Anyone know how long you have to wait to trade after you get a communication error on the GTS? 'Cause I heard different periods of time...

The one time it happened to me it was something like 2-3 hours. I'm not sure how that syncs up with what you've been hearing, but that's the best I've got.

Yes it is, with the definition of the average. If you take a gazillion players, and you let them all hatch eggs until they get a shiny, on average over all these gazillion players it will take 512 eggs until they get their first shiny. Some will get it on their first egg, some on their 1000th, maybe the odd unlucky one on his/her 5000th, but the average will be on the 512th egg.

Not quite. In that scenario, the more eggs are hatched, what results is not that the average is the 512th egg, but that for every shiny Pokémon hatched, there will be about 511 not-shiny Pokémon. That's it. Because the odds are the same for your 1st egg as they are for your 1000th, as the number of hatched eggs approaches infinity by a multitude of players, the egg count when a shiny hatches will be spread out closer to perfectly even.

Think of it this way. The odds are 1 in 512? So let's say you had ten times that many players: 5,120 players with the Shiny Charm and using the Masuda Method. Everyone plays until they've hatched their first egg. Then you check all 5,120 eggs. You're probably going to get about 10 shiny Pokémon. Repeat this for the second egg for each player. Of the 5,120 second eggs, you'll most likely find about 10 shiny Pokémon there too. Same for the third iteration of 5,120 eggs, and all subsequent iterations. (Note that this is not a guaranteed outcome, and the odds are very small, but it's still the most likely outcome.)

What you are describing is the Gambler's Fallacy, the idea that the longer you wait for something good to happen, the more likely the good thing will happen soon. Casino owners want you to believe this, because it means you play for long periods of time and sink a lot of money into a slot machine or a craps table or whatever.

are the stall recommendations in festival plaza random on a daily basis? i made 1 guest a VIP to get some clothing items a while ago and just recently found out they had team green 5*. the player also has treasure hunt 2* which is useless to me as i have a 5* stall already. i tried getting a recommended shop but they're recommending the treasure hunt. i still need to get some bright purple items?? but green 5 is the one i really want. can i try again next day and get another recommended shop from the player? i havent made a trade/message to this player yet and dont know how the recommended shops are selected. can anyone clear this up for me?

When you go in the castle and talk to the guy with the construction helmet you can reorganize your shops. The shop at the top of the list is ALWAYS the one recommended. What probably happened is that person that you VIPed changed the shop that was at the top of their list. They connected to the internet and it got updated, you connected to the internet so their character in your plaza got updated... and now that's what you've got.

The clothes recommendations are random, from the ones the person's character is wearing at the time. But the shops are not random.

thank you very much for the reply, i guess i'll just have to hope they can switch the order of their shops. i do need to check out other colors atm but i'll try to contact that player as worst case scenario to see if i can get green5* from them. its rather hard to SR a specific 5* color shop when i got a .016% chance to get it.

I can't seem to get a concrete answer regarding a question I have about fishing for bottle caps. Is it necessary to soft reset the game at all while fishing for them - and if so, when? After every rippling spot spent or after every bottle cap found? Or, do you simply need to walk in and out of the Steelix boat, no soft resetting required, period? Thanks.

Anyone know if the missions on Festival Plaza are broken, or is Festival Plaza simply dead? 4 out of 5 times there is absolutely no mission going on so I have to host it myself, and if I do it's usually only like 2 or 3 people that actually join in the mission if any (and yes Communication Mode is set to internet). I'm starting to think something is broken if some people are already over rank 100, I wouldn't have the Festival Tickets to get that high, I usually run out pretty quickly (or can you buy them somewhere aside from the 3 you get daily from the mission lady?).

"Rare" Clothing in Sun/Moon

I'm curious about the "Rare" clothing designs found in the Malie City Town Hall Flea Market (I believe). My game has the Rare Shoe patterns as being sold, but I've heard of other people getting other clothing items sold from there, like hats. In fact, I have acquired a Rare Order Street Cap from the Festival Plaza by talking to another player who had one on. Though, are there Rare versions of other clothing items like Shirts or Pants?

The answer for both of these is the same. Sophocles either needs to suggest it when your plaza ranks up or you have to talk to the other players' characters that show up in your plaza and hope they are recommended shops, plus have the FC to be able to afford paying for it.

You have the chance to get extra festival tickets from Sophocles (if you say no to a shop suggestion) and from ghost houses. It's only a chance though. You can't buy them.

As for the missions, it seems to highly depend on the time of day you're playing, the day of the week that you're playing, etc. But you can also increase the amount of FC you get with the fortune tellers.

So, assuming an EV is already at 100, how many Pokémon would you have to defeat in an SOS chain (with your Pokémon holding a Power item) to get a stat to 252 EVs?

I'm pretty sure it'd be nine battles, but I want to make sure.

Edit: As a follow up question, how many battles for 128 EVs (same conditions as above)?

Yes, it would be nine battles, assuming the Pokemon in question only gives 1 EV by default. If it's 2 (say for example, Oricorio), you only need eight Pokemon.

As for your second question, I'm not totally sure what you mean. If you mean how many to get to 252 from 128, you'd need seven (again, assuming 1 EV base yield). If you mean how many to get to 128 from 0, seven would bring you to 126, so you can't get an even 128 just using a Power item and SOS.

Sorry, should've been more specific. I meant getting to 128 from 100 (using SOS and a Power Item).

Oh, I see. In that case, the closest you can get would be to take out one SOS Pokemon and then the original for a net 27 (18 for the SOS, 9 for the original), bringing you up to 127. Then just do one more battle without the Power item and get the 1 more you need.

so i was playing pokemon sun at 1 am and morning pokemon were appearing. i am confused with this time stuff it doesnt make any sense shouldnt 1 am time appear night pokemon?

1, Make sure your DS's time is synchronized first. 2, Where and more importantly, when are you in the game? There are a few events (pretty much all at the beginning) that have a set time of day they take place in. (Also I don't think morning pokemon are a thing anymore, just day and night but that's nitpicking)
