• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Ok, they need to stop making the first gym rock type

first most rock gyms aren't that hard even whit ember they are K0'd easely
second it is kinda stupid they have almost always rock first. I hope they change that in the V gen if they really have too, then use a not too obvious rock pokemon :/

Agreed. the Rock gym is usually easy and that's why the 1st gym's type must to be different that the other.

Mostly it was pretty easy to finish with this gym but the other gyms are hard.

I agree. Rock-type gym is getting too common. It's unfair that Fire is always the type with the disavantage in the beginning (specially because I always pick the Fire starter :p).

I remember my first days in Kanto, when I jumped from a chair because my Charmeleon had finally defeated Misty's Starmie! Then some jerk turned off my Game Boy -_-

I like the idea of the Hard/Medium/Easy setting about the types, but could they change? Rock is geting boring... and Geodude/Onix isn't just boring, it's annoying!

I say bug first. Why ? Because in the beginning of every game the first pokémon that you encounter will be a ratata like poke a fly poke and mostly a bug. Bugs are also pretty easy to defeat, so. And yes a dark gym please, the eight gym must be dark. And yes fly in the E4.

Gym's

- Bug
- Steel
- Ground
- Psychic
- Normal
- Fire
- Poison
- Dark

E4

- Fly
- Electric
- Grass
- Dragon

Champion

- Random

I'm have to agree with the creator with this thread. This whole rock-gym as the first gym is just getting really freaking annoying now. First of all those who said that we could just train our fire starters or catch other Pokemon needs to realize although we can do that, it's just unfair. Why is it in three out of the four regions, we always have a tough time starting out? Some of you guys wouldn't be saying stuff like this if you always have a disadvantage against the first gym. Second the rock gym as first is just boring now. I mean Roark is possible my fav. rock leader but still, we don't need more rock gyms.
I always pick Charmander and I'm still saying stuff like how u can train them to level up and such. You should be looking forward to it since you can play the game longer.

Hrm, 3 out of 4 times and you're complaining? Sure, they could use a bit more switching around with the gym types, but by now, the rock type just happens to be a good first gym type to challenge you. Jhoto is the exception, but it's freaking weird anyway.

I don't really mind there being a rock type Pokémon as the first gym leader in most places... I mean, if you do choose fire... why not train up other Pokémon as well... You don't have to stick to your starter all the time.

Mmm~♪ Hmm~♪
thank God that the johto's first gym is a flying type gym leader.but as long as i get the badge,i dont really mind

it's not that rock is hard but, it's kinda predictable but, you never know what they change in 5th gen, and yes they need to do a dark gym that would be awesome :}

Maybe they chose it because of the starters. Grass and Water have no problem with this type as a first gym. Fire type pokemon might have a ground move.

Or, if you don't feel like doing that, just carry a hell load of potions and train your charmander till it learns "Metal" claw and then you growl Brock's pokemons to death so that it's feeble against you :p.

...But if this is first gen (ie: R/B/Y), then I suppose it'd make more sense (as Metal didn't start to exist till 2nd gen), so of course you'd proably need help to beat Brock.

Well, in R/B/Y there was Mankey/Nidoran to catch and train to defeat Brock

They should really stop Rock Gym being the first one. Its not because it difficult with a fire type (because its easy, really), I just don't like how its the same gym all the time and even more annoying is that its always Geodude and Onix in the picture.

I think a Dragon-type first Gym would be epic

we know early fighting gyms are a bad idea, brawley=most pokemon KO'd unless you went out and got a flying or sablye, which is the same as getting Mankey/Nidoran in Kanto.

If they make another gen I think these should be the gym types, Dark, Bug, Poison, Dragon, Psychic, Fire, and Normal. Not necessarily in that order.

Only in Yellow actually. There was no Mankey in Red and Blue and Nidoran learned low kick at a much higher level. If you picked Charmander in Red and Blue you were going to have to be a little more creative against Brock. He was still a complete joke, as I could easily take out his Geodude with my Charmander around level 9-11 and his Onyx with my other 6 pokemon at similar levels or lower.
