• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

In my Emerald, everything worked fine at first, saving, loading, everything. I made it to Dewford town, then thought it would be fun to connect with XD for the battle mode. I tried connecting, and it said the game was not saved right and it was deleted. Sure enough, when I unplugged it and turned it back on, my save file was gone. Now, every time I turn off the game, my save game is gone. As a test, I tried saving in the Moving Truck, I turned it off, turned it on, and I could load the file. Then I went in the house, set the clock, and saved. When I turned it on, my save file was gone again.

Is this a problem with my battery? Is there a way to fix it? Can I replace the battery? Is there anyway to play without setting the clock first?

And, if I fix the game, and try to connect to XD again, will it happen again?

Yes, it sounds like a battery. Yes you can replace it. Connecting with XD was just a coincidence.

Why is Celebi programmed into the 3rd gen US games if you can't even get it? You can get it in Japan with the Japanese bonus disk, but there is no way to get it into the US games since the consoles are region-locked. But seriously? Programming a Pokemon takes a long time to do, and in the that they programmed a useless Pokemon, they could have made a new area/route for the games.

Because you can trade with Japanese people O_O

Every game has every POkemon regardless of the region. Whether you can get them or not is completely different. It would be a lot harder to make separate games for each region than to make one.

Yeah, but as I said, everything worked fine. It was new with the box as well. I could load it and everything, but my problems didn't start until I tried to connect it to XD. I'm just wondering why it happened then, and not when I turned my game off before after saving.

So it was brand new, you just bought it?

Also, what's this about:
http://www.serebii.net/attackdex/meteoricswarm.shtml

I was just looking through the attack dex and found that. Is that a move that was supposed to be in the 3rd gen, but no Pokemon actually knows the move or something?

Yeah it certainly looks that way. Either that or it turned into Draco Meteor and Joe never removed it from the site. You could always e-mail him about it.

It actually is Draco Meteor, but for some reason he put it in the 3rd Gen. Attackdex with the wrong name.

No. It's a fake game. And the battery cannot erase the save file.

Is there anyway to know for sure if my game is fake? I can take pics of the box and cartridge. Nothing at all seemed weird about game play.

Does your game link with others as well, or is there problems with that? And if your game gives you a message 'the save file is ok' or something along those lines everytime you switch it on, it's fake.

bobandbill, actually, there is two type of internal battery drying:
I know about that Berry Glitch and all that jazz - why I said it's probably the internal battery being dead. =/ Or did I say it unclearly? Eh, whatevers. >_<

Yes, but even if the battery is dead, the Berry Program update should make berries able to grow even if the time doesn't pass, just like it does in Emerald.

Yes, every time I turn it on, I get a message:

First: "The Save File has been Loaded," or "The Save Data has been Deleted due to Corruption."

Then: "The Game Can Be Played."

I did think that was weird for a Pokemon game. I watched walkthroughs of Emerald just to see if my game had something different in it, I just never noticed the beginning part.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the manual in the box seemed a little weird to me. But that may be a coincidence.

So I'm guessing Pokemon XD might purposely break the battery of a fake to stop me from playing it. Like how FireRed had that "Buy this or die," thing.

I have a question about emerald...

Does synchronize works on the regis? I heard synchronize doesn't work on

The stationary legendaries, and I was just checking here...

I'm pretty sure it does - their stats and all, I believe, are only generated when the battle starts - hence, Synchronize comes into play. Although someone else might want to confirm - but I'm pretty certain of this.

I'm fairly new here. I recently started playing pokemon again, and I just happened to start playing on my Emerald. I never knew of all that I was missing out on and all of this stuff is pretty much new to me. I have been doing my research and what not, but I have a question. In emerald specifically, I read that the way the RNG was coded that there is a way to assure you that if you get a pokemon within those frames it's going to be shiny, all dependent on your SID and PID. My question is, does that mean that would be the "only" time to get a shiny, or does the original 1/8192 still come in to play for everything. Because of the way I was reading the information, I can't tell whether it means that that is the only time you can get a shiny, or if it's just a way to make it so its 100% sure you will get a shiny, without trying to SR over and over and over... And with that I would have another question, I have never gotten a shiny before, so is it actually possible to SR to get basically anything shiny? Like the starters? Sorry to sound like a noob, this is all new to me and I'm a little confused >.>

EDIT: So, I still haven't picked up my anorith from the de-fossilizer person, and so all I need to do is save in front of him and just get my anorith, and if it's not shiny just A+B+Select+Start 'till I get one?

Basically you were correct with everything you say. Those frames are when you get a shiny. the 1/8192 is just the rough chance until you get one of those frames.

SRing will only help you get a shiny if it's something you interact with. Such as the Legendaries, starters, fossils etc. If it's a wild Pokemon it wont do much good obviously.

So, if what I do think is correct, are there multiple windows of opportunity? Or is there just one specific time at which it would be possible for you to get a shiny, leaving you to roughly one shiny chance per reset? Because if there is just one place where you can get a shiny, how would resetting it help, since that would restart it back to 0?

Edit: And for a different question, if you put R/S/E Fr/Lg into the GBA slot in a DS, can you use the wifi to battle/trade? Or do you need the Wireless adapter thing for the GBA/SP? Also, can you link up an SP with a DS through a link cable and trade pokemon that way?

The are chances of getting more than one per game. Resetting usually seeds the Random Number Generator (RNG).

Put in english, A RNG is really a List of numbers, like 1 2 5 9 4 0 7 9.. When ever the programming asks for a Random Number it gets the number from the list, and the next time it asked it gets the next number in the list. So it could give 2 5 9, from the list. Re seeding will pick a new starting point, (for example the 5th number, (4)). There are various methods to seed the RNG. Resetting usually triggers the Seeding "program."

AS for Trading with GBA games you can't use a DS at all, unless you're transfering to DPPt, or an In-game trade.
