Overhyped D/P

SUBRICK

Hypnotize...
Do the new pictures of diamond and pearl look relatively cleaner than they did a few days ago? Or is it just my server? Because when I first saw the pictures, the first thing that came to mind was "Oh well, 6 more years till the next one." But now they are starting to grow on me...

I didn't like it because I had really high expectations for these games...but they actually look good. It was US that overhyped its graphics, the gameplay and everything else. I guess it was because it was on a new system. Do you feel like you had too high expectations for the game?

I'm the kind of person who never sets high expectations for the fear of being let down. So I didn't try to make D/P seem better than what we have now. That way when D/P come out better than our current generation, I'm not disappointed in what I see.

No.
I like the graphics for D/P. It has a lot more detail and makes a lot of new sprites that I thought might of been lost.

Samayowa

you amaze me.
The pictures were made clearer for one.
And two. The expectations should be high.
This is the next generation for one. and for two, it's on a new platform which gives broader oppourtunities.

Same here.

Not really. There was a time when I thought they were going to come up with something really innovative, but with all this ambiguity about the games in the last months you got the feeling that they're hesitating about showing it up, so I'm not disappionted, but not impressed, either.

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
I never really expected GameFreak to do anything new anyway, I've come to expect the rehashes that they call "new games."

This is the 4th version of Red/Blue with some added bells and whistles, there's no reason to expect something unique from a top selling franchise.

Personally my expectations were a little too high and still are. I want to see an even better overworld. The current screens are great but I'm still not satisfied enough to buy a whole new system. I have to see the final product first to make an intelligent judgement.

I wasn't expecting much in the way of innovation but still I was hoping that they would implement some neat type combos. I must say, though, that the graphics were a rather unexpected surprise; I didn't foresee them being so polished even at this stage of development.

Yet, I still want Manyula to have a good Special Attack.

We will always overhype it, even only slightly. The graphics are decent though, not disappointed with them, nor the player character designs. I'm still disappointed about the lack of "new" (not part of existing evo chains) Pokemon revealed. I want to know more about Buizeru, dammit!

Nothing to be done
On the contrary, I gave a sigh of relief when I saw the pictures. I was desperately hoping that they wouldn't try to implement a new style, that they would only marginally improve what had come before. Call me old-fashioned, but I actually wanted to see the same thing we've had for the last ten years. The mild 3D came at a surprise, but I was happy to see that it didn't interfere with the style at all.

Meh, it's not overhyped IMHO. With breaking ideas like 2D/3D Battles and a Pure Flying type, the games are not bad or overhyped, but actually quite good so far. I agree with Eszett on Manyula's SPATK, and I also hope the dark type will get a boost in SPATK also with new Dark pokes with higher SPATK

I saw, but they seemed a little dark, I would like it to be a little more with color. Sorry if I didn't see enough color, but still, it does seem like it is going to be good.

I think they could have done better on Munchlax but that's just my opinion. It just doesn't look right.o_O

For those that have high expectations, you need to remember that they can't simply release everything about the game in one awesome blow before the very release date. If they did that, we would have all have a very intense but short-lived hysteria, which would encourage few to buy the game. The candle that burns half as strong burns twice as long, and D/P must be kept burning until its release date if GF hopes for it to be successful at all.

Furthermore, know that what we do have stands to be altered. So what if Manyula gets Reversal? That may very well be a single unusable highlight of its movepool when its potential stats are taken into consideration. Just remember not to let your eyes fool you when you're receiving this new info or you'll get something out of it that GF never intended you to extract.

Saying that takes every little peice of fun out of speculating about the games. If you don't look and over annalyse every new peice of information released until the game is finally released, then what's the point of even looking at it in the first place?

Like Cybercubed said, this is Pokemon 4, an updated Red and Blue. Seriously though, how could you expect that much innovation this time around if it's compatable with the last generation? What would be the reason of transporting the level 100 Venusaur over to Diamond if they're just going to alter him to fit the new "style" of the games? Maybe 5th generation will look to change things, but for right now, it would be very difficult to properly incorperate the 3rd generation with the 4th unless they made as few alterations as possible.

What I'm saying is that the information we have now is neither intended to be complete nor thorough. We still have huge gaps of information concerning the Pokemon available in the game, what the region looks like, and what sidequests will be available in this game. Essentially, we have only about 4% of the information at best: what is indicated in this hand-selected 4% does not by any means reflect the generation as a whole. Heck, we already have people assuming we'll need to do the gym quest, which while logical has not been unveiled in any form whatsoever in the games.

I would agree with your sentiments more had we around 70% of the ostensible data on the game, but as of now we're barely scratching the surface even with this latest deluge of information.

Actually, that much has been confirmed by the Japanese web sites. I offer my translation:
The purpose of the game is divided between two objectives: Collecting all Pokémon that live in the region and completing the PokéDex; Raising Pokémon in aim to to emerge victorious in the Pokémon League, thus becoming Champion.
You may also be "surprised" to find out the following:
As the hero ventures with his collected Pokémon, many trainers appear. Such encounters and other occurrences await the hero in the quest. By means of Poké Balls, wild Pokémon can be captured. Although the flow of this game is the same as the old series, many strange Pokémon which did not ihabit the Kanto or Hoenn regions, appear in the Shinou region which serves as the stage of the games.
Even more appalling is this:
The Pokémon that appear throughout the adventure differ from the Diamond version to Pearl version. By performing a trade between two such versions, one can communicate with friends and family as a key to completing the PokéDex, as in the conventional games. Similarly, a battle can also be similarly held with another player.

Just remember not to let your eyes fool you when you're receiving this new info or you'll get something out of it that GF never intended you to extract.
One would tend to think that conclusions derived from the known by far exceed those reflecting only wishful thinking. Your claim that nothing can be known on the nature of the games, or else the games are bound to meet failure, seems to be indicative of lack of experience with past generations.
