Dissapointing really. Although it looks kind of cool, it's nothing that I'm going to bother buying.. Not enough of a redesign to make it worth it, it's only.. thinner. At least it won't be as heavy to hold.

But for those who haven't already boought a DS yet. Here's your reason to get one. :p

Fox

Where's my fanfare?
Looks to me that they're already taking Revolution controller design concepts and putting them into use. I think I might get a second DS when this comes out. Has a nice Mac look to it, and I like how they repositioned the Select and Start buttons. The Mic being placed between the screens though, is something I might not like though.

Ah, man that looks cool. They are definently inspired by the Revolution like Fox said. I just got a DS though. I would definiently get it if I didnt already have one.

Hmm this one looks pretty wierd to me. Atleast the start and selects buttons are in the right place for me now. Not sure why but it just doesn't seem right for me.

Eh. I don't really like it. :s I'm pretty much fine with my DS.

Apparently the Japanese retail price is about $145. o_O

Heh I knew this would happen, buy a DS and just over a month later a new design appears.
I like it though, the DS itself is fine, but I wouldn't mind one of them when the time is right.

I think the DS lite looks really nice. Although I just bought a DS in December, I won't be getting it. It depends when the next Pokemon game comes out and how good my DS is in shape...

Advanced Missingno.
Not too crazy about the name "Lite", maybe "Light" or even "SP" :D would have worked, but "Lite", could have been better, what do you guys think?

Also, I was waiting for the new design to get a new DS, could I just trade my old one and get the new Lite for like what, $30 or something?

Another thing, I hope the new Lite will have ALL of the features like the old one, such as GBA compatibility, but that's confirmed already right, and the same menu features, and maybe a small menu redisign would be interesting, and such!

I like it. I doubt I'll get it until later though. Also the word lite makes it sound more mature IMO.

I was expecting a slightly better design but still, it's cool. I probably wont get one but I like how it's thinner. Also, the colours MUCH better, like the iPod style look.

Nintendo DS Lite
Release Date: 2006-03-02
Price: 16800 Yen
Feature: 4 adjustable levels of brightness (ala PSP), thus the name "Lite"
Old Size: 149 x 85 x 29 = 275g
New Size: 133 x 74 x 22 = 218g
For those that don't read japanese.
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/26/nintendo-announces-ds-lite My DS is over a year old; got it on the first day. Hm, at least people will now stop saying the PSP is sexier then the DS. XD

Well, this may be rather minor but it's been confirmed that the DSlite will be availible outside Japan after Spring. Also, it's going to be released in 3 colours in total, white and two unconfirmed colours. And the old DS will still be manufatcured as the Lite will be slightly more expensive.

Minor, I know but still news.

Look at the size of the PSP and the DS Lite side by side:
Sony's not happy....

---DS Lite

The modified dual screen handheld has been tweaked into a smaller chassis. The new unit measures up to 133 mm wide by 73.9 mm tall by 21.5 thick. (that's compared to 148.7 x 84.7 x 28.99 mm in the original.) DS Lite weighs 218g, compared to the 275 g of the original.

---PSP

The unit measures 170 mm (6.7 in) in length, 74 mm (2.9 in) in width, and 23 mm (0.9 in) in depth, and weighs 280g / .62 lbs (including battery) . The most noticeable element of the PSP is its 110 mm/4.3" (diagonal) 16:9 ratio TFT LCD screen sporting a 480 x 272 pixel resolution capable of 16.77 million colours.

I really do not see the point. I mean, at least when the SP was released, it had 3 key featyres addes which made me actually want to buy it, namly flip screen to stop scratches, backlight so I can play in the dark and rechargable bateries so that I do not have to keep buying new ones every fourghtnight (and duracel las longer, but are a lot more expensive)

This, from what I have read, offers nothing new exept it is smaller. And it is more expensive then the original. I mean, why? It is not anything new, technology wise. Adjustable brightness is not anything special.

Well that is my opinion, and incase you have not gathered I will not be getting one. IMO, this is just as pointless as a GBA micro.

Well, many (joystiq reviewers) found the DS' size to be a weakness. Others found the not-as-pretty-as-the-PSP-screen to be a weakness as well. And some even thought that the start, select, and color of the system to be HUGE weaknesses as well. Nintendo's at least doing something instead of nothing.
