Opinions on Haruka

Kinda curious becuz i have went places where this character would end up on a stake accused of being a witch. what does everyone think about may.

(personally, i think she's cute.)

We know your obvious dislike for Misty.

And that's because the Misty fans just stay in Clubs and Shipping mainly. I can say the same for some other May fans too though, but nevermind.

Haruka's a decent character. Too bad she ditched Beautifly and Skitty, the two of her Pokemon I liked the most, followed up by Blaziken.

I like watching her contests. They help to break up the fillers and yank Ash from the spotlight now and then.

who is haruka?
if she's may, then i like her style of battling...
besides, if it wasn't for her, and misty left...
wouldn't ash be travelling alone and steal all the glory of being humilliated as a bad trainer...

no offense, ASH.

I didn't like May. She was too blah and bland. Hardly any personality. Misty was good personality. Dawn is good personality with her chipper and uppity self.

Izit cuz I is black?
May had a ton of personality. For one thing she spent the first 15 episodes still deciding on what she wanted to do with her journey because at first she hated pokemon. She had an interesting relationship with Drew and the other co-ordinators and of course with her pokemon partners. She was great, and I certainly miss her presence.

How do any of those things show that May has a personality? Saying "she interacts a lot with characters X Y Z" doesn't tell you anything about her.

In way, though, to be fair it kind of does. You have to look at the ways a characters interacts with other characters sometimes to see how they are :/ A character who doesn't talk to anyone, after all, is a very stale character.

Well sure, smart writers reveal things about characters through their interactions with other characters. But merely stating that May had a finding-her-goal arc and that she has rivals isn't proof or even evidence that she has "tons of personality". I'm not so much disagreeing that May has a personality as pointing out that that's a bad argument. ^^;

...Although actually, I don't think that May's decision to be a co-ordinator (which was a crap arc, really badly handled; removed May's most interesting trait in one fell swoop and didn't even develop her character in the process) or her rivalries told us anything new about her personality. We learned plenty about Harley and Drew, but not May. May was just reacting to them the entire way through AG. The Hoenn Grand Festival may be the one exception; there, Drew/Harley were used to illuminate her main flaw of being too credulous (the HGF had some of the better characterisation of the series, IMO).

edit: *snort* Misty and May are roughly equal in the popularity stakes, and even if they weren't, only sad fanboys care. Polls conducted in the last couple of years are an unreliable measure because there will be a natural bias towards whichever characters are on the cast/were most recently on the cast at the time. For example, Dawn got more votes than May in the most recent poll about them. A lot of fans stopped watching after Misty left because they preferred her and thought the show had jumped the shark in writing her off. Now start an "opinions on Kasumi" thread if you want to talk about her.

It is a bad argument, but...XD; *shrug* Though with May it WAS the first time someone other than Ash had full-on rivalries. I can see where someone would mistake a first for a show of personality.

I don't think Misty, May OR Dawn have more personality than one another. They all have the same amount, just different kinds.

Yeah, ok!
Hm, I'd respond to Jo-Jo, but as far as I know I'm on her ignore list, so I'll save my breath.

This has nothing to do with Misty. Leave her out of it. I like May, she just gets irritating sometimes.

OK, I apologize, I was just pointing out that that poll had 103 people voting for May currently, which shows to the original maker of this thread that she was well-liked.

May was and is well liked, and I found her most charming trait to be her determination. That girl never gave up! She was also very cute at times.

I love Haruka. She is my favorite character right next to Kasumi.

She is a adorable and sweet. And she never gives up, and thats what I love. I liked her more at the beginning when she was clueless and didn't like Pokemon. I found her much more entertaining when she had those ditsy moments. But she was still awesome in later Hoenn/BF.

She had awesome interactions with her rivals. Her rivals were great too, especially Harley. And her little love relationship with Shuu. : D She brought awesome things to the show. Contests are great, and I enjoy them much more than gyms. And its so much better seeing a girl as a star every other epiosde.

So yes. I love Haruka a lot, and thought she was one of the best characters on the show. Her fanboys can ticked me off easily, but so do fangirls of Satoshi/Shuu. So yes. xD

She was a great character at the begining, when she had all those fun quirks and frequent outbursts of emotion (during the contests and otherwise). Then she grew progessively dull as her character 'matured', with her only saving grace being the interaction she got with Harley and Shuu, and those good ol' Grande Festibals.
She should have interacted with the other characters in the group more, and again, as the series went on, things sort of derailed to a point where you had to wonder why the hell she was travelling with Ash anyway. The most she seemed to get was the occassional scene with Masato, and even those were pretty hard to come by.

But she had...sorry, has a Combusken, which as everyone knows, is the BEST pokémon EVER. I mean, you don't diss a gal with a Combusken. Because Combusken is the best pokémon ever. The BEST ever, to be precise. Man oh man, was that Combusken the best. Ever.

Best ever.

The Combusken, that is.

I thought May was a pretty good character, she had character devolpment and personality. I loved her interacting with Drew and I think she went from a naive girl that dislikes Pokemon to a pretty creative coordinater. I wish the writers did the same for Misty back in Johto.

The only thing I disliked was that May had to leave right after Combusken evolved. I love Blaziken.
