Pocchama Rant.

Korobooshi Kojiro

Funnnngaaaaa
Due to a certain website, which I won't mention by name, people here seem to have the misconception that Pocchama's name equals "Rookie Fighting Bird". That is wrong, that's what the Torchic line in japanese mean, I asked a friend about it who I trust and he says:

I can't locate Pocchan in my Japanese dictionary, best match I get is Pocha which means "splash water; dabble in water" or "plump; chubby". Shamo means fowl - though I think that's a dubious link here.

I could be wrong about Pocchan, but I don't think it's meant to be rookie fighting bird at all.

In other words, Pochama would be most likely "A plump, chubby, bird which splashes in water", which Pocchama definately is.

Therfore, their is nothing indicating it will evolve into a Water/Fighting type like some have said due to the supposed name meaning.

Thank you.

Even so, that still takes out the fact that website said "Shamo= Fighting Bird"

And Shamo and Chama are pronounced almost the same, so GF was probably going for that when they named it. Obviously they aren't going to spell every thing exactly.

No, pochapocha means what that says pocha means. Also, "shamo" does mean fowl, but "pocchan" means "rookie fighter" or something like that.

Nevermore...
Its name means "rookie bird". That's FACT. It doesn't indicate much of anything at the moment. Pokebeach put that up there for whatever reason, but "rookie fighting bird" is misleading and a lie.

Also, why did you post this when you could have just posted that in the starter discussion thread? o_O

I don't know why everyone seems to think that Pochama has something to do with fighting... I doubted the translation was accurate from the beginning. (Does that things look like a fighting bird? At least Torchic was a chicken...)

I myself can't translate it yet (my computer won't do it) but it definitely isn't "rookie fighting bird" or whatever...

I honestly don't think Pochann is "Rookie Fighting Bird", as why would GF make two Starter Rookie Fighting Birds in a row?

EDIT: Kinslayer, I was trying to advoid mentioning the site. XD

And I definately think Pocha is part of it's name, as chubby, water splashing, makes perfect sense for a Penguin.

Kojiro why are you trying to fool people by putting that lie in your sig? Its not very funny.

Off topic, and technically it's not a lie.

Bonsly is pimp

I AM SO PARALYZED
No its name means "penguin child" "Bochama" means child and the "P" is most likely for Penguin

Because they can...And plus, their dominant types are different IF it will be Water/Fighting.

Also, I just wanted to mention Pokebeach to call out the site on their error. :p

Edit: Bonsly is pimp, where did you come to that conclusion/get THAT info from? ._.

No its name means "penguin child" "Bochama" means child and the "P" is most likely for Penguin

That is what I thought, but Pocha sounds way too like what the Pokemon is too be a coincidence.

EDIT: Kinslayer,

botchama literally means "kid" or "child"

I would hope it doesn't fool anyone.

Killer Blaze
pochapocha - splash water, dabble in water, plump, chubby
shamo - game fowl, gamecock
hama - beach, seashore

I can't even locate a meaning for pocchan anywhere at all besides Pokemon sites who claim "Rookie Fighting Bird" which I'm doubting.

See, all those japanese words could descirbe Pochamma.

It's plump and chubby cuz it's a penguin.
It would play in the water as it's a water type.
It's a bird.
And, the "beach" or "seashore" could refer to it's type.

It most likely won't be fighting, as it shows no signs of doing so.

...Torchic didn't either, but Cockfighting isn't unheard of.

Beach probably has nothing to do with it, but the others are highly likely. Especially the plump one.

Thanks. I hate Torchic so when I read that it was a rookie fighting bird I clawed my eyes out because I immediately thought of Torchic. I really want Pocchama and since it is a penguin, it will probably be Ice/Water because penguins live in Antarctica.

Actually, most penguins live outside of Antarctica. Only 2 species live there. Most penguins actually live outside of Antarctica, along the shorelines of Austrailia, S. America, the Galapogase, and Africa.

Yes, but they all live in the south of that area where it is colder. You wont find a penguin in Africa by a dessert or a penguin in the rainforest. Still, it looks like an ice type to me.

I'm pretty sure Pocchama wil be PURE WATER. They probabl would've mentioned ICe if it has that trait.

However, I can see it's evo's being part Ice.
