they can't bring back character customization or the PSS

then the games would be compatible with XY, and that would ruin my nostalgia

So then we'll need to have some in game clarification on how we can connect with kalos

We really don't. BW2 takes place 2 years after BW1 and yet they don't even try to explain why you can trade between the 2 with no issue.

Yeah, those were all pretty bad, Agatha should have just been a Poison type specialist. I suppose it can be argued that Hoenn should have added more Ghost and Ice types to the regional dex because the options existed, or just used different types for the E4, but too late for that now. I'd love to see them expand the dex and fix those repeats now that they have the opportunity (at least Dusknoir and Froslass if nothing else), but who knows how close to the originals they want to be this time around? But as stated above, it would certainly be odd if they went from ~450 in a regional dex to 200.

They added a lot of Dark-type Pokemon in Gen III, thinking about it. Sydney had plenty of choice for Pokemon for his roster, but I guess the new Dark-typing was pretty scarce in Gen II and needed some bulking out.

I am split both ways. I want the nostalgia of having the original and completing the Hoenn Dex, but also the versatility of options to use in an expanded Dex. I recognise the demographic is changing, and with new people by the day getting into the games, nostalgia plays less of a part. Even just adding a few Pokemon that will bulk out the deficient types might be a bit of a medium, but not so much that there is a swathe of foreign Pokemon in Hoenn.

It depends on the post-game content too. If there is little, then I would prefer a bigger Dex to compensate. If there is a lot, then I don't suppose it would matter too much.

This would be the first time that the most recent game is set in the past from another game in the same generation.

Although, BW and B2W2 could trade directly and they didn't even mention the time capsule, so...

What do you think about character customization? In my opinion, I think they'll only bring it back if the PSS comes back with it, as that was the reason for making it a thing in the first place.

There is no way in hell they're ever getting rid of the PSS unless they plan on replacing it with something better.

Nostalgia, Schmostalgia. These games aren't really made for the older people who played them the first time around, they're more to cater to the kids who didn't grow up with them.

that is very true. However that's only two years. This is 7 years difference

I don't think Gamefreak doesn't care about the timeline. The time capsule was only needed to trade between gen 1( gameboy) and Gen 2( Gameboy color). With both XY and ORAS on the 3ds, I foresee no connectivity issues.

So? It's still a time difference that they didn't bother acknowledging or justifying.

It's an interesting thought. I mean sure more then likely they'll just ignore it. However it would be interesting if they did

Phoebe had 2 Banette and 2 Dusclops
Glacia had 2 Glalie and 2 Sealeo
Drak had 2 Flygon

I get the complaints about gen 5 & 6 only having 4 pokemon normally for their e4, but at least they were all different.
Same applies to rs' leader rosters. Why did Flannery need 2 slugma? Norman, 2 slaking?

Though I guess in fairness its not like they had other options but that didn't stop Agatha & Lorelei from having things like gengar & slowbro. Why not give Glacia a castform for synergy with her hail stuff? Or Phoebe a Chimecho, its kinda ghostly and its from my pyre. Or just not have a ghost & ice e4 at all

With Flannery, the Camerupt line was seen as Team Magma's I think, so Slugma and Torkoal were the only viable candidates left.
Norman, 2 Slakings was pretty tough going, and I enjoyed the challenge but it did seem a bit unnecessary as the variety of choice as you say, and also that Slaking is supposed to be Norman's "signature Pokemon", having 2 sort of ruins the effect.

I don't mind the fact that Gym Leaders and Elite 4 Members having Pokemon that aren't of the right type, as long as they stuck with the flavour. but I understand Lorelei's Slowbro, and I do get Karen's Vileplume and Gengar too. Agatha was pushing it when all of her Pokemon were Poison anyway, Volkner's Ambipom and Flint's Steelix were outright ridiculous.

Phoebe only had Shedinja as an alternative, which is just gimmicky and not viable for an e4 candidate, Drake had Kingdra which he used in Emerald, but Glacia didn't have much choice to be honest. They perhaps should have thought a bit more about the used Dex, or the E4 types, but hey, I'm not a gamemaker and I don't know how their thought process was so I shouldn't be moaning (though it was quite an odd excision, as especially as every single one of those types had been in the E4 before then). I quite like the idea of a Phoebe having a Chimecho, especially when she has a few links to Mt Pyre as well. Which makes me wonder whether the E4 will get a bit of backstory and perhaps play a function in the game this time round?

Hm. Perhaps Flannery could have a drought Ninetails now? I mean ninetails WAS in the dex....albeit it was sort of lack luster back then but it still was a fire type. Infact perhaps she should have had a macargo instead of one of her slugmas or maybe even a combusken? Gen 3 needed better fire types man.

What I am really hoping for is that they Give Roxxanne a different set of pokemon then just Gedodude,Geodude, Nosepass. I mean she is in the town where they revive fossils, so why not give her a lilieep and anorith? Not the best options but they would make it a smidge more challenging than just spamming a grass type/water move. But tis but a dream.

No we wont. I don't understand why people seem to think the Pokemon timeline matters at all. We will just be able to trade, there's no reason to explain it.

Because some people find it interesting and like to discuss it in detail, and it's an aspect of the universe that can have an effect on things.

I don't care about things like the game code and the interior workings and whatnot but I understand that they interest other people.

Exactly the point! ORAS is very interesting in this aspect since it will now fall into two generations

Simple, if Back(2) and White(2) can trade into a parallel universe, then XY and ORAS can trade through time.

And really, trading through time is no issue. It just means that the Pokémon being sent back is crossing its own timeline for a period of time, and the younger version will eventually be caught and traded back into the past, where it will exist alongside its younger self, which will eventually be caught and sent back into the past...

Anyway, it's just a stable time loop, like the Celebi event in HGSS. Giovanni didn't respond to Neo Rocket's message because your future self was brought back in time by a Celebi to stop him.

For the sake of conversation what do people think of these:

(Where current Mega Stones could be found, long list)

Kanto Starters: Show an NPC Charizard/Blastoise/Venusaur
Alakazam: Mirage Island (However if that is unreasonable the Trick Master House)
Gengar: Route 123
Kangaskhan: Rustburo City
Pinsir/Heracross: Safari Zone
Gyarados: Abandoned Ship
Aerodactyl: Under the ocean somewhere (Dive)
Mewtwo: SS Tidal (Make them appear to be brought from another region)
Ampharos: Route 134
Scizor: Petalburg Woods
Houndoom/Manetric: New Mauville
Blaziken: Professor Birch
Gardevoir: Mossdeep City (Space station)
Mawile: Meteor Falls
Aggron/Tyranitar: Dewford Cave
Medicham: Cave of Origin
Banette: Mt. Pyre
Absol: Battle Frontier
Latias/Latios: Mossdeep City (Steven's House)
Garchomp: Victory road
Abomasnow: Shoal Cave
Lucario: Sky Pillar

and do you guys think the version exclusives will stay the same? Which will go in which?

Also will finding Mega Stones be restricted to a certain time frame again, and by what e.g., the Anistar Sundial.

Lastly, how much of an impact do you think Mega Stones will have on the games compared to X&Y.

And really, trading through time is no issue. It just means that the Pokémon being sent back is crossing its own timeline for a period of time, and the younger version will eventually be caught and traded back into the past, where it will exist alongside its younger self, which will eventually be caught and sent back into the past...

This confused me so much.
