Online Play with Diamond and Pearl

I've noticed a distinct lack of interest in what could be the most incredible thing to grace Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

What sort of features do you think they will include with online play AND what are you looking forward to with online play?

I for one am actually really looking forward to just be able to trade with people really easily and without the embarassment of having to find another person with the rarity of liking Pokemon.

But I also think there will be new ideas as well? What dyall think?

I've made a mention of this in my posts. :<

I'm hoping for the standard features of trading and battling, but as I said in another thread I would like to see contests expanded for this online play as well, forming tournaments for incredibly lucrative prizes. Whoever wins the tournament will probably get a Master Ball or two, a Lucky Egg or two, or a ticket of some sort. In addition to the contests seeing a much-needed expansion into this new world of online play, I would find it grand to see a market established by the players, whereby one could sell items and (if it is not too immoral by the game's standards) Pokemon to other people. The market would dictate the prices, but you can set any price for these items.

how do u know where a hot spot is?
if u have a Wi-Fi connection at home could u trade in the union room then?

Kinda un-related but I hope there are In-Game NPCs that will trade pokemon back and forth with you. So that you don't need a friend to evolve your trade-evolution pokemon... that always annoyed me.

Yes...The Nintendo Wi Fi Connection means that wherever you can access the Internet Wirelessly, you can connect

Also, you can buy a USB connector for a Windows XP computer with internet, makes an instant hot spot for DS!

And also, there were In-Game NPCs in R/S, such as the ones with the Seedot for Ralts, and Bagon for Horsea!

Well, that's one of my points. You could trade with anyone in the world who had D/P, a DS and an internet connection. And THAT'S everyone.

Nothing more? I would find it a bit preposterous if they squandered such a grand opportunity, but hey, Nintendo does it sometimes. :<

And Nicki, I'm sure that regardless of what they implement they will include some sort of safeguard against Pokemon/items obtained by cheats. Colosseum and XD already have these measures; they shouldn't be too hard to implement on the DS.

bolded phrase is impossibler, since theres no difference in a cheated pokemon and a real pokemon except how you got it, it has the same exact values to the game, and the onlyt ones that could be filtered are mew and deoxys do to their obedience bit, BUT hackers have found a way around that too, making it not able to catch cheating.

sorry just had to point this out.

now on topic: I'd like to see secret bases come back and be able to be uploaded to an online service to automatically download at random to someone who coems online.

I'd like to see a feature that makes it so when someone goes into the Union Room, it tells you. (It could be in Options.) That way we won't have to spend countless hours posting on forums because you want someone to trade with you.

Obviously trading and battling. Maybe they could do some online tournament thing similar to the battle dome. An idea I had would be to have one city that has a complete online area to it, with an expansive network of trading, battling, etc.

Well, with online there are a lot of possibilities. First, what if you could have an e-mail service? If you have a My Nintendo account, you could actually have an e-mail system. Each time you connect to a hotspot, My Nintendo downloads e-mails from its database for your account to your game and uploads any messages you have in que to be sent. It then sends them.

You could have images too, and use them as box images. You could have music, which would be uploaded to your Pokégear. These could be sent and recieved as attatchments.

Of course, you'd recieve e-mails from NPCs too, but just an added service I wouldn't mind...

I think there should be high-stakes online tournaments where you can win rare items. However, to enter, one requires several hundred-thousand pokedollers. That'd be pretty cool... but I doubt it'll happen.

wouldn't there be problems with language barriers, like if you connected with a japanese person over the wi-fi connection, would your ds be able to cope with their japanese language and vis versa?

I doubt that there will be online trades as things may be hard to handle, for example:

-Scamming (saying you just need a pokemon for your dex and will trade it back, but you don't)

-Disconnecting - someone may try to force a glitch during the trade

-Technical difficulties - kinda like disconnecting, but the trade is interupted because of technical difficulties

-Cheated pokemon
