lets say that shaymin is the last Pokemon on the list and there nothing below it
so if i get arceus will a new spot appear under shaymin
    example

    490 manaphy
491 darkrai < thats what the nat dex looks like on platinum with out arceus>
492 shaymin last pokemon spot on nat dex
    no more pokemon spots available

    now after i get arceus
it would look like this right

    490 MANAPHY
    491 darkrai
492 shaymin after i get arceus
    493 arceus
end of list for nat dex

Whenever you get a pokemon with the highest number of the ones you've encountered so far, it appears as the end of the dex. For example, once you get the National Dex in Platinum, the highest will be 490. It expands. Just like all dexes have done. They've always listed the highest number you've seen as the final number in your Pokédex until you find a Pokémon with a higher number

    Yep, it just extends itself.

Did you ever play Red or Blue? There was a man on the S.S. Anne that would show you a Snorlax. After that point, your Pokedex would extend all the way down towards the bottom with tons of blank spaces. It always extends to show you the highest numbered Pokemon you've seen, regardless of whether or not the spaces before it is consumed by anything else.

As serebii and the others said, it extends itself, there's nothing different from the hgss pokedex apart from the layout.
