I was having an argument with my neighbor about which instrument takes more coordination: piano or guitar. I think piano. What do you all think?

I play the piano, it IS difficult

I think the piano. I used to take lessons, but pretty much stopped after learning the hokey-pokey. :p at least I still remember that

I'm only saying guitar cause I was able to play the piano pretty well in the one music class I took that had us playing it (The music teacher even offered me to play a complex part of a song another class was doing,) and the one time I played guitar, I had trouble reaching one of the strings... they have thinner neck guitars, right?

Haven't had experience with guitar, but I picked up piano pretty easily when I was younger (Asian parents) and I found the bass guitar somewhat more difficult to reach a playable level with. So I would think that the guitar is even harder.

??????

That guy.
Piano because I'm a pianist and I want to inflate my ego

One thing that tripped me was learning Viva la Vida; the hands have totally different rhythms...one has the constant regular 4/4 while the other has that "Viva la Vida" beat that goes Quarter Quarter Quarter Eighth Quarter Quarter Eighth Quarter Quarter:|| . Try playing that and a constant 4/4 beat simultaneously...by just knocking on something! Its hard and requires a lot of coordination...it took me a while to get it and learn the song myself.

As a guitarist, you don't have to have that kind of coordination because you don't typically have to play the amount of parts a pianist has to...lucky you guys have bands

Where is the both option?
I play both and both need a lot of coordination between both hands (and feet if the piano/guitar has pedals).

Piano, definately. I've been playing both instruments for years but piano is by far the most intricate and involves the most coordination.

Piano, it requires pushing the keys with both hands at rapid pace to make it sound great, you miss a key and it will ruin the sound. That said I kinda play the keyboard and I can do some themes fairly easy and some not at all.

Im going to say its purely down to what is being played.

But one thing I will say, with the piano, both hands are essentially doing the same thing, even if its a chord/melody thing, its still both pushing keys, whereas with a guitar, one hand is fretting the note, and the other is picking/Strumming/Tapping etc.
I will always remember my guitar teacher, he was ausing his little and ring finger to playing a fast drone/tremolo kind of thing on the high strings, he was then playing a bass part with his thumb, and then playing the melody with his index and middle finger. So essentially 3 tunes at once.

Taking two pieces I consider very proficient for their fields, Beethovens 3rd Piano concerto (Specifically the Cadenza), and Carlo Domeniconi's Koyunbaba, I would say that Koyunbaba requires most co'ordination.

I know its long, but I urge you to watch it all,

So yeah, not to take anything away from the piano, Im going to say guitar.

Not necessarily. While they are doing the same thing they are performing different functions. A piano is three pronged in essence. It's really hard to teach your brain to tell one hand to do one thing, the other to do another, and your foot to do yet another.

But I'm biased anyway. I respect the piano a lot more in its ability to cover a much larger array of sounds.

Never seen anyone play as fast.

guitar...I play both, and I find playing guitar harder than piano.

Im not denying the piano takes talent. Playing a little piano myself, I do realise. But Also being a guitarist, I know the other side of it too.
And like I say, it depends what's being played.

I see your metallica cover and raise you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYShLol6fOk (Id suggest watching all 5 parts) or this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE5o3ZCSjjQ

Also guitar wise, to the guy who mentioned dragonforce, as good as they are, sweeps and taps, whilst maybe technical, dont take a whole lot of co'ordination. This on the other hand, (purely for the way he goes about it)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb5QaCfm7bg from 2:30 it gets interesting.

In short, I think its a pretty similar thing really, and it all comes down to what's being played
