~ Glossary ~

(Note: This list will be constantly updated as more things show up in the RP)

Persona: A Persona is "the mask one presents to the world." As such, each Persona’s appearance and powers reflect the person they come from. Each Persona takes the form of a mythical creature, figure, deity, warrior, or spirit, and each is connected to a certain Arcana. A Persona can be summoned in several ways, but the most common way is through willpower or the use of an Evoker. Only Persona users can combat Shadows.

Shadow: A Shadow is the embodiment of repressed feelings or emotions, specifically negative emotions. Shadows come in many forms, and each of them is also related to a certain Arcana. Most Shadows also wear a mask somewhere on their body that is inscribed with the number of their Arcana. Shadows prey on humans, specifically those whom share the same qualities that they were born from. Victims of a Shadow's attack usually develop "Apathy Syndrome" a condition that causes extreme lethargy or depression. However, stronger Shadows are more than capable of killing their victims.

Evoker: An evoker is a device that is used to help one focus their willpower to forcefully summon a Persona. They can take many forms, anything from a weapon to a simple ornament. To those who lack the inner strength to control their Personas, an Evoker may be the only way they can summon their Persona safely.

Arcana: Each character falls under one of the twenty two Arcana. Each Arcana represents certain personality traits, both positive and negative. Personae are born from the positive traits of an Arcana, Shadows from the negative traits, and as such the appearance of each Persona and Shadow as well as their abilities, and mannerisms stem directly from their Arcana.

Apathy Syndrome: A common result of an attack by Shadows, this condition leaves the victim in a state of extreme lethargy and depression, leaving them like a pale zombie, devoid of almost all life. To help someone recover from Apathy Syndrome, the shadow that preyed on them must be destroyed. Those with Apathy Syndrome have no will to live, and if left alone will simply sit still and groan until they waste away.

Velvet Room: A mysterious room that lies in the void between worlds. Its Occupants are directly responsible for the safekeeping of both worlds by having the power to awaken those whom they deem responsible to the power of Persona through use of a contract. It is unknown just how much the Velvet Room occupies or how many occupants actually reside in the strange “room”.

Contract: A means by which the Occupants of the Velvet Room can awaken the Persona of those with the Potential. It generally reads something like: "I accept full responsibility for my actions and I choose this path of my own free will."

The Potential: The term used to describe those with the emotional strength to summon or create a Persona. While the willpower required to summon a Persona is fairly common place, there are certain traits and qualities that allow the actual summoning of a Persona. Thus, those who possess the Potential are fairly uncommon. However, it is common for those with the Potential to be drawn to each other though they themselves are probably unaware of the reason.

Occupants: The residents of the Velvet Room. Only six residents are known at this point, and it is unclear how many there are, how they came to be, or what their true nature is.

Theodore: An Occupant of the Velvet Room, and the youngest of three siblings. Like the other Occupants, it is unclear just what his true nature is. He appears to be a young man, perhaps in his early twenties, and has a refined attitude. He also goes by "Theo", and is the one who sent the invites to the Velvet Room.

Velvet Key: An artifact of the Velvet Room, and one of the few items that can open a doorway between this world and the Velvet Room. It only works on a Velvet Door, and is the only means of opening said door.

Velvet Door: A doorway between this world and the Velvet Room. Though there are other ways to traverse the gap between worlds, the Velvet Doors are by far the safest, and each can only exist in certain locations. They can only be opened by a Velvet Key, and can only be seen by those who have already visited the Velvet Room.

The Dark Hour: A period of time during which the Shadows can roam freely. During this time, normal people are transmogrified into coffin like objects and are unaware of the changes around them or that the Dark Hour even occurred. In addition, all electronic devices cease to function. The Dark Hour generally occurred each night immediately after midnight, when the Veil between the worlds was at its weakest, but the recent weakening of the Veil has caused the Dark Hour to begin occurring sporadically.

The Veil: The protective barrier that separates the Human World from the Other World. It is normally at its strongest around noon, and weakest around midnight and certain dates or events can have an effect on it as well. Currently, something is causing the Veil to drastically weaken, threatening to destroy it completely.

Famine: A sickly individual with powers that are beyond human or Persona. He knows the secrets of the strange events, but he refuses to tell more than he needs to. Appears to be one of the Four Horsemen.

War: A fiery girl with a seemingly endless arsenal of guns and blades. She is very powerful in combat, having taken out two powerful Shadows in a matter of moments. Appears to be one of the Four Horsemen.

Margaret: Theo's elder sister and another Occupant of the Velvet Room. Seems to have a lot of knowledge about what is happening to the two worlds.

Jack Frost: A Persona under Theo's control. He was sent to the group to guide them to the doorway to the Magatsu, under orders from Theo.

Magatsu: A dark realm that exists in the void between the human world ad the other world. Travel through it is the only way for humans to arrive in the other world without the aid of a Velvet Room. It is constructed from the memories of humans, both living and passed, and is a save haven for Shadows making trips to the human world.

~ The Shadows ~

Throughout the RP, we will most likely encounter a wide variety of Shadows. This list will give you a bit more details about the various Archtypes of Shadows.

In addition, each Shadow wears a mask that indicates their Arcana, a rough estimate of thier strength, and their preferred prey. In general, the higher the number the stronger the shadow though there are exceptions to this.

Mayas: Basically blobs of darkness, Mayas are the purest and most basic form of Shadow. Their many types encompass a wide variety of emotions, and as such they have no favored prey as a whole. You can tell a Maya's type and strength by the type of mask they wear and the number on the mask. The higher the number, the stronger the Maya. They attack with their clawed hands, though some of the stronger Mayas are capable of using magic.

Magic Hands: As their name suggests, Magic Hands are glove-shaped Shadows that attack primarily with magic. Though each type uses a different magic, they tend to be weak to fire, even the fire users. The basic form looks like a plain white glove (always right handed for some reason) and attacks with fire magic. The different forms can be distinguished by their glove, since they all have the number "I" Magician Mask. As their mask indicates, they prefer to prey on those with the negative traits of the Magician Arcana, specifically unconfidance or low self-esteem.

Crying Table: A powerful Shadow that appeared among the group of Mayas and Magic Hands at the North High Gymnasium. It takes the form of a table with a red and black table-cloth draped over. Above its head float items of the four suits of the minor arcana, a sword, a wand, a cup, and a coin. Its mask is a larger version of the blue "I" mask and is located on the front draping section of the tablecloth. The Crying Table is much stronger than the Magic Hands, and also wields fire magic. Fire magic is also very ineffective against it, and it is immune to dark and light magics. However, it is vulnerable to ice magics and its legs are weak to strong impacts. As a Higher Shadow, it can command Lesser Shadows such as the Magic Hands as it wishes so long as they have the same mask.

Behemoth: A Shadow strong in body but weak in mind. It bears the "I" mask, and was under the control of The Fool. It has no weakness or resistances. It was killed by War during the battle.

The Fool: A Shadow that seems to embody the concept of "Zero", or the power of nothing yet everything. It is a very powerful and mysterious Shadow whose intentions are unknown, and is the only known Shadow to wear the "0" mask. Though it was seemingly destroyed by War, it promised that it would return, the defeat only serving to make it stronger for its next arrival.

~ The Story ~

(This section will be constantly updated as the story progresses)

On North High's last day of school, several students mysteriously received an envelope containing a strange letter and a Tarot Card of one of the twenty two Major Arcana. The letter was from someone who called themselves "Theo", and stated that the card was their admittance ticket to the Velvet Room, and that to accept the invitation all they had to do was place the card under their pillow. Though their concerns on the matter varied, all but six (the Fool, Magician, Emperor, Death, Moon, Sun, and Judgement holders) accepted the invitation, leaving fifteen students who accepted (The World Arcana being excluded from the invites).

After placing the cards under their pillows and falling asleep, the students find themselves in a dream-like place, back in their day clothes. This strange room is not a dream however, but the Velvet Room, a place that exists outside of normal time and space. Here, the students meet Theo, the sender of the letters. Theo explains that he has called them there for a very serious matter, and hints that there was some danger or trouble for himself in doing so without "his master's" knowledge.

Before he can fully explain the matter however, Theo claims that there is something that must be done. He presents each of the students with a Contract, the key to unlocking each of their Personae, and waits for them to agree to the Contract's simple terms, to accept responsibility for their actions and to understand that they choose this path of their own free will.

As the students sign the Contracts placed before them, the Velvet Room is discovered by a dark presence. Sensing the danger to the students, and even himself, he abruptly ends the meeting without the time to fully explain the situation or the "power" that the Contract awakened in each of the students. He gives each of the students a Velvet Key, and tells them to look out for the Velvet Door, their only way back to the Velvet Room. Meanwhile, the dark presence has managed to crack the wall of the room, and begins to enter. Theo quickly sends the students on their way, returning them to their own beds once more. The students awake to find the Velvet Keys under their pillows, where they had placed their cards earlier. Though they don't know what happened to Theo, they do know that that was not just a dream last night. And so, each student begins their day, the first day of their new lives as Persona users.

As the graduation came to a start, the night suddenly grew still and calm. The sky took on an unearthly green glow, and the crowds of people were replaced by strange coffin-like objects. North High grew into a strange, twisted tower, and the moon hung low in the sky, staring down upon the silent, and dark world. The Dark Hour had begun, and the stage was now set for the beginning of the end.

In the strange Dark Hour, beings called Shadows, the embodiment of negative emotions, attacked the gymnasium, and the kids who had taken refuge inside. However, the students had an ace up their sleeve, Persona. That strange dream of the Velvet Room seemed to have given each of them to summon their Persona, the embodiment of positive emotions, to battle the Shadows. As the battle unfolds, it becomes clear that something is leading the attack. Coraline and her Persona Sphinx take the role of mission control, helping the others to take control of the fight, and the leader appears, a large table like Shadow. With a bit of quick-thinking, they manage to defeat the Shadow, but during this time there was more going on.

Cali had run into a strange man with a sickly appearance. The man tells her more about the mysterious situation they find themselves in, before revealing his true identity, Famine. The name draws up images of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and when Famine instantly teleports Cali and himself to the tower, it seems that his name might be the real deal after all.

Meanwhile, Yamiko had wandered into the tower and encountered another threat. She came fact to face with a massive Shadow, being controlled by an abnormal, thin shadow that called itself "The Fool." As the battle began, Yamiko was able to hold her own until several of the others arrived to back her up. On the lower level, Cali left Famine to assist Yamiko, but Famine was instead cornered by Caitlin, who bombarded him with questions. Famine answered some of them, in his usual cryptic nature, before heading upstairs to see the end of the battle, somehow, he knew when it would end.

As it turned out, Famine and Caitlin arrived just in time to see another individual come crashing into the room, literally with guns blazing. This fiery girl proceeded to take out the Behemoth rather quickly, proving to be far more powerful than the combined efforts of the group so far, before turning her attention to The Fool. Though she seemed to deal fatal damage to The Fool, the strange Shadow simply laughed at her efforts, promising to return in a stronger state. With The Fool gone, she turned her attention to the group of students. Famine introduced her his partner, War. War gave a quick warning before disappearing with Famine as the tower began to collapse. The students ran outside to find that the tower had gone back to being their school, and the Dark Hour had come to an end.

Though no one seemed to recall the events, save those who had awakened their Personae, life seemed to simply go back to normal. The group agreed to meet back up at Caitlin's house, in order to discuss what had happened, and what they should do in the future. However, the strange events were only beginning...

In the Velvet Room, the mysterious Theo meets with another Occupant, his elder sister Margaret. They discuss several cryptic matters, matters that seem to have an importance to why the group were chosen to awaken their Personae.

Back at Caitlin's house, the discussions are just getting into the deeper themes of the night when the Dark Hour suddenly returns. And along with it, is a mysterious messenger, a small Persona named Jack Frost who claims to have a message from Theo...

Alright, now, if anyone has any questions, concerns, ideas, etc, fell free to post them here.

In addition, each time an important character, enemy, place, item, or term is mentioned in the Main Thread, I will update the Glossary to include the new terms, so make sure you check the glossary often if you have a question about a certain character, place, or term.

If at all possible could you make a section with links to the various sign-up forms? I think it'd really help with remember the names of other player's characters/ the appearances of the various characters. That and it'd really help me with the writing of my intro.

Alright, I see your point. I'll update the player list at the top with links to the sign-ups.

EDIT: And its done.

Whoo-hoo! A Discussion Thread! There's something that was lacking in the last installment!

Anyway, I just have one small question regarding the plot: are all of our characters going to have to meet at the graduation ceremony tonight, or can they choose to not go? I say this because it's rather pointless for non-graduating students to attend unless they have friends graduating. I want to have Zuri, Yamiko, and Hurley meet up sometime that day, but since none of them will be graduating, I'd rather have them not attend the ceremony if they can avoid it.

Haha, I'm excited about when the Personae get to appear, especially since we have no clue when the Shadows will be appearing (there are none of those text messages we got last time). Just don't spoil the surprise. ;)

To Everyone: Again, because the server error prevents me from editing Yamiko's signup, in that signup her Arcana is listed as being the Chariot when in actuality it's the Devil (it was changed by TSR's suggestion). Just saying it again so nobody is confused when looking at Yamiko's signup.

@Kiruria: No, you don'tr have to attend the graduation ceremony if you don't want to. Trust me, when the event happens that draws us all into the plot, it'll be pretty obvious in character that something is going on.

Hey guys, I hope to write a catch up post in a few hours.
My English Class is crazy this year (Two reports back-to-back). It might not be long, but it will do it's job.

Wordy

#FlorrieSlayage2014
Is what I wrote OK? We need some excuse for them all to meet up properly eventually. I mean, they won't all get into the Velvet Room immediately.

And what is in the basement? I dunno, maybe Shadows.

Zincspider

My Bloody
@Wordy
I like the idea, but I'm not in a position to say anything.
But I can tell you it will be fruitless to try and get ahold of Pine on the phone... for obvious reasons.

TheSequelReturns

Faithful Crusader
@Wordy: Yeah, you have a sound plan.

Remember everybody, you guys are free to improvise if you have a plan of action, I'm not super strict so long as god-modding is avoided and no one takes the reigns so to speak.

But otherwise, yeah. Feel free to come up with stuff, it keeps me on my toes.

Wordy

#FlorrieSlayage2014
@Zincspider: Don't worry, I also said address as well, so Pine'll just have to shimmy on down to the LaVie Residence and reading his personality it does sound like something he would do on a whim. Let's see what the mysterious person has to sa, kind of thing. Although they'll recognize each other pretty much immediately because of how they're both in the sports faculties, cheerleading and kickboxing. In fact, Caitlin would have just said Pine's name without a need for description.

It'd be better that way so then there are at least two people awakening their Personas wherever, whether it's at Graduation or looking for Velvet Doors. Some people'll put off the message just in case it's some evil trap, but who knows?

@TheSequelReturns: Glad you think it's OK. I'm certainly not trying to steal it away from you or anything, it's just in comparison to Coraline (The Hermit), the one with the most leadership qualities (either the Emperor or the Empress) would probably be the person to try and get things together.

@The World at Large: Whoever gets the message first can just make up what Michelle looks like, although she'll just probably be a cheerleader who's kind of grumpy at giving up her day to do what her 'boss' is telling her to do, if only so she knows for definite she'll get onto the team at the beginning of her junior year.

TheSequelReturns

@Everyone: Hey, I'm really sorry for the delay with the last post, I've been really busy lately since we're getting everything sorted out to move into a new house so its been a little hectic, but I have gotten the next post up now, and I should be able to keep updating regularly again from here on out.

@Wordy: Yeah, I was actually hoping someone else would step up to take charge of the group. Coraline's not really cut out for it, and she's more of the support type anyway.

Ysavvryl

Pokedex Researcher
@Wordy: Um, you need to fix your post up. Almost no electronics work during the Dark Hour (which is why all the lights went out). Electronics that do work are either specially made for the Dark Hour (thus not available for consumer purchase) or are being possessed by shadows. I can think of the radio and motorbike Mitsuru owned, and the possessed train.

TheSequelReturns

Faithful Crusader
@Wordy: Ysavvryl's right I'm afraid, only very special electronics can function during the Dark Hour. Although, I've now realized that I forgot to include that in the Glossary. So, I'm off to update that.

Wordy

#FlorrieSlayage2014
I'll delete that and write something else. I presume everything up to the phone bit is OK, right? I'm not really sure what else I could do in this case. I want Caitlin in the gym somewhere during the first big fight scene...

How could I have missed something like that on my religious YouTube viewings? I'm dreadfully sorry, but thank you for catching me out.

I am such a dopey ditz sometimes.

Wordy- Just noticed an issue with Michelle. One person hasher as a blond whilst another wants her to be a redhead. So how do you suggest that issue be delt with?

Wordy

#FlorrieSlayage2014
She's pretty much a character designed as a Plot Device and so can have whatever hair colour you want. Yeah, strawberry blond works fine. I guess she can become a recurring plot device in doing random stuff, but she is totally a blank canvas for you guys to work on as you wish.

Hmm, does that apply to Yamiko's cell phone as well? Because I was planning to have her use that to summon her Persona for the first time (dialing Laverna's name on a cell phone is one way to evoke her)... but I suppose she could use one of the other methods if need be. If the cell phone is an exception, then I might have her realise that it works and go from there...

TheSequelReturns

Faithful Crusader
@Kiruria: Well, do you need a dial tone to be able to use the phone as an Evoker?

The phone might not be able to talk to anyone, but I don't see why that should keep it from serving as an Evoker.

EDIT: Just to avoid confusion, Zincspider consulted me about the Shadows first appearance, so it is part of the plan.

EDIT2: In addition, I've added a new section to the first post detailing the Shadows we've seen so far.
