I hope they contribute to the story

I agree, unlike the SM classmates whose presence didn't add anything to the new episode other than nostalgia, and I use the term "nostalgia" loosely since they had only been gone less than a year prior to their comeback this week.

Man, and I thought Lance was kind of out of left field back then... I think Chuck was the LAST person I or anyone expected to make an appearance again. I definitely would have thought Maylene would be in his place, actually.
Someone, somewhere, is probably overjoyed by this!

Maylene had a whole arc in the show so yeah I think she deserved to appear again in place of Chuck. No offense to Chuck but he's not nearly as memorable as Maylene was.

Chuck was the Johto Gym leader, right? I liked Johto but I always forgot about Falkner because I cared more about the Bellsprout Tower and the fighting type gym leader because I was busy worrying over Suicune and the medicine.

I’m more impressed that they actually brought Chuck back of all people, expected them to forget about most of Johto :>

I'd argue that Maylene having an arc means she doesn't need the screentime compared to Chuck, who only had like one ep to his name, I believe?

Shijima is among my least favorite Jouto Gym Leaders, so his return doesn't exactly hit the spot. I'd rather see Akane, Matsuba, or Hayato return, although I understand why Shijima was chosen given his type specialty. Still, this would've been a great time to introduce Renbu instead since he's also a Fighting-type specialist.

Satoshi only remembers stuff when it is for the plot. Tbh I dont even remember Chuck in the anime.

Yep. Like most (non-companion) Gym Leaders in the OS, he was a glorified COTD in OS209. Though he got some referential cameos (not worth much, but it's something)

Soniman

Break the Limit
You know it would be really easy to knock out May-Dawn-Serena cameos by having an episode about Pokemon Contests and showcasing that by having alumni coordinators show them how it's done. Heck make it a Wallace Cup to justify having them all together, PLEASE make it a 2-3 parter bada bing bada boom

For a Gym Leader who wasn't exactly important, he's certainly made a lot of cameos. It seems that quite a few Fighting-type specialists in the anime idolize him despite him being a rather mediocre Gym Leader.

The only Johto gym leader people remember are Clair and Morty. Everyone else is kinda forgettable.

Of course, there's also that Pink demon that shall not be named.

Clair, Morty, and Rollout are definitely the most popular of the Johto leaders, but I've seen plenty of people who like Falkner, Jasmine, and Pryce, too. Just a little bit less than those three.

Hah, if any other Johto gym leader were to return, it’d be Clair for the most obvious reasons. Every other is just forgettable really hence why I’m even impressed that they actually decided to bring back Chuck.

I agree with Clair since out of all the characters that they could have brought back in BW they chose her. I still think Pryce can show up since he has played a role in Pokémon Masters so I think more people that play that game would recognize him.

I know that she's fairly popular, but I think the main reason for why she returned was because she was a Dragon-type specialist, and they clearly wanted her to have an influence on Iris.

Or Byron, Byron was cool.

I personally never really liked Tougan but I liked Hyouta, and I seem to recall that he's got quite a following since he's a typical bishonen character. Frankly, I wish that the upcoming Fossil Pokemon episode had been set in Hyouta's hometown instead of Nibi City.
