Old Characters with Mega-Evolutions?

Jangobadass

Surprise!
I hope it's okay to start a thread about this and my most sincere apologies there's something iffy about it, but I thought it was a very interesting thing to discuss and it might deserve its own thread. You may move or delete if necessary, dear admins.

*ahem*

Now, I know that there are some characters with mega-evolable Pokémon in X & Y already, but a bunch of such Pokémon are postgame and/or version exclusive, meaning they're up for grabs as far as the creative staff is concerned. And if they're going to make old Pokémon a big deal, why not bring back old characters while they're at it to make things more interesting/fun and sweeten the deal? After all, you just never know when an old character will pop up on this show and the producers like to stoop to use nostalgia every now and then.

Here's the list of potential returns:

Venusaur-May, Spencer
Charizard: Liza, Cassidy; maybe Ritchie
Blastoise - Gary, Cissy, Lola; maybe May
Alakazam- Luana, Eusine/Eugene, Anabel, Kenny; maybe Sabrina
Gengar - OI Drake, Morty, Agatha, Fantina
Kangaskhan - o_O
Pinsir - o_O
Gyarados - Misty, Lance, Clair. Professor Ivy (and her two little friends ;) ), Trinity, Maximum Mask, Lola
Aerodactyl - o_O
Ampharos - Jasmine, Watt (with Wattson in tow)
Scizor - Gary, Katie; maybe Tracey or Bugsy
Heracross - Barry, Conway
Houndoom - Harrison, Joshua, The Proprietor; maybe Cassidy
Tyranitar - Rico; maybe Ritchie
Blaziken - Harrison, May
Gardevior- Concordia
Mawhile- o_O
Aggron - Steven Stone, Butch, Paul
Medicham - Grace, Greta, Candice; maybe Maylene
Manectric- Wattson
Banette - Harley
Absol - Drew
Garchomp - Cynthia; maybe Ursula, Iris (though I hope not)
Lucario - Maylene, Riley, Kotetsu (Arceus help us)
Abomasnow - Candice, Drago
Latios - I think many of you know this one ;)
Latias - That one Nurse Joy? (though I sure hope not )
Sceptile - Tyson
Swampert - Morrison, Tucker; maybe Brock, Nicholai
Sableye - Cassidy
Altaria - Winona, E4 Drake, Nando
Salamence - E4 Drake, Silver; (though Hunter J would've rocked it! *sniff* :()
Metagross - Anabel, Tyson; maybe Morrison
Lopunny - Nando, maybe Dawn
Audino - o_O (unless you want a Nurse Joy with a Mega-Evolution...)
Slowbro- Lorelei/Prima, Solidad

Now I know some of these people very well might show up. Heck, some of those are kind of pointless thanks to XY characters who do have mega-evolable pokes...

But still, it's something to think about, and would be really cool. If they want me to get all excited to about old Pokémon getting the spotlight, they'll need to throw in some long absent characters to make it worth my while.

I also find it interesting that [spoil] Ash's League Rivals and Most of the Champtions[/spoil] have/could have mega-evos (ditto [spoil]Butch & Cassidy[/spoil])

What about you guys? Who would YOU like to see come back under the banner of Mega-Evolution?

Cool thread idea! I think it's a possibility that May could return to the anime briefly with her mega-mons. I mean, last she was shown in the anime was DP, and she had a Wartortle and a Blaziken with her; not to mention her Bulbasaur that she obtained towards the end of AG for the RBY remakes. Anyway, my point is that May has a very good possibility of return. Of course since the voice-acting changes etc. etc. etc. it may not happen.
I also heard that there was to be a movie in 2015 revolving around the anime and Primal Groudon/Kyogre, so if there's any chance at all that May makes a cameo, it's either in an ORAS special, or said movie. Not sure if the movie part is real, but it's definitely a conversation starter ^u^

Not only would it make sense for May to return for the remakes, it'd be a good opportunity to showcase mega-evolution within contests; let-alone the new features available (like costumes, etc.) not available in the original games.

Yeah, ok!
I doubt any of this will happen. There are always new evo's for old pokemon. When Togekiss was revealed when DP first came out everyone thought Misty would come back and reunite with Togetic and it would evolve. Did that happen? No, they gave Dawn a Togekiss instead.

Down below are some of older characters which in my opinion would be very, very plausible candidates to return in Kalos and promote mega evolution(although having them appear in mega evolution special would be pretty cool too):

May: She has both Blaziken and Venusaur which offers potential to be mega evolved. Even potential Blastoise if WArtortle evolved. Granted whiler coordinators dont rely on brute strength and tactics in how to overcome foe pokemon type advantage/disadvantage, she was one of very few coordinators whose coordinator style was similar to regular battles due to influence Ash imposed on her. So by learning how to unlock full power of her pokemon could make her learn to develop new, more effective techniques for future battle rounds. Giving her an edge over opponents.

Though not gonna lie trainers like Harrison entering tournament to promote mega Blaziken would be cool too, given he is trainer competing in leagues for who mastering mega upgrade would be of immense help for future feats.

Misty; is another often forgotten but actually pretty promising candidate. She would arguably benefit the most from learning about mega evolution either through tournament where only mega forms are used(that would be very cool) or be involved with story of finding mega stones and key items. Considering her dream has always been about becoming water pokemon master, desire to reach E4 level of strength worshipping E4 Lorelei;featuring her Gyarados and through personal team work and understanding unleashing its full power and achieve perfect bond in working as one going in mega form(which is expected from anyone aiming to become mono master along with entering prestigue tournaments as evidenced by sea priest Maya), would serve as priceless experience in becoming stronger, more innovative trainer making stepforward in accomplishing goals of becoming top class water user .
While possibly playing role in Team Flare arc to stop Lysandre ad their abuse of mega evolution mechanisms for their twisted plans(yeah why not have her mega Gyarados battle Lysandre mega Gyarados?).

There is E4 Siebold who is basically water master who could be introduced in Kalos series through Misty being involved in special element tournament organized by him, To evaluate talent and knowledge of water trainers around world. Measuring through battles if any has potential for water master title being worthy to end up trained by him.

I imagine water enthusiast like Misty would be very eager and honored to meet such authority among water trainers, possibly irked and insecure of not having enough strength to succeed in reaching this power creep.

There is also mega Slowbro which she could technically showcase. I mean we haven't seen Misty for 9 years by now, It really isn't impossible that she caught more water pokemon. Not to mention seeing Misty with Slowbro would be fresh and unexpected twist to her pokemon roaster.
Or even Swampert since she never got one of starter pokemon. Totodile was plausible possibility and would have better fare with water specialist like her imo being just as enthusiastic and fangirly over it like Ash, but writers missed on that chance.

Gary: true he is nowadays researcher not being very active battler. However judging by his performance in DP and at end of BF when outmatching Ash reveals his skills didn't suffered as result of that still containing lot of knowledge and smart thinking in turning opponent power against himself of attacks. From wide range of catched pokemon he has acces to plenty like potential mega Scizor, Mega Blastoise or even Mega Akakazam(actually that would be very unorthodox and cool). Coming back to Kalos to do reseasrch about new pokemon species, possibly battle could arguably help his career of poke researcher discovering merchanisms responsible for awakening such power in pokemon and what requirements need to be set in order to achieve this. Learning about it through battling and observing others.

P.S. Personally i believe it would be both bold and very interesting if with whole mega evolution theme Kalos has going for writers and show executives decided to featured some of Ash previous companions and older friends filling it with more excitement, unpredictability and better sense oif following sttengthening anime plot.
Having chance to shine , give us update on what has been happening in their lives, enjoy in their quirks and vibrant cvhaeracterization having way to be rewlevant zo pokemon stiory and advance themselves.

Pretty much this imo. Any mega evolutions of a Pokemon that's owned by an older character will probably be owned by a new character in the current series.

I guess this is the logical answer. Of the group, May is the only one I think has a chance of returning only because of ORAS. And even then, Mega Blaziken has already been shown without her, so it's not like she's got anything to debut, unless the go Mega Venusaur, which I don't think they will. Everyone else on that list IMO doesn't stand a chance.

I agree that May probably has the best chance to reappear due to Mega Blaziken and ORAS. I kinda hope she does return. I don't think we'll see Mega Venusaur with her though - that's probably for Shauna!
I can also see Iris turning up with a Mega Garchomp. I hope not as her team was ridiculously over top and unbalanced already!

By the way, you didn't list anyone for Mega Pinsir, when you could have had Samurai. I know he was never a major character, but then nor are some of the others listed (Watt, Mcann, Katie, Vito, Dr Kenso)

OfCorsola

Brock and Misty!
If characters were return for Mega's, then there would be a line of episodes featuring them. I don't think Venasaur will show up from May due to they could've easily used the summer camp arc.

We should be getting a cameo from old characters with mega, but so far we havent gotten any. Most of the mega introductions were from new characters.

Ya know what, you're right. I'll go back and remove them (except Katie. Someone who was in a League--in a 2 episode battle at that--has potential). Sorry, it's just that when I was looking up who had what Pokémon I got carried away and things just snowballed.

Also, I fully realize this subject is likely all for naught. It's becoming increasingly apparent that Gen 6/XY characters are getting mega-evos in place of old friends. After all, coming up with new characters is probably a lot easier than finding ways to bring back old ones. But I can't help think "What if?" (along with a little "Hey, why not?").

Though one thing that gets me is how there are several Gen 3/AG characters with mega-evos who'd be good for ORAS promotion. For example, Steven could come back and actually DO something thanks to his interest in mega-evolution in ORAS (he got screwed over last time!). Also...I'm kinda hoping Mega-Banette could be used as an excuse to finally give Phoebe an animated appearance (why she didn't get one in AG is beyond me). Shot, I can even totally see Tobias with Mega-Latios because it just seems like the most sensible way to show off a Mega-Eon Duo member.

Besides, XY still has 2-3 years & about 100-150 episodes to go (depending on how long Gen 6 lasts). If it doesn't happen, so be it. But ya just never know...

Another thing I thought about was having a buncha folks show up for a big ol' 20th Anniversary party in a couple of years ;)

That's what I think that will continue to happen, I don't see any older characters returning just because they have a potential mega evolution Pokemon.

Its ironic how everyone discuss about chances of older characters coming back under storyline of having them involved with mega evolutions.

When OP question was along the lines of who we would like to see comeback having mega evolved pokemon?

Being supposed to be fun thread coming up with possibilities and reasonable ways to bring older rivals, traveling companions or recurring characters from past in future stories?

Moreso i will never undersand why everyone uses games as criteria in determining who of past friends have and who have not chance in coming back. Did people already forgot how someone does not need to even be in new games to comeback or play role in pokemon series.

Its enough that he is tied to Ash in sense of there existing close friendship between them. That same character exiting in timeline and continuity Ash is. As well his career, goals and plots being tied to newly introduced vectors and arcs in pokemon anime into which writers could infiltrate him/her advancing character through it.

Or everyone already forgotten that Gary who returned in Sinnoh didn't existed in DP games, same applies to Jessibelle. How Brock was main character long after he stopped being in new games.
Etc, etc.

Does it mean writers will be smart enough using popular, iconic characters in advertiziong new suiff and bringing new twist to mega evolution storyline?
I doubt it.

However im not oppose to it, and i see no reason why older characters like Misty, May, Gary etc couldn't be used as promoters of this new and recvolutionary feature pokemon introduced. Sure we could use new characters to showcase mega evolutions .

But realistcally wouldn't it be far more exciting and interesting to see previous characters we come to like, enjoy and appreciate being showcased in some badass action? Allow to develop them more and come to understanding how to push their skills and their own pokemon strength to higher level?

Especially if it could be of great help in advancing their dreams of becoming more adept and succesful as trainers coming closer in accomplishing their goals if its made in conjuction with other plots existing in Kalos(like i explained with Misty for example).

See some continuity present in XY series, throwbacks to anime history and coverage on Ash life and important friends which played big role in helping build his character, this anime story and plot.

Providing more strength and appeal to story with their presence, enjoy in exploration of dynamic between them and new characters with writers taking them in new fun directions.

I mean am i the only one who would find very cool to see Gary showing mega Alakazam, Blastoise or Pinsir?
Misty showing mega Gyarados, Slowbro or even Swampert adding more muscle to her team and make step forward in becoming water master better showing E4 members through her presence(in case writers decide to show them)? Not to mention her VA is available to voice her at any time.

May showing mega Venusaur or Blaziken playing role in Kalos story and spread out concept of contests among people in Kalos, sparking their interest for use of pokemon in more gracious, elegant way.

See them battle, do something important feeling relevant again, deliver more humor, spice and life into main cast with their playful spats, sarcasm, temper or passionate fondness for various things.

It would certainly make me more excited to see familiar character i like and enjoy who already have some background and fleshed out personality knowing something about him/her in promoting mega evolved pokemon.
Feeling rewarding that they improved so much to reach this new stage of evolution growing with their pokemon as result of that.

Rather than seeing some unknown character of who i heard nothing randomly appearing out pof npowhere with its pokemon passing of as forgettable COTD .

Thats not way to me in delivering memorable, impacting and thriling storyline.

Because only focusiong on new characters while treating older ones like trash. Despite there existing unexplored potential to do many interesting things with them already having background and predisposition to receive sequel, advance their dreams in more profined way, have them go in new exciting directions and allow us to enjoy in their personalities and qualities which drove us to like them in first place already having experience and developed relationship with Ash and others allowing for its build up?

Is wrong, disrespectful and most of all sefish in my opinion.

I dunno why, but Misty has a pretty good shot at coming back.

the XY games tickled gen 1 nostalgia to the bone, so why not boost the viewership by bringing her back for a while?

Gary too, but we already had a mega blastoise vs. mega charizard fight, which you would think they would have saved for a fight between them.

Serebii said that Mega Sceptile was supposed to appear in the anime on September 4. However, I haven't seen it anywhere. Please tell me Mega Sceptile will make an appearance! It's my favorite starter.

Just another guy
How about Tobias? He had a Latios, so we could see him even more OP with a mega latios. I doubt this would happen, but it would be a good way to show off old rivals. Maybe Harrison with his Blaziken or Paul with Aggron.

Misty and May seem like obvious choices, but maybe Iris gets a mega released in ORAS?

Weird have most of Ash's rival's seem to have more mega choices than Him.

The only character I see returning to promote a mega evolution is May due to ORAS

Other than that, I expect new characters to promote the mega evolutions.
