This is the Team I was using Back in the days of R/S/E and I was wonder how it has held up to if at all to the competitive teams two gens. later. I have had to change some of their original moves to make an attempt at playing with this team again in competitions.
Swampert (M) @ Rindo Berry
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 126 Def / 128 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Avalanche
- Hammer Arm
Swampert has improved greatly from his days in R/S/E having now both a physical water STAB and ice move. STAB Earthquake is the main threat that a Swampert can posses, Waterfall is Swampert's new STAB Physical water move. Avalanche makes a nice combo with Hammer Arm's speed lowering effect making it an almost certain that Avalanche will receive is double power boost.
Gardevoir (F) @ Light Clay
Trait: Trace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Reflect
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
Gardevoir really has had it rough in life... Anyways Calm Mind allows Gardevoir to hit harder and allows her to take more Sp Atks. Reflect boosted with Light Clay give my whole team double Defense for eight turns. With wide lens Hypnosis is at a nicer 70% accuracy. Thunderbolt and Psychic are the more reliable moves that come with less power. Psychic gets STAB, and Thunderbolt covers Psychics offensive holes nicely.
Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Roost
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Pulse
So far Salamence has been a beast ever since he was introduced into the game. I went with a Special attacker to prevent my team from being walled, Roost recovers HP and lowers my ice weakness to double for one turn. Draco Meteor is Salamence's strongest move, Dragon Pulse is a more Reliable STAB that doesn't lower my stats. Fire Blast deals with Ice and Steel types that can threaten Salamence ability to sweep.
Hariyama (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- ThunderPunch
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
Toxic orb Activates Guts and increases Hariyama's attack. Close Combat is the strongest hitting STAB move Hariyama can get. Fire, Ice and Thunder Punch is Hariyama's BoltBeam plus fire combo attack that gets perfect coverage.
Sharpedo (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang
- Protect
My old speed freak now has access to speed boost. Crunch and Waterfall are Sharpedo's STAB attacks. Ice fang deals with his grass weakness and Protects gives Sharpedo a free speed boost so he can start sweeping at full health.
Dusclops (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 126 Def / 132 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Pain Split
- Night Shade
This Wall seems to only have gotten better with time. Eviolite give Dusclops a 1.5 boost to his already crazy defenses. Will-O-Wisp inflicts burn which helps his walling abilities. Curse and Pain Split make an excellent combo,Taunt stops my opponent from healing, setting up entry hazards, and bulking themselves up to try and finish Dusclops off. Pain Split is the closes thing to a reliable recovery Dusclops gets and an added bonus is that it heal me and damages my opponent at the same time. Night shade bypasses Dusclop's lousy attack stats and deals solid damage to my foe.
Since this team is really old please feel free to suggest any new Pokemon to replace them. The suggested Pokemon Do not have to be from R/S/E, they can be from any game. I posted this team to see how well it could do after a two generation absence, So please tell me any ideas of problem you find with it.
