Overlooked or Forgotten Pokemon V2

UltraGlitterCat

loves to trade pokemon
I think Shroomish is really cute but it had like one focus episode back in hoenn and it was a fairly forgettable Max episode. It's Evo is a good 'glass cannon' and I think breloom really benefits from Tera typing eliminating its 4x flying weakness. I've seen people bring breloom on raids which is cool and all but its previous form is often overlooked. I feel like people rush to evolve him and under appreciate its simplistic but nice beginning stage. He's just a little guy. :3

(there was a previous version of this thread which I did not realize was too old to bump. Sorry. )

I'd have to say Dewgong is a bit of a forgotten Pokemon. Being an Water/Ice from gen 1 it was already in a tough spot given the other water/ice Pokemon of Lapras and Cloyster (and later competition from things like Walrein, Arctovish and all the other water types that can use ice moves). Especially Lapras which was given away as a gift in the gen 1 and was largely stronger. Hopefully at some point it will get some sort of buff so it can stand out.

Primarina in the pokemon trading card game. It is one of those starters that i would love to see a big return as a Pokemon EX and create a modern deck for.

It has been years and years since it got a few GX cards. Then the pokemon company just ditched it compared to the other Alolan starters Decidueye and Incineroar. There are probably too many honorable mentions to count in the tcg world.

Another I'd mention as being overlooked is Golduck which is odd considering its a gen 1 pokemon, in most regional Pokédex and it's pre-evolution apparently being one of Junichi Masuda's favourite Pokémon and even nearly ended up being a mascot of lets go. However its pre-evolution tends to get more remembered more due to the anime but as Golduck is a bit forgotten in-game. Probably because it's a pure water type with ok stats that means it often gets overlooked due to the starter in a lot of cases or due to other water types which have a secondary type to fall back on or just have better stats. It is another like Dewgong that I'd like to see get something to make it stand out more.

Also Psyduck line is one of the first obscure guesses for how to get it in Kanto. You need Surf and a fishing rod and return to Cerulean city. Then you can get use a pond behind a house which is the only spot for a marketed pokemon. It's not as bad as the Game Corner exclusives.

Lumineon. To this day it has only been owned by one trainer in the anime, Zoey. It appeared for a contest performance and that’s it. The rest of its appearances are as a background prop. This is a gen 4 pokemon, mind you. There are other pokemon with few minor appearances or none at all, but they mostly belong to gen 8 and I think it’s because of how they decided to handle journey's writing in general, rather than forgetting about those specific species on purpose.

Edit: Spinda is forgotten as well. Similar situation, got a dedicated ep. in Advance Generation and then only appears in the background without any further mentions in universe. It is also largely irrelevant in the games.

To be fair, Spinda deserves to be forgotten. Nobody wants to spend hours and hours hunting for every single shiny pattern of Spinda.

With Lumineon i think part of the problem is that while sinnoh has limited type diversity one of the types its not lacking in is water. If it were used by Crasher Wake in his gym battles in games that would have helped it make an appearance but it wasn't and it being a single typed Pokémon tends to limit it in game to Water type specialists (and water is not exactly a limited type) and non specialists (which is would be easier if it had better stats). Plus in the anime being a fish that cannot battle on land easily that made it harder to write into episodes. I do think if it got something new (Eg. a regional form/evolution/mega etc) that would help it be less forgotten.

A lot of pokemon have a single theme episode. But Porygon is a very unique case, the episode it was in outright killed it from returning.
Even Porygon2 and Porygon-Z have never gotten a spotlight in the shows.

Yes and I think that at this point in time they should allow the Porygon line to appear again in the anime. I don’t think there will be any outrage about it, in fact fans want to see them, so I’m not sure what’s stopping them from writing them into one episode at least. When I read Porygon’s pokedex entries I see much potential for cool episodes with their particular gimmicks, they continue appearing in the games anyway, it’s silly to keep them shelved from the anime.

The biggest concern is the media talking about it if they find out. They didn't stay quiet for long when Ash was painted black on his face so he could look like a Passimian.
The world will never stop get over it with old blackface history. Several countries ended up not showing the episode.

If someone genuinely has managed to do that (considering there are apparently billions of possible combinations) then that's impressive but personally I wouldn't recommend it. I'd be ok with them taking the Pokemon go approach and just selecting 8-12 different variations of them and having those versions be the only ones moving forward. There were certain issues with Spinda in BDSP if I remember correctly and they can just say in lore that more forms exist (without making them all accessible). Spinda probably shouldn't be forgotten but it definitely needs a serious upgrade if they want to make it more memorable.
