I think there should be more Earthbound characters, and you should be able to play as Wario and Waluigi. Also, they should have Slippy Toad and Peppy Hare as unlockable characters and they should make the stages 3-d so you're not just running in a straight line for every one of them!
Peppy and Slippy are relatively unpopular compared to Krystal and Wolf I am sorry to say, but think about it for a bit... Earthbound does need probably one more character... Wario = yes Waluigi = no. Waluigi doesn't have any background to him, just party games... Wario has a couple good series with his name on it.
I do want a 3-d mode, unlike many, but with the ability to play the old mode as well. Imagine Sheik's Needle Storm or Link's Boomerang.
Well... I guess I'll repost my list of things to consider for choosing characters for... I honestly lost count of how many times I've posted this...
Alas it took me a bit of digging, but here it is:
Before we pick and choose any, we first must think of how popular it is in the games he/she/it is. Pichu debuted in America a year before SSBM was released, but in Japan it is amazingly popular. People also have developed their own styles with each character taking even Pichu out would be illogical. You know who I want so I wont bore you on here.
I will list a couple things you should go by to help your consideration of possible characters.
1. How big of a role did that character have? Were they the/one of the main character(s), or villain(s)?
2. How popular is the game they are in? Was it a best seller or a flop?
3. Are there better picks form that series? Are there many popular characters to pick from in that series?
4. What is the character's popularity? How many fan sites does the character have? How much much non game merchandise can you buy with the character on it?
5. Would it fit in Super Smash Bros.? Is it way too big? Would it have an inspired move set? Would they most likely be a clone?
6. Have they starred/co-starred in a mainstream part of a series (yet)? I do not want to particularly dis one of your favorite picks, but... Waluigi and Rukario (we don't even know the English name...) have yet to see a release for a game where they are a big focus in it.
7. Does it have a television show that helps glorify the character or other things (like TCG cards). I do not want to step on people's ides, but We haven't really seen Blaziken a lot on the anime. I feel that Charizard has more of a chance being in SSBR than Blaziken does. Charizard has quite the loyal fanbase, but I wouldn't put it on my list right now...
I don't see Waluigi jumping on any Goombas unfortunately... And D/P is awhile away... It really depends on when it releases and when SSBR releases in order for it to have the possibility of making it. Also remember in SSBM Pichu was the most recent character made for the game.
Elaborations with my top four (tier 1) character picks:
1. Diddy Kong: Ok this guy has been around for a very long time and to many it was a surprise he wasn't in SSBM. He has quite a moveset you can work off of: Peanut Popguns, Jetpack Barrels (are they copyrighted by Rare?), the infamous cartwheel, etc. You have a lot to work with here... (Why not even a stinking trophy HAL...?)
2. Wario: Another no-brainer here... It was a surprise not seeing him in SSBM as well. He has his own series and with the amount of games he's starred in there are quite a few moves to choose from. I'm not bothering to spend 2 hours researching all of them
Greed makes him popular, which is a paradox in it's own respects.
3. Meta Knight: Kirby's ally/rival or something? Ok I don't know much about him, but I've heard enough to make him my third pick. Sprouting wings and such just sounds cool.
4. Krystal: Some of you may be surprised, but the third most popular character from Starfox I think has many things to offer. (If you don't agree with me, go and research about her fanbase. One word: Huge.) With her staff (Another Rare copyright?) ([SPOIL]it was probably on the Greatfox when it exploded (no staff usage in Assault...), which no one seems to pay any attention to anyway so let's continue...[/SPOIL]) and psychic abilities (telepathy that does little with it... Considering the fact that HAL will make moves out of nothing for SF characters (Fox and Falco) you'll probably see her using some sort of telekinetic moves like Ness and Mewtwo (telepathy is reading other's emotions (if you do care) and telekinesis is more like banging someone into a wall using your mind... if you must have a reference watch Family Guy) she has more of a chance to have an inspired moveset) moves can be made. Still a controversy... But look at the steps of choosing the right characters. (I wrote too much here...)
Tier 2 picks:
1. Toad: Ok as much as I don't like this guy I have to say he's pretty freaking popular. Picking veggies seems to have gotten him more popularity...
2. Wolf O'Donnell: Everyone's getting their rival it seems, might as well add him in since his popularity went up a bit after Assault. "When the time comes... Don't hesitate, just act." You'll hear that somewhat commonly said by loyal SF fans.
3. Plusle & Minun: People want these Pikachu lookalikes to be in the next SSBR as a team. They seem to have drawn a bit of a fanbase and their appearance is expected.
4. Dixie Kong: The third most popular Kong is another possible choice, although I'm not too sure about this one...
5. Lynn: Ok I have not played Fire Emblem before, but I've heard quite a few fans talking about her. Again I'm not too sure.
6. Paula: I know next to nothing about Earthbound, but I've heard many people talking about her as a possible character, especially since she taught Ness some PSI moves, although I'm not sure on this one either. Especially since there are Jeff and Poo as well.
7. Charizard: If you look, it has a massive fanbase, I would consider giving this lizard a shot at this far before Meowth hits the stage. Blaziken isn't even that popular. Charizard is known by trainers of old and new.
8. Eevee: This is the only time when I let my inner fanboy be unleashed. How many pokémon fans know about Eevee? Practically all of them if they are real fans, trainers of old and new are familar with it. All of it's six forms popularity combined together exceeds Meowth and is seemingly rivaled with Charizard in the States. It has been a starter more than anything else and I want to play as it and evolve... I dislike the anime, but all of the episodes that Eevee or one of it's evolutions were in are half decent. Eevee is gaining popularity... If Hal were to implement Eevee I am sure they would find a way. C'mon... all of you want to use Acid Armor!
That is longer than some well written fanfics...
If you question my credibility, know this... I do about 15-30 min of research every day on SSBR alone. Cheebee I want you to be my first match on WiFi.
There are some people here who I know have an extensive knowledge about Smash such as the removal of a trophy for the US version of SSBM.
Cheebee is a person that has an adequate knowledge of Smash that is perhaps greater than mine and we will be working on a Super Smash Bros. Revolution All your Base are Belong to Us parody over Christmas break.
