you talking about relying on the 8192 ratio* since breeding negates Cute Charm, and swarming is impossible do to the honey trees?

The Friend Safari/Cute Charm combo would work pretty well there.

*This should be the name of the old probability. I do not want to write out the whole ratio. We need a hip and trendy term. We could say the 13 heads only coin flip, lol!

I can't MM in Gen IV, so yes, full 1/8192 odds at honey trees. 20% chance to find a combee, then that miniscule chance of it being female and the even more miniscule chance of it being female and shiny. Gen IV shiny vespiquen made it into TheSupremeRK9's list of the "10 hardest pokemon to shiny hunt" for a reason (I believe it's #2 on the list, surpassed only by shiny manaphy). He calculated that shiny female combee is a good 8x harder to get than any other shiny, giving it odds more like 1/60,000. At least in Gen V you can cute charm hunt it normally, even at full odds.

Anyway, dialga continues to be a pain. I'm at 17,100 SRs and approaching my totals for regirock (17,541 SRs) and raikou (17,821 SRs).

It took me a while but I finally get why Cyberra's shiny geodude award is such a big deal :p It might not be the hardest to find, like Vespiquen, but it must be the hardest to catch. If it's not using Self-Destruct or Explosion, it has other ways of making itself faint. :I

Shiny horde geodudes and gravelers are a shiny hunter's worst nightmare. They're usually too low-level to have explosion or self-destruct, but they can and do Magnitude each other into oblivion XP So yeah, finding one and actually catching it is a really big deal

Still at 4K RE in Sevault Canyon, Onix must shine soon or late.

Also one question:

Can you RA from Legendaries in Emerald?,I plan on buying emerald but I heard that the broken RNG there makes impossible to SR, and I don't know anything about how it really works (like how does one gets a shiny starter, what difference would it make if I replace the battery, etc).

Changing the battery in Emerald wouldn't make any difference. The RNG was broken from the get-go. It is possible to get a shiny starter, but it requires restarting with a new save file about every 50 SRs until you find one with an early enough shiny frame (finding a shiny starter or the dreaded Uncatchable Pooch/Zigzagoon). RA-ing can be done, like for a shiny rayquaza, but the kink is that once you start the hunt, you cannot turn the game off until your target shines, because when turned back on the RNG always starts from the same place and you'll have to start over from zero. At least that's my understanding of it.

Also can someone please clarify the "uncatchable pooch/zigzagoon" for me? I never understood why it's called uncatchable.

The Uncatchable Pooch/Zigzagoon (or starly in Diamond/Pearl) is that first battle after you choose your starter. You've only just picked a starter, so you have no pokeballs. There's a shiny sitting right in front of you, but you have no pokeballs and thus have no hope of ever catching it. Thus, the Uncatchable. No shiny hunter ever wants to see it.

That first pooch in ORAS has been shiny locked, so GF has finally wised up about it.

I actually have managed to catch a shiny horde geodude without any prep whatsoever. It was sheer luck the rest didn't kill it. I was EV training in Victory Road in Y. It's bloody hard to do, though

I'm pretty sure I went over the odds today with a total of 430 Gastly eggs. I hope it shines soon because there's so much I want to do, including breeding awesome bank ball pokemon I got in recent trades and prepping a female 5iv Litwick for my next shiny hunt. I'm thinking of breeding it into a Repeat Ball for the matching colors (on orange Chandelure), but I'm not sure I like the exit animation all that much.
As for Gastly, I'm going to collect some 60-100 more eggs later and hatch them tomorrow.
EDIT: Oh whoops, all this time I've been thinking MM+SC odds were 1/412 and I checked the first post and it's 1/512. It's been a while for me lol.

Ah, see, I don't have X or Y (I tried ordering it online a few days ago but that's another story) so it didn't hit me until I saw razor fire's last post about the graveler horde. Oh yeah, now I remember how some people would skill swap levitate onto the shiny geodude, haha. Most of the time I'm sure people wouldn't be THAT prepared, though, unless it's your specific target and not a RE.
Also can someone please clarify the "uncatchable pooch/zigzagoon" for me? I never understood why it's called uncatchable.

Oh, it's literally uncatchable. Durr hurr, I'm smart. Thanks for explaining it to me!

Just hatched another 88 eggs, still no shiny. NOW I'm over the odds!

Edit: Jeez Dangertrout, congrats on all those shinies so close together! Send some of that luck my way, would ya? XD I hatched my 622nd egg last night, still no shiny, but I have so many 5IV Gastlys that I've started giving them out to people. I'm like the crazy Gastly lady over here. Anybody want one? ;P
