*Jean Grey*
Night Triumphant
Human Sign-Up:
Name: Jannike "Janna" Mortensen
Age: 18 1/2 (Turns 19 later in the year, birthday is November 11, 1993.)
Gender: Female
Arcana: Death
Appearance: A tall young woman of Nordic heritage, Jannike stands at an imposing 6 feet, with long, hip-length light blonde hair and a pale complexion. Her eyes are a steely blue-gray, like a winter sky, framed with long lashes which are often darkened by black mascara, as she feels that her pale lashes do her no good in the looks department. Her right nostril is pierced with a silver hoop, her right ear has two piercings and her left ear has three piercings. She usually ties her long hair into a ponytail, her long, sideswept bangs sometimes covering her left eye. She usually wears dark eyeshadow. Her body is slim and lean, with long legs and big, amply-sized breasts that are often displayed in her outfits. She often wears black nail polish on her fingernails and on her lower back is a tattoo of a small black skull, easily seen as she often wears crop tops. Her teeth are slightly yellowed from her occasional smoking habit.
Jannike does not dress in a conventional way typical of a small town and often gets poked fun at because of this. It is easy to see that she is one to order online. For her, clothes she often sees around bores her and pastels disgust her. As such, she wears a lot of black, and does not mind showing skin. Her usual outfit consists of a tight, black leather button-up corset with silver cross-shaped buttons that comes to the bottom of her ribcage, exposing her stomach, a pleated black-and-red checkered mini skirt and black knee-high motorcycle boots with silver studs. Around her neck is a studded black choker, black leather fingerless gloves cover her hands and black studs decorate each of her ear piercings. As Jannike is old enough to drive, she rides her own motorcycle, a gift from her father on her eighteenth birthday. When doing so, she puts on a black leather biker jacket with a diagonal zip and silver spikes decorating the right shoulder.
Personality: Jannike may at first impression come off as slightly hostile. With her tendency to use crude language, her roughness and generally casual attitude about almost everything in life, she acts rather tomboyish compared to most girls, which can possibly be a turn-off to most guys. She is extraverted, rather loud for a girl, and quite the flirt, not only towards guys but also towards some girls, though she isn't very serious about the latter, which is why she could rub others the wrong way at times. Admitting that she is in love however, is difficult for her to spit out. The easiest way to find out? her constant denial. Jannike hardly thinks before she speaks and can be brash and very dismissive towards those who annoy her a lot (Especially the one kind of guy that turns her off: The Large Ham. She would never flirt with one for her own reasons.), despite her being reasonably nice to others most of the time. Though she almost always speaks her mind and does what she wants, she is however, mostly an even-tempered person who doesn't lose her standards of composure, well most of it...unless she's drunk. That's a different story.
One may think that Jannike was always this way, but she wasn't. When her mother died in childbirth along with her supposed-to-be younger brother when she was twelve, she was exactly the opposite. Jannike was once a troubled, withdrawn and even anti-social girl who refused to forget what had happened and allowed the event to affect whatever she did, even her judgment. She used to be lonely and only when she and her father moved to America did she stop dwelling on the past. The past used to affect Jannike all the time, and it took some time and the help of her father for her to get over it and move forward without guilt. Now, Jannike is not one who dwells on the past, but rather someone who looks forward at her own future without fear and lets life run its course, being who she wants to be and no longer allowing her ghosts to hold her back and take over her, though she could sometimes be a bit pessimistic about certain things, especially when it involves the lives of those she cares for.
Sometimes however, Jannike's past fears surface and sometimes trouble her to varying degrees, not when it involves herself, but when it involves those she cares about. Yes, despite her looks, she is an open, warm-hearted and accepting young woman who doesn't judge others and likes making friends. One just has to look past her image and see the good in her, and not judge her. While she can be rough and crude, she is also caring, protective and compassionate, looking out for her friends as much as she could. As she hardly dwells any longer, she is one who easily forgives and forgets, not being the type to bear grudges.
Jannike, being of legal age, drinks often, despite others' misgivings. This has the unfortunate side-effect of turning her into an "angry, violent drunk", which makes her difficult to deal with. Contrary to her crass, rough but friendly nature, this Jannike can be a bit scary and hilarious at the same time, depending on your point of view, and often has to be restrained. One must be careful not to bring up any alcoholic drink or show any alcoholic drink to her.
Jannike has an extremely dark taste when it comes to just about anything, including clothes, make-up, and even her taste in music preferring darkness, black and the macabre. As such, she refuses to own anything pink, yellow or anything she deems "diabetic". If you happen to be one of her unfortunate friends who enjoys wearing pink or pastels, expect her to persuade you into a makeover...a very drastic one.
As for Large Hams, it's not that she hates them, but she finds it more difficult to put up with them because they could be annoying. While she can definitely make friends with them with few problems, the males are definitely a turn-off to her in terms of the dating and flirting department. Large Ham guys are probably the only kinds of guys she doesn't hit on, especially if they're already insufferably "righteous". If the matter is friends only, she's perfectly fine, if a bit more irritable and blunt, but still generally nice, but she won't consider dating one.
History: Jannike Mortensen was born in Oslo and was raised there for the first thirteen years of her life. Life was good for the young girl at that time. Her cosmetic surgeon parents were wealthy, she lived comfortably and generally, life was easy enough for her. As a child, she had a bit of a naughty, troublesome streak, playing with her male schoolmates more often than with the girls, and often getting in trouble with her teachers. Her grades weren't the best, and she wasn't exactly the studious type, but she survived school pretty well and for her parents, that was all that mattered. For most of that time however, she was an only child and was rather lonely because of that. She wanted company besides her friends and her parents, and thus, told her mother that she would like a sibling. She was eleven at that time. Soon after, her mother announced that she was pregnant. This excited the young girl, who looked forward to playing with her new younger sibling, who was revealed to be a boy later on. The first seven months passed pretty quickly for Freya Mortensen without much problems. However, during the eighth month, her health took a turn for the worse. She weakened rapidly, her morning sickness got worse and she complained of pains and dizziness. Jannike and her father tried to help her the best they could, but it never seemed to get any better.
Already sick before giving birth, Freya died during labor due to excessive blood loss. This hit Jannike hard. She was twelve years old and lost her mother. There was however, still hope in her mind. She was going to have a little brother after all. She was wrong about that. After a while, she and her father were informed that the boy was a stillborn. This tore Jannike up almost entirely. In her mind, she knew that it was her idea, her urging that caused all this to happen. She was only twelve, and she was responsible for her mother's and brother's deaths. At the back of her young mind, she was a murderer. Ever since then, she started becoming withdrawn, moody and refused to talk to her friends, or almost anyone for the matter. The events of that night kept replaying in her mind, and she just couldn't get over her guilt. She ate very little, had no heart to study and just kept to herself. Stein Mortensen tried to help his daughter, with little change resulting. Jannike was haunted by what she felt was her mistake, despite her father trying to tell her otherwise, that it was not her fault at all.
A year passed and there was still very little change. Stein began to grow worried for his thirteen-year-old daughter. Something had to be done, and it had to be done quickly. After a few months, he made up his mind. Norway wasn't good for Jannike any longer and it wasn't doing him any good either. Maybe it was time for a change of environment for the both of them, he thought. A month later, they moved to America, where Stein decided to take his practice. They settled in Misty Springs soon afterwards, where Jannike had to repeat seventh grade as she wasn't able to complete it back in Oslo. At first, Jannike still seemed troubled and tormented. However, Stein did his best with the time he was able to spend with her. He told her that America was not Norway, and Norway was already the past. Jannike at first did not understand. However, spending more time in Misty Springs, listening to her father and walking through the rooms of her new home slowly but surely changed her. It was not apparent at first, but it was happening. Being the new girl at school, a number of people flocked to her, in an effort to make friends with her. Make friends with the girl who was a murderer. Like hands reaching out to her, they were warm and accepting, despite her initial misgivings. They only saw her as Jannike, just as her father always did. Little by little, Jannike started to smile again, laugh again, make friends again, while pushing aside her guilt and problems. Day by day, she was a little happier, and the pain she once felt hurt less and less. Her father was right. America was a new life, a happy new life for her. Though he had to leave for days and even weeks on end and had to entrust her in the care of a housekeeper, he made the effort to come home as much as he could. After a year and a half, during the latter part of eighth grade, Jannike had definitely changed.
Now just ending her year junior in high school, she's trying to improve her grades a bit ...and perhaps try not to get caught doing anything stupid if she could...while of course still doing her own stupid things, as she hopes to graduate and enter a good fashion design school without too much black on her record.
Weapon: Jannike's weapon in Avalon is a dark metal scythe as tall as she is. The handle is long, sleek and dark, and the scythe's dark arc blade is large and slightly sinister-looking, the sharp lower edge of the mostly black blade being a very deep shade of violet. Decorating the top of the handle and just beside the blade is a black skull, and a few chains, making it look like the scythe was probably used for ritualistic purposes.
Other: Try to keep her away from too much alcohol. You wouldn't want the potential Team Mom to be even more dysfunctional. She also has a questionable taste in music...just don't get freaked out if you hear. Also, she has a pet dog named "Lupus" (No, not the disease!). Yup, she's a dog person. XD
Persona
Name: Sköll and Hati
Source: Twin wolf sons of the wolf Fenrir and a giantess from Norse mythology. These two are destined to devour the Sun and the Moon when Ragnarok, the end of the world, comes.
Appearance: Sköll and Hati are twin wolves the size of an average Arctic Wolf, about three feet tall from head to toe. In terms of color, the two are very different, however. Sköll is a deep sunset-red wolf with glowing gold eyes. His fangs and claws are gold in color and compared to Hati, he is slightly heavier in build, with thicker fur, giving the impression of strength and sturdiness. When he opens his mouth, one can see that he holds in it a bright, golden orb, a miniature sun. Hati on the other hand is a dark violet wolf with silver eyes, as well as fangs and claws. The latter two are slightly less sharp than Sköll's. Hati's build is also sleeker and his fur is silkier than his twin's, making him look slightly more swift and lithe. Just as Sköll bears a miniature sun inside his mouth, Hati holds within his a slightly dimmer but still glowing silver orb, a miniature moon. Despite their size, they are both fearsome attackers and are definitely powerful in their own right.
Powers: These twin wolves are two entities sharing the same life force, though they use their power differently. Sköll is a powerful physical attacker, using his brute strength and force in battle, his usual technique involving charging, biting and clawing, the second of which is usually the most effective, if rather hard to execute its effects compared to the other two which are direct attacks. His bites have the ability to paralyze and immobilize a foe for a certain period of time. The longer and harder the bite, the more powerful the effect. Hati on the other hand is a powerful user of Dark magic. He uses darkness and shadows in attacking and is capable of stealing a foe's life force through some of his skills. While not as physically strong or sturdy as his twin, he attacks much more quickly and is a little more evasive. The two of them specialize in one-on-one offensive skills, and do not learn multi-target skills. Both wolves are capable of debilitating their foes and weakening them almost as well as they attack.
However, these two share the same life force, so if one is unable to battle, so would the other. Aside from that, they usually cannot attack the same target until much later on, unless of course there is only one target to begin with, which allows them to do so at the cost of the attacks becoming more taxing on Jannike. As they are twins, they cannot stray very far from each other, only about 5 meters at most.
All done! XD Hopefully, I get in. XD This Persona probably gives a nice, smooth progression for a possible evolution (Fenrir).
Edit: Decided to create an avatar that looks as much like her as possible, so it's easier to visualize her:
Her corset is actually cropped above her stomach, only reaching the bottom of her ribcage, but they didn't have any of them on Gaia, this was the closest I could get. XD
