INTRODUCTION

Welcome to this FAQ. This is my second FAQ (the other is for Pokémon Channel) for the Pokémon games. I started this a short while ago by myself, and then had unrivaled support from Powerful_Blaziken88.

HISTORY

This is the second version of the Pokémon Emerald Apprentice FAQ. The first version was written by me in early 2005, and was updated to Version 1.5 (at least in my mind) after all of Powerful_Blaziken88's help. The previous version was closed in November of 2005, and I requested it be deleted in January of 2006 to make way for my latest version. This version was released in late January 2006. The next version is due when Diamond & Pearl information arises.

BASICS
======
Q: What is Pokémon Emerald?
A: The third game in the Hoenn Pokémon series for the Gameboy Advance.
Q: Will it work on my DS?
A: Yes, it works on GBA, GBASP, GBM & Nintendo DS.

BATTLE FRONTIER
===============
Q: So, I just beat the Elite Four & went to the Battle Frontier. Now what?
A: Well, there's a lot to do at the Frontier, but first of all visit the Battle Tower. Check your Frontier Pass if you're really lost.
Q: Okay, I've walked into the Battle Tower. Now I battle?
A: Wellll...you could. Or you could talk to the person standing on the left hand side near the board.
Q: Why, who is s/he?
A: Why your apprentice. Your 1st one anyway.

APPRENTICE
===========
Q: My apprentice asked if I accept him/her as my apprentice. Should I?
A: I usually do. You cannot refuse them anyway.
Q: Okay, I've found one I like. They asked me Open Lvl or Lvl 50?
A: I will normally say Open Lvl, as that's what I go in for and many others I know, but will from time to time send one on Lvl 50. So it's up to you.
Q: My apprentice is wierd...
A: They're mostly wierd. I've had a sick Black Belt, a freak of a Gentleman & a hyperactive Triathlete before.
Q: How often does my apprentice ask me questions?
A: Your apprentice will re-appear at 00.00 (12am) everyday according to your game clock.
Q: Are my apprentice's Pokémon limited in any way?
A: Yes. They cannot have legendaries, but they can have non-Hoenn Pokémon.
Q: Are my apprentice's Pokémons moves limited?
A: Yes, they can only learn TM/HM moves, moves normally learned by that Pokémon in Emerald (up to level 60) and Egg moves. No Move Tutor moves.
Q: Can I have the same apprentice twice?
A: Yes you can.
Q: Will my new apprentice, Triathlete Donte, replace the old Triathlete Donte when his training is complete?
A: Yes, the new version of the trainer will have a different Battle Tower position to the old one. You can still encounter the old version of the trainer in the Battle Salon and Battle Tower.
Q: Do I get to battle my apprentice?
A: Yes. In the Battle Tower Single, they may battle you.
Q: Can I team up with my apprentices?
A: You may team up with past apprentices via the Battle Salon.
Q: Should I save before I talk to my apprentice?
A: As a general rule, yes.

QUESTIONS

These are the questions that I've had apprentices ask me, and I have provided my own answer to the question, and some information on how to decide.
Q: Open Level or Level 50?
A: See Above.
Advice: See Above
Q: A choice between Pokémon A & Pokémon B?
A: Pokémon C...hehe.
Advice: You will be asked this question three times. You will have a choice between two Pokémon each time. I would advise that you try not to give your apprentice more than one Pokémon of the same type.
Q: A choice of Move A or Move B?
A: Move AB...Okay I'll stop.
Advice: Choose a good move. Like it's your own Pokémon. NEVER SAY HIDDEN POWER. I say that because you don't know what type etc. it will be. (The only exception is Unown, and I've never seen anyone use one.)
Q: Which Pokémon first?
A: The first one.
Advice: Completley up to you. If you want to suprise the battler, send out the most unexpected one first.
Q: What item to give to Pokémon A?
A: The Eon Ticket...okay. I lied.
Advice: Choose a good item. Hopefully you have a good item on you. If not, maybe you saved earlier and can reset and get a nice item. Use berries, 10% items and items such as Focus Band. You will be asked this question three times
Q: What to say when I win?
A: GWHAHAHAHA! HERE'S WHERE I HAVE FUN!
Advice: Well, I try and make my sayings fit the trainer, or make them sound sick and wrong. It's once again, your choice.

BATTLE SALON
============
Q: How do I get there?
A: Choose the Multi Battle section at the Battle Frontier.
Q: What is it?
A: A place where trainers and your apprentices gather to be paired with you.
Q: Where is my apprentice?
A: Bottom right corner. There will be one apprentice whether it is your apprentice or someone elses.
Q: Someone elses?
A: See Mixing Records.
Q: They didn't recognize me!
A: Not a question. They say I am '[Trainer Name]'s [Number] apprentice' so that the text need not be changed when the apprentice is copied onto another game via Record Mixing. Lazy GAME FREAK...
Q: This apprentice has different Pokémon now. Why?
A: Your apprentice has three Pokémon but will only use two of them at a time. Ergo, you may not recognize one. Or it may be a second or further version of the apprentice in question.
Q: I can't beat my apprentice.
A: Stop being a poor trainer then. Train yourself better. And don't, please, make your apprentices poor just so you can beat them. Where's the fun in that?

MIXING RECORDS

Q: How do I mix records?
A: Go to the Wireless Link room and choose 'Record Corner'.
Q: After I've mixed records, what happens?
A: Concerning the Battle Frontier the following happens:
- The trainer's record of wins is transferred to the Ranking Hall.
- Your apprentices are 'copied' over to the other trainer's game.
- You will appear in the other trainer's Battle Salon, and they will appear in yours.
- The other trainers apprentices will appear in Single Battle (Battle Tower).

DIAMOND & PEARL APPRENTICES
===========================
Q: Will they be in Diamond & Pearl?
A: We haven't even seen screenshots yet (when this was last updated) so I have no idea. Well, I have an idea of an improved apprentice system.
Q: Which is?
A: Hopefully an improved apprentice system will be included where you can advise your apprentice on which Pokémon to catch via your Pokédex, and choose from a list of moves and items, instead of a choice between two and...well I won't say anymore. I have lots of ideas festering away.

So do not moan about how it isn't official or anything, just ask questions about the Apprentice or keep us updated on what Apprentices you have etc.
