Ok, they need to stop making the first gym rock type

I never noticed that Rock type is the first gym, usually.

But why are you complaining so much for a gym battle that lasts a few minutes and you probably won't remember much about anyway?

Assuming, but judging on the popularity of the fire starters over the others amongst most players, I'd say they're pretty popular and the most often picked.

Kanto Johto gym types were perfect.
Johto had every type that Kanto didn't (except Dark)

Hoenn obviously had a new mix, leaning more towards Kanto when comparing.

I expected GF to make Sinnoh have gyms specialising in types that didn't get a gym in Hoenn and balance this a bit. But sadly it's like the opposite. Rock again....WAter again...How about the 1st Dark gym ever? NO way, lets put in another electric and fighting gym yes....

But do they gotta be so bogus to fire types i mean seriously

They already don't make enough and now they are triyng to screw them up in the gyms

They don't make enough? Enough fire pokemon? Go count pokemon from each type and you'll find there are other types who get less places or some types that are mostly used as the additional secondary types etc...

screw them up by making the first gym use geodudes? alright....

Dark, ground, dragon, bug, and poison need some more gyms, so ground could be an easy substitute for rock.

I agree the next first gym need to be Normal type or Bug.

...Despite the fact that the normal-type Gyms are usually ones people have a lot of trouble with. Considering that they don't have any strengths, normal-types are still really powerful, probably too much so for a first Gym; that's why they've been at least the third Gym in every game they've been featured in so far.

Dark, ground, dragon, bug, and poison need some more gyms, so ground could be an easy substitute for rock.

But then it's just the same argument; if you look at Kanto's Gym roster, both of Brock's pokemon are ground/rock-types. It wouldn't make it any easier for people who pick the fire-type starter, which is what this thread is arguing for; in fact, it'd probably make it harder. And throwing any of the other types you listed in there (with the possible exception of the bug-type Gym) wouldn't be any good at all for a region's first Gym.

Have you ever though that, even without any Fighting/Steel type attack, a fire pokemon easily destroys Rock type gym. If you're willing to train and evolve, then just use your STAB Ember and gym leader will be crying in the corner. Why? Their Special Defense is just horrid.

Finally someone else gets it. There is more to the game than type match ups. Geodude has a base 100 defense and a base 30 special defense and Onyx is a little better in Special defense but has a much lower attack stat but has a. You don't need metal claw, ember works fine. In 3rd and 4th gens you can catch water/grass types anyway so it doesn't matter.

I guess it's because of Brock's gym, so they keep it up as the first gym in almost every region.

And Geodude, it is really strange why the gym leader uses it, and not a Golem, for example.

There isn't much to complain about for the poor fire types past gen 1 when as somebody said before me, the first game basically had a easy, normal, and hard mode based on which starter you pick with fire being the hard type, water normal, and grass being easy. In gen 2 the mixed it up with grass being the hard type, water staying normal, and fire being easy. Past gen 2, all fire starters learn moves which are super-effective against rock pokes pretty early.

As for the repeated use of rock type gyms, I guess because rock type pokemon aren't the hardiest types in the world if somebody can prepare for them. With their tendancy to have dirt poor special defence, weaknesses to some of the most common pokemon types, and an attraction to have the ground type as their secondary type, they can be taken out quite easily with 1 or 2 grass or water pokemon types. The only thing they have up their sleeve is the fossil pokes, unique pokemon like shuckle and magcargo (who still get destroyed by water types), and the rare steel typing where rock's other weakness, fighting comes in. And even after that, they still have steel and ground types to worry about.

Having a rock type gym latter in the gym give players to much time build their team up. With early rock type gyms, players don't have much time to catch many different types. With novice players who like to just run through skipping training and catching are in for a rude surprise especially if they picked a fire starter. Having a rock type gym can give a player a taste of whats the game is like with an easy victory if they can down the gym fast enough, and slows down speeders and makes them learn the valueable skills of catching and training.

Gym Leader ----- would like to battle.
Gym Leader ----- sends out Golem.
Go Charmander!
Golem uses Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Charmander faints.

Isn't it cute ^^
Bug, flying, steel, or ground would be better choices for the first gym in the next series.
l

Steel? That means that choosing the Grass type starter will have a huge disadvantage at the first gym, so people will start saying:"Oh no, we want a rock type gym as the first gym!" It won't work, Bug or ground might, but why not do something new and start with a dark gym?

I guess it's because of Brock's gym, so they keep it up as the first gym in almost every region.

And Geodude, it is really strange why the gym leader uses it, and not a Golem, for example.

Because the first gymleaders use low leveled pokémon. I can remember the fuss when G/S/C came out and falkner had an under-level-evolved Pidgeotto.
If every gym had that the games would be too hard. A Golem in the first gym? a Golem level 10? Or a Steelix, or a Rampardos lvl 10 in the first gym?
It won't work.

A ground gym has the same effect but makes fire a sllighty better choice with tougher pokemon like sanshrew, hippopotas and maybe even rhydon.

Johto says hi^^

I'm perfectly aware of that. However, it's still 3 out of 4 opening gyms. It's boring enough seeing it twice, three times is ridiculous, and any more is just plain stupid.

gamefreak doesnt care what you think.

Bull. OK, me on my own, I don't count for much. But I'm still a consumer. And of course GameFreak cares what consumers want. That's how they make money.

But why are you complaining so much for a gym battle that lasts a few minutes and you probably won't remember much about anyway?

Because gym battles and the Elite Four are still the centrepoint of the plot. Therefore, they need to be challenging and fun. Fighting the same gym 3/4 times is dull enough, I'm just saying that I don't want to fight it a fourth time.

Could they just make a Dark Type gym in the V generation?

Vintage much?
It doesn't matter really who the type is, I mean it is done once you beat them, you can't savour it
