• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Ok, they need to stop making the first gym rock type

If they make another gen I think these should be the gym types, Dark, Bug, Poison, Dragon, Psychic, Fire, and Normal. Not necessarily in that order.

Well Rock gym type is still the most common. maybe they should do another Rock gym but not as the first. So than no one will have a problem.

Well, in R/B/Y there was Mankey/Nidoran to catch and train to defeat Brock

...Yeah well, if it was only in R/B, the Nidoran's never learned Double Kick till it was in it's level 40's. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Mankey only catchable in Pokemon Yellow? Or was it possible to get early in the game in Pokemon Red as well?

all rock gyms were easy. except for roxanne. she'd kill yo *** w/ her nosepass. damn that was had, i needed to catch a slakoth to yawn it to sleep yesterday. twice. damn thing.

At least, RSE, FRLG and DPPt gave us the option of teaching our fire type a fighting type move. The main reason I hate the first gym being the rock type is 'cos it's boring and predictible. Geodude? C'mon!

Mankey was catchle in Red, but only around Saffron city, so it didn't help a lot for Brock. I forgot which poke I used against him, but if you trained charmander enough to evolve before facing Brock, he was easy to defeat.

Yeah, Geodude was too often in the first gym. they had to do it a Graveler/Golem, at least once.

Only in Red, i faced a difficulty beating Brock. Had to train mine to a Charmeleon and a Butterfree with Confusion.

In Fire Red, Metal Claw was my way through.
In R/S/E, Combusken took care of the job. Nosepass was easy.
In DPPt, Monferno was the hero.

In all these gyms, the Geodude's were just pushovers. Too common, that rock.

While I do agree with the person who said picking your starters was basically picking your difficulty level in the game, I also believe there should be a little more variety in the pokemon games. Whether that means new type gyms, or switching up the pokemon lineup in certain gyms for pokemon that are less frequently used.

Maybe implement a Rock gym where the leader used pokemon such as Corsola, Cradily, and Magcargo against the starter pokemon. This could help with strategy by teaching new players when to switch out their pokemon.

This is why johto was good. There was variety! (flying type)
But I agree. Although the rock-thing is kind of a tradition, maybe they could try adding some dual-types, like nosepass or maybe relicanth. (I'm assuming relicanth is rock/water. If it's ground/water, sorry.)

The Johto gyms were the best, but not only because there wasn't a Rock gym.
I think that they might chose the Rock type gym only for Brock, because he's still in the show. this could be one of the reasons, but I'm not sure.

1 more day ^^
I hope in the fifth gen they don't have a rock gym, at least first, and I hope there is no geodude, booorrring >.<

Nosepass is just a rock type and honestly, it has been AGES since a ground type gym

Actually to add on to my previous response, I noticed something else that caught my eye. Has anyone noticed that the Rock Gym really isn't the 1st gym? I was looking up the map layouts on the PokeEarth and it got me thinking.

Viridian City is the 1st gym you come across, but it happens to be conveniently closed. What if the trainer stayed there and waited for it to re-open... or better yet, what if subsequent gyms were closed as well.

And what about Petalburg? Your own father refuses you from challenging him. Another example of trainers being turned away.

I also noticed Jubilife City doesn't have its own gym. Usually the big cities are where you find the gyms, but apparently not in Jubilife. Also if our character knew how to swim, he could have always gone to Canalave before going to Oreburgh.

@Penguinist Trainer- I think what they're aiming at is giving you an experience that is driven by circumstance to make the journey interesting. Though I don't remember if the anime treated Viridian as the location of the final gym, in the games it lets you arrive and think you've found your first challenge only to find that the gym is closed, thus forcing you to continue to the only other option; Pewter to the north. Later on in the game, you see this again; you can't get to Saffron until you beat several other gyms. It's the same in RSE, your dad refuses to battle, so your original plans are scrapped and you must continue to the next gym in Rustboro.

I'd also imagine that not all trainers start from the playable character's town; otherwise, it would be much bigger. That would add some explanation to the confusing gym locations.

I think that nintendo should try a dual type gym, say, dark/ghost, that would make it hard for the trainers, against the sableyes and spiritomb lol

They need to make a Dark-type gym as it was the only type not be done yet. They also need to have Bug, Poison, Ground, and Dragon as they've been only done once.

I think they need to make a Dark-Type Gym as well. I would also like to see another Ground-Type Gym too. I can't wait to see what surprises the 5th Gen holds.

I think that they (the people who make pokemon games) need to put the rock type as a second gym leader and grass type gym leader as a first gym leader.

I think they need to do away with the Rock-Type Gym in the 5th Gen and make the next Grass Leader a guy for once.
