That's not socialism; that's totalitarianism.
Socialism is the political philosophy of making major industries and utilities public rather than private, and yes, many Democrats are on board with socialism. President Barack Obama ran his entire presidency on socialism, which is what led to the Affordable Healthcare Act.
The issue is when a single entity or political party controls a socialist nation, such as with China, Cuba and Vietnam. This prevents the public from having a say in how public institutions are ran, ironically enough.

In other news, I really hope people are aware that Trump's arrest, while obviously warranted, comes with a lot of repercussions for the country. His supporters will react, and at this point he has claimed a great deal of loyalty. I think all the public celebrations and trash talking are doing more harm than good, and if Trump is in fact convicted and incarcerated, violence and chaos are likely to ensue. I really hope folks chill out right now.

So, the age of consent has finally been raised in Japan. While I still feel 16 is too low, it's at least a step in the right direction.
What bothers me is that it dozens of acquitted sexual assaults on children for this law to change. This is especially frustrating since a r*pist can actually sue their victim for defamation of character if they go public, as defamation laws in Japan do not exclude crimes in the constitution of defamation. This is what led to many of the acquittals.
I'm glad things are finally changing, but it took far too long. More needs to be done before these young girls' safety can be assured.

It's just you, the last writers strikes ended about 15 years ago, before that it was 20 years, then 7, then 8, then 13.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is obviously going to be safe as that show basically writes its own drama and itself. Sports will never be able to be stopped as long as the players are paid big money and don’t go on strike themselves with 2020 being an exception because of the pandemic. Too bad it means Fox News is unaffected as I feel annoyed watching that channel but not for the reason you’d think and I sort of wish that someone would pull the plug from it.

I remember the 2007-2008 strike because it's the reason Pushing Up Daisies got cut short and I'm still mad about that.

Don’t know if anybody lives in Baltimore, but the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after a container ship hit one of its support columns.
Just texted my support to a paramedic working in the area, and he has asked me to pass on the following message to those living close by.
Please ask any loved ones to avoid tying up the dispatch lines and not call 911 unless it’s a real medical emergency. EMTs, firefighters, and other services are stretched to capacity and are literally deploying buses. The county/city and mutual county apparatus are currently all being deployed to the scene for mass-casualty rescues but there are still calls flooding in for chronic back pain, stubbed toes, stomach aches, fevers, headaches, neck pain, and other non life threatening emergencies.
May we show our support to the heroes who are working to save lives there… emergency and hospital services have been our strongest heroes especially since COVID came to the world’s doorstep.
