I have a 2GB iPod Nano, and I'm having problems with it (obviously D

Each time I try to like scroll through it, you know, to select songs, it doesn't do anything. It just stays stuck at the menu screen. And no, the hold switch is not moved over to the right, thus locking the keys.
No, the only way I can do anything with it is hook it up to my iPod stereo thing, and use the remote. Otherwise, it doesn't work. And by that, I can only get to the music. As in, all my music files, and not just my playlists or anything.
Could someone please help?
by the way, I've tried connecting to iTunes, but nothing happened. D:
And the battery is charged, for your information.
