Well about the bandages. That's easy to get around, at least with little kids. They can just think it's those fighting wrist band things. That's why I THINK 4Kids left it, cause they thought the kiddies would think that so they don't have to edit every scene that has her hand. I know that's stupid but I thinik that's what they were thinking.

OK, then, in the episode that aired this week, the scene with Nami stabbing herself in the arm was cut (understandably). Yet they're leaving the bandage on around her arm from when she stabbed herself. So in the dub, Nami's suddenly gains this new bandage without any explanation. Don't even try to explain that away by saying she's wearing some sort of shoulder support thing.

And then there's the scene where they forgot to edit the smoke coming out of Sanji's cigarette.

4Kids is inconsistent and downright sloppy with their editing, especially in One Piece.

Now with Bellemere even little kids would catch notice of the mistake because after all, being dead is a big thing, and if they already stated it and di'nt lisen and made her alive anyways everyone is going to be confused.

Unless they missed the episode that aired the previous week.

Bellemere dead is a key point of the Arlong arc, and if they already said shes dead, why change it?

Because it's 4Kids. With the One Piece dub, logic almost never prevails.

Well, about the shoulder thing. In the next coulple of episodes, Nami wraps the thing around her shoulder. They can easly make Nami say " I don't wanna see this mark again until I remove it, so I'll cover it with this until then!" Yeah it sounds stupid, but little kids would proboally belive it and that's all 4Kids really wants to do.


By the way the last episode was dubbed preety good, one of the best, even though they took out the stabbing scene (What company WON'T take that scene out. VERY VIOLENT!) But at least they left in Nojiko getting shot by Nezumi's gun. (Which was edited to be green but still a gun.) They even left in the blood on the money! Ahhh.. If only more episodes can turn out like this one.

Oh they're up to the Arlong saga part...
Oh yeah, you could have imagine they'd mess up that whole scene, when Nami cuts her arm to take off the tattoo with the Arlong crew mark...
4Kids would have never left that scene... but I'm surprised, from what you're saying, that they left blood visible...
Quite amazing... and inconsistent of course.

and what was the point of having Arlong always call humans "P.U.mans" and hating them becuase they smell? The whole "P.U.mans" is not in the original JP version... plus, what the hell was 4kids thinking? Last time I checked, fish smelled worse than humans... I guess I'm lucky for living in Hungary. There are less anime there, but properly dubbed (although, see Digimon topic for a con) and not that edited.
Anyway, Inuyasha still has loads a blood by us, even though it airs at 9 AM (in Hungary, that is). Yay.

I get to see the Italian dub (think I've mentioned it already...) it's a bit edited but not as much as the US version for sure... what is edited, if you can call them real edits are the goriest parts which are turned black and white, for the rest, scenes and dialogues are relatively truthful to the originals.

I LIKE the One Piece dub, its well translated for the audience their dubbing for. Remember some people faint at the sight of blood, 4kids don't want their veiwers fainting when they should be enjoying the show.

sure they changed it to make it "enjoyable" for the target audience but the qustion is...is it right to change a show that much? Their only goal is earning money ( like every TV station, I know, but they just want to make the show fit to show it to little children so that they can buy their mechanrdise..-.-).
WHat if they decide to make animes like Detective Conan child-friends..? "who knocked the poor woman out? who is the bad man who hurted her?" and kogoro would eat lolis all the time...
Or the change "Die Hard" into "Party Hard" where a group of bad men atack everyone with water-pistols? damn...the worst thing on the changes aren´t the blood edits..the characters lost all their glitter...

Probably you're right, but One Piece isn't that bloody (compared to like...Inuyasha). Besides, I think it just natural, that after a battle to death, the opponents at least bleed. That's just more realistic. -_-
I don't think it would be a huge fan loss for One Piece, if they'd show the red liquid.

You're right TeddiUrsa. The manga itself wasn't made for little kids (or at least those, who can't take violence), afterall, so I don't think it's correct to try to change that.

It's simply an axiom, that Detective Conan=violent scenes. That's what it's all about.

Actually, I don't find it amusing, that they want to make a comic relief of Arlong and smells. Eichiro Oda didn't make Arlong a character of that kind.
That's what guys like Mr. 7, Ms. Father's Day, [SPOIL]Wanze, T-Bone[/SPOIL] etc. are for.

And as you can see from all the blasted cuts and edits, it certainly ain't translated properly. How the hell do you go about changing a military group into another and then give them SUPER SOAKERS? I seriously wouldn't trust my life in the hands of a military group that uses water guns as weapons.

Unlike Pokémon's dub, One Piece has been tarnished like hell by 4Kids.

Well I don't know about fainting to fake blood, but I know that yes the Marines/Navy's guns were changed to super soakers, but they still shoot bullets. But ussually when the gun is not a rifle they just re-color it (Like what they did to the recent episode when Nojiko got shot by Nezumi.) But I guess if you can't tell if editing has been done, then it's not as apparent as everyone makes it out to be.
