One Song = Dem Feelz

Is there any one music in any game that gives you the butterflies and just hits you right in the feels? Is there a song that when you hear, you instantly recall a moment in your life, playing that game when you were younger and start feeling emotional?

For me, it would have to be "Eyes On Me", from Final Fantasy VIII

There's actually two versions of this. One without vocals, one with. However both are still excellent. This plays in just a few key parts of the story, and telling you where would be spoiling the surprise. But nevertheless, whenever I hear this song, it just makes me feel emotional. It's been sung before by many other vocalists in the Final Fantasy live tours, but I still think the original sang by Faye Wong was and still is the best.

You guys have one?

Of course I do! And I actually got into playing it again and it sent chills up my spine.
It's from a game called Fur Fighters (unfortunately not all that known) for the PS2. There was a lot of my young tween hours spent on that game.

And this song. . .
This one right here.

Makes me remember that whole time period. Wish I could relive it. There's of course others, but this is just the most recent and relevant.

For me, it is hands down the Relic Forest theme from Pokemon Colosseum and XD, I loved those games a lot and was very good at them.

For those who haven't heard the theme, here it is.

Surprisingly, "To Zanarkand", from FFX, is one, despite the fact I hate this game, haha!

But I have a lot, though. Labyrinth's Zone theme, from Sonic the Hedgehog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDZW--PA814
I ALWAYS feels something when this one plays! I feel like dancing, crying, shouting, kicking some guys on their butts, and a lot of things. I hate this level, and, for some odd reason, whenever I hate a certain game/level, I always end up adoring its OST.

This one, from Earthbound, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7S0aQEfUX4
It's those sort of songs that not only brings you nostalgic feelings, but purest memories on your mind, only. This one always brings me good things, when I first played this game and almost cried when I listened to this whole song.

However, although those both above gives me exact feelings, this one sums it up all:

The first time I ever cried when playing a game, were with this music. The first time I noticed what is nostalgia, were with this music. The first time I felt bad for finishing a game, were with this music. I wonder if I'll listen to this music when I'll have first son, but 'kay. This music is the song of my life when it comes to game OST, obviously. Is it capable to give me the chills, bringing tears when I'm happy, a lot of memories from when I was younger.

The first one to gives me this feeling of nostalgia, though, were this one, since the first game I played were Sonic the Hedgehog 2:

Kimi no Kioku (Memories of You) - Persona 3. This song, man. Played at the end of Persona 3, the songs lyrics perfectly tell the players what I believe the game is about, about being there for other people, about being who you are and really caring for others and cherishing the bonds you've made. The vocals are really nice and the song is played in part instrumentally throughout the game which makes it that much more emotional to hear it at the end, as a nice pat on the back for going through the game, which is a very long game might I add. Gah, I could go on and on about why I love the game.

Little Busters! - Little Busters!. I'm not sure if this is really the place for this because it's a japanese visual novel but I may as well go ahead anyway. I love Little Busters, it's the only fictional content to date that has made me flat out cry. By this I mean more than having a single tear drop. I was sobbing uncontrollably during Refrain, the 'true ending' if you will. I'd like to go into more detail but it would really fall om deaf ears to people who aren't familiar with Visual Novels and anime in general.

I guess in terms of nostalgia, hearing this theme from the second Harry Potter game always brings back very fond memories of my childhood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEgLvaMDT4E

If we're talking emotions beside nostalgia though, I suppose the music which played in the scene before the final battle in Okami was the closest I've ever come to feeling properly emotional when playing a game.

I'm gonna have to add "Never More" by Shiroku Hirata, from Persona 4. Such a great song. Made me extremely sad that I was done with the story, which meant I was done with the cast. It took me 2 playthroughs for the platinum trophy, but it was so worth it. I hope in P5, we get to visit Inaba. We might even see Rise again especially now that she's back as an idol.

Another one would have to be "Kimi Ga Iru Kara", or "Because You are Here" by Sayuri Sugawara, from Final Fantasy XIII. I was really excited when the Japanese trailers were up. It had been 4 years since FFXII, Japan was finally getting the game in December, and the west in March 2010. I just personally thought the music fit perfectly with the scenes happening in the trailers. I think the song was even used in the western trailers for the game. Sadly, we got "My Hands" by Leona Lewis in the west instead.

Of course, since Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster just came out a month ago, I would have to point to "Suteki Da Ne", or "Isn't It Beautiful" by RIKKI, from Final Fantasy X. Just a beautiful private moment between Tidus and Yuna. It makes it feel more special considering the events that happened in just the morning before this scene happened. Powerful and emotional stuff.
