Order of Gym Battles

What if instead of having to go through the game with the gym battles in order(e.g. Pewter, Cerulean, Vermillian) we could beat them in what ever order we wanted to. Say your at your first gym battle, well all of the gyms would be the same level. So it would just be deciding what city you want to go to first. Then say you beat the first gym battle, the rest of the gyms would all the same levels but higher(around the same level as Cerulean, and all the other 2nd gym battles), and so on. I know this has flaws but if someone really thought it through they could figure something out.

Your thoughts?

No. I think that takes the fun out of exploring. Take R/B/Y for example; you needed Cut to go from Cerulean to Lavender (via that dark cave (forgotten name)).
