I'd say yes if for no other reason than it is hard to get someone new into One Piece due to its sheer size. I'll have an easier time convincing my friends to start from the beginning if it is a new production instead of a 1000+ episode monster.Did OP need a remake though? Those old episodes hold up pretty well. I feel like it's too early for this. If we're getting one I would have preferred UFOTABLE tbh
What??? That's a dumb excuse to not watch something. They can always start from episode 1 like we did and consume at a rate they find comfortable. A remake isn't going to omit content and if it did then that would be a damn shame because One Piece is one of those masterpieces where even the fillers are worth watching.I'd say yes if for no other reason than it is hard to get someone new into One Piece due to its sheer size. I don't disagree but at almost 1100 episodes now you would have to watch 3 episodes a day to be done in a years' time during which time they are continuously adding new episodes. Doesn't help that one of them tried starting from the beginning and quit because he thought the animation sucked. He was shocked when I told him that those episodes were over 20 years old. What??? And what's wrong with watching 3 episodes a day for a year? I swear kids today lack the virtue of patience.....I don't disagree but at almost 1100 episodes now you would have to watch 3 episodes a day to be done in a years' time during which time they are continuously adding new episodes. I wouldn't say it's just a matter of patience. Life is short, people are busy, and a series that big is a huge commitment even if you break it down like that. Not to mention the pacing in the Toei anime just gets terribly slow as the series goes on, imo.And what's wrong with watching 3 episodes a day for a year? I watched OP at a rate of 1 ep/day. It took me 2 years to catch up. I don't regret it.I wouldn't say it's just a matter of patience. I still recommend the manga above all else to newcomers, but it's nice that we're getting what will probably be a well paced and updated adaptation.
