Gible evolving off screen after training with Charizard, Infernape, Sceptile and co. at Oak's would be plausible. Then Ash could then evolve Gabite into Garchomp at the League like how he evolved Cyndaquill into GodQuilava

I'm pretty sure Ash will have Mega Charizard and Sceptile along with Gredinja to have the "holy 3" at some point in XY.

I don't think he'll get Mega Heracross or Garchomp or any other pokes like that though./

I agree. I think the earliest that we get them will be near the League imo.

Yep. If any of Ash's Pokes is going Mega, it'll good old Uncle Charizard and no one else. Heck, I'm already expecting a Mega-Charizard X vs. Mega-Charizard Y battle with Alan sooner or later...

And here's a thought that recently crossed my mind: what is Norman appears alongside May and maybe Max (heck, bring the wife too!) with a Khangaskhan that gets to go Mega? I realize it likely won't happen, but it just sounds fitting (on multiple levels even).

Also...is anyone else starting to have this feeling that not every Mega-Evolable Pokémon will get to?

I pray to the Lord(e) that this scenario never happens tbh. I could handle Ash using Mega Charizard Y if it comes to that, but Alain shouldn't be involved in that in my opinion. He's got enough hype in his own specials.

Sinnoh anime faked us out so bad. Promised Misty instead get her lure and then they threw in Gary. Personally a i don't see Gary being in x and y he was in dp. If they use Tracey unlikely will be via phone call. I think most likely cameos are May and Misty. Because they are friends with Ash and have pokémon last seen with them that can mega evolve and even though I don't like megas I would tune in for that. It would be cool if Drew showed up with mega absol but very unlikely. Kee p in mind while Tracey and Drew played imporant roles in their time they really weren't planned to ever reappear past their relvance. Most likely way to get them even in short cameo will be via phone call. If they bother doing that and they wouldn't be in fore ground. I would like to see once in awhile in ll general on screen Ash calls his friends sure he does off screen but is it to much to occasionally show him calling Misty,Brock, May and Dawn once every 30 or so episodes show him calling one of them etc.

Venusaur: I don't think even if May returns, it'll be hers. If Shauna ends up as Ash's rival, I'd love to see Venusaur become Mega
Charizard: Ash is likely to have the Y version. They've showcased X twice, and it would be unfair for it not to appear. Plus it would boost the popularity with Ash using it
Blastoise: If Tierno reappears
Alakazam: Unless Kenny reappears(which is rather unlikely), we could see an original character
Gengar: They have a Hex Maniac appear and use one to do creepy stuff
Kangaskhan: Some COD decides to use it, or maybe Alexa does. It would be rather interesting if
Pinsir: My OC uses it. In all seriousness, I have no idea how this will be done

Y may be retconned to have been invented by Team Flare. The two team up and have some epic adventures. Or they just retcon things again and introduce Pokemon Origins Mewtwo
Latias/Latios: Brendan officially appears, as a super awesome trainer who's Tobias done right

If that is the case; then it is most likely that she'll get a pokemon that has a mega evolution form, or Nintendo will reveal a pokemon she has having a Mega Evolution (my money is on Dragonite)

All the main girls get new pokemon or evolutions after they leave the show, its no different than May's Venusaur/Wartortle/Blaziken, Dawn's Quilava, or Iris getting her own Gible.

Perhaps if Iris re-appears she'll have Garchomp, giving her an excuse to have a Mega Garchomp when she re-appears.

I pray that she doesn't showcase Mega Garchomp; she was already crucified for having a fully-evolved pseudo-Legendary before Ash and she'd get even more flack for having a second one. :c
