Pikachu or Raichu?

If this needs to be put somewhere else just say the word and I'll do it.
Anyways, I recently got my hands on a copy of LeafGreen from my cousin and have been using a Pikachu on my team. He's a pretty fair battler, but he's not very good defensively, as he was able to be taken down at level 32 by one Headbutt from a level 30 Snorlax. (Both of them actually.) And I'm wondering, should I evolve him into Raichu? I've seen that Raichu can definitely be a lot more powerful than Pikachu if raised right. But the thing is, is that I just don't really like Raichu. But I'm wondering if I should evolve him just for the sake of making him stronger.

Any thoughts?

If you are lucky enough, you can catch a Pikachu that is holding a lightball. Lightball gives Pikachu double Attack & Sp. Attack, then you wouldn't have to worry about the evolution problem.

Well, using Pikachu would make the game more fun.

And, as a fellow Pikachu user (I use him on Wi-fi), Light Ball Pikachu is a BEAST, even against the toughest of Pokemon in OU!

I don't think you can catch any pikachu holding a lightball in LG. I would suggest evolving your pikachu.

If you like Pikachu better keep it a pikachu.

I think you need to evolve your Pikachu if you want a higher defense.

Raichu's stats in the defense are much higher. But keep in mind Pikachu attacks much faster. (speed)

I always train Pikachu until level 26, when it learns Thunderbolt, and then I evolve it. IMO, Thunder's bad accuracy makes it a bad move, and Thunderbolt is plenty enough for me.

Not true. Only pikachu's power (specifically sp.att since it's in Gen III games) is higher than raichu's because of Light Ball. Otherwise, Raichu is faster and has higher stats compared to pikachu.

Unless, that is, you;re talking abut ev spread. Pikachu will always want to maxs its speed. But for raichu, if it's made to be bulky, ev will not be spent on speed, and it may not be faster than pikachu in terms of its final speed stats

That's probably enough feedback, so going to close. Any other team-related questions, try the Team Help thread sticky in the 3rd gen discussion section. (Or for team rates, the In-game Team Rate section).
