Are you talking about relying on the 8192 ratio* since breeding negates Cute Charm, and swarming is impossible do to the honey trees?
The Friend Safari/Cute Charm combo would work pretty well there.
*This should be the name of the old probability. I do not want to write out the whole ratio. We need a hip and trendy term. We could say the 13 heads only coin flip, lol!
I can't MM in Gen IV, so yes, full 1/8192 odds at honey trees. 20% chance to find a combee, then that miniscule chance of it being female and the even more miniscule chance of it being female
and shiny. Gen IV shiny vespiquen made it into TheSupremeRK9's list of the "10 hardest pokemon to shiny hunt" for a reason (I believe it's #2 on the list, surpassed only by shiny manaphy). He calculated that shiny female combee is a good 8x harder to get than any other shiny, giving it odds more like 1/60,000. At least in Gen V you can cute charm hunt it normally, even at full odds.
Anyway, dialga continues to be a pain. I'm at
17,100 SRs and approaching my totals for regirock (17,541 SRs) and raikou (17,821 SRs).
It took me a while but I finally get why Cyberra's shiny geodude award is such a big deal
It might not be the hardest to find, like Vespiquen, but it must be the hardest to catch. If it's not using Self-Destruct or Explosion, it has other ways of making itself faint. :I
Shiny horde geodudes and gravelers are a shiny hunter's worst nightmare. They're usually too low-level to have explosion or self-destruct, but they can and do Magnitude each other into oblivion XP So yeah, finding one and actually catching it is a really big deal
Still at 4K RE in Sevault Canyon, Onix must shine soon or late.
Also one question:
Can you RA from Legendaries in Emerald?,I plan on buying emerald but I heard that the broken RNG there makes impossible to SR, and I don't know anything about how it really works (like how does one gets a shiny starter, what difference would it make if I replace the battery, etc).
Changing the battery in Emerald wouldn't make any difference. The RNG was broken from the get-go. It is possible to get a shiny starter, but it requires restarting with a new save file about every 50 SRs until you find one with an early enough shiny frame (finding a shiny starter or the dreaded Uncatchable Pooch/Zigzagoon). RA-ing can be done, like for a shiny rayquaza, but the kink is that once you start the hunt, you
cannot turn the game off until your target shines, because when turned back on the RNG always starts from the same place and you'll have to start over from zero. At least that's my understanding of it.
Also can someone please clarify the "uncatchable pooch/zigzagoon" for me? I never understood why it's called uncatchable.
The Uncatchable Pooch/Zigzagoon (or starly in Diamond/Pearl) is that first battle after you choose your starter. You've only just picked a starter, so you have no pokeballs. There's a shiny sitting right in front of you, but you have no pokeballs and thus have no hope of ever catching it. Thus, the Uncatchable. No shiny hunter ever wants to see it.
That first pooch in ORAS has been shiny locked, so GF has finally wised up about it.
I actually have managed to catch a shiny horde geodude without any prep whatsoever. It was sheer luck the rest didn't kill it. I was EV training in Victory Road in Y. It's bloody hard to do, though
