About the Bellemere dungeon thing, I'm guessing she just died eventually in there. By Arlong or hunger or something.

The problem with the dub is that we aren't meant to assume that she died in the dungeon sometime in the eight years between that event and the time the Straw Hat Pirates arrive at Arlong Park. If she had died in the dungeon, Nojiko would have said so after the flashback (especially since they left in the scene of Nami looking over Bellemere's grave an episode or two ago).

Originally, Bellemere got shot by Arlong and killed. In the dub, Arlong pointed his finger to her and sent her to the dungeon. No matter how much you try to defend the dub, the truth of the matter is that they eliminated the death of a major character's mother, which is unforgivable.

At least Bellemere's still dead though.

In the dub, she's still alive. What do you want to bet that 4Kids edits in scenes of Bellemere into the end of the arc to keep up the illusion that she's still living?

Reminds me of one cover up in Digimon where Vamdemon kills Pumpmon and Gotsumon for them helping out Yamato and Takeru. Whereas in the dub, Myotismon sends his bats after them and banishes them to his dungeon. Then there were instances where the boys would reflect on their death and would promise to avenge them, while the dub mentioned that they'd free them somehow. Funny how the dub made no mention of them in a dungeon ever again.

Really, the only problem I have is Sanji and Usopp's voices... Usopp, I can deal with but SANJI I CAN'T! I thought his voice would be somehwat graceful or something. AND THEY CUT OUT MY FAVORITE LINE IN THE BARATIE ARC!
I loved when Fullbody said "What's this fly doing in my soup?" then Sanji said "Excuse me sir, it's hard to tell, but it appears to be doing the backstroke!"
I also really love Luffy's laugh!
Yuh-huh-huh-hoyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

She's dead man. They stated in a earlier episode. Twice I might add. I doubt they are going to turn that Bellemere ghost thing in the end of the arc into the real Bellemere. The dub arc is still not done so they might reveal how she died. But one thing to know is that she is defantly dead in the dub. They showed her grave for goodness sake! If you don't want to belive me because you hate the dub then that's fine. But they clearly said she died in the dub. She may have died diffrently... But she still died.

Big problem there. Dying in a dungeon can occur in multiple ways and can take long, such as starvation or sickness. Being killed on the spot is a much quicker process. Considering the fact in time is an issue in this, it'd take weeks for normal causes of death in a dungeon. I highly doubt the episode took place in weeks.

Heh! You think 4Kids is concious about reality? Nope! They just needed Bellemere to die alot less violently so they sent her to the dungeon in which she died of some kind of cause. It could've been hunger, depression, or Arlong could've killed her eventually in the dungeon. I know NONE of these were stated in the dub, but I think it's safe to assume that she still dead.

Hm, which is more violent? Being tortured and slowly dying or being quickly shot? These Dubs are getting really stupid on the 'this one's less violent' thing... -_-

You mean the grave that turned from a wooden cross to a stone tablet depending on the shot?

Consistency is not 4Kids' strong suit. They probably just forgot that they included that scene a few weeks ago when they decided not to kill Bellemere. Yes, I HAVE THAT LITTLE FAITH IN THEM.

I don't think I'm being too overcritical of the dub at all. I'm not blind to the good points about the dub. They keep all the original names, and some of the VA's are good (Zolo, Hatchi, and a few others). They've kept in some surprisingly violent things, like Shanks getting his arm bitten off and Zoro getting stabbed by Buggy. The music, based on its own merits (and not on the fact that "OMG ThEY replassed the Japanees muzak 4Kid$ is EviLL!!!!!1!1!"), is actually very well done.

But with the One Piece dub, the bad far outweighs the good. After last Saturday's episode, the dub is pretty much a lost cause for me. The company has gone out of its way to suck anything that made this show better than your average shonen and has turned one of the best animated series to come out of Japan into another generic action show.

Yeah I know 4Kids is'nt consistant with small things like voices or edits, but when something is as important as Bellemere's death, ESPECIALY when they already stated it, I just don't see them trying to change that. Maybe if they did'nt state if she died in an earlier epsode I'd belive you, But since they did...

Didn't stop them from changing Myuutwo's entire purpose in the first Pocket Monsters movie. Or the background story to movie five.

Can't forget the massive amounts of death avoidance on Yu-Gi-Oh! or shall I say..the "Shadow Realm?"

They said that Brock's mom died in the fifth episode of Pokemon. Yet in the episode description given to us by one of the 4Kids employees, the woman in "The Family That Battles Together Stays Together" is going to be Brock's mom.

Back to One Piece: they changed the whole "Nami stabbing Usopp" scene, yet they left the bandages on Nami's hand. If Nami didn't stab her own hand with her own knife, then why is her hand suddenly wrapped up like that?

Well about the bandages. That's easy to get around, at least with little kids. They can just think it's those fighting wrist band things. That's why I THINK 4Kids left it, cause they thought the kiddies would think that so they don't have to edit every scene that has her hand. I know that's stupid but I thinik that's what they were thinking. Now with Bellemere even little kids would catch notice of the mistake because after all, being dead is a big thing, and if they already stated it and di'nt lisen and made her alive anyways everyone is going to be confused. Bellemere dead is a key point of the Arlong arc, and if they already said shes dead, why change it?

Or even better in DBZ..."The Next Dimension!"

"Time to send you to...the next dimension!"
"Maybe you won't be a disappointment in...the next dimension!"
"See ya, that is, if I ever go to...the next dimension!"

Dragon Ball Z was dubbed by FUNimation and Saban at that time. Not 4Kids. FUNimation then soloed the rest of DBZ.

lol, I know DBZ wasn't done by 4Kids obviously, I was just bringing up the point of death being changed to another "location" on multiple occasions from different anime series.

Chris

Good thought, problem is that it doesn't exactly work in comparison considering both are dubbed by different companies. :p

Well, technically people in DBZ do go to another location when they die (and it is another dimension, as it happens...), so they weren't THAT far off...

I love One Piece! It is such a great anime!:D

I watched the German version of it, so I really don't know, what kind of dubbing 4kids made... But at least I've seen it more or less uncut all the way to episode 140!

Anyway, I saw somewhere, that the new Japanese arc [SPOIL](Water 7)[/SPOIL] might be loaded with some filler or the anime may take a break, since the anime is catching up very fast to the manga. Is it true?
