I hadn't considered that before, but it would've definitely been interesting if Gen had returned earlier in this series and had given Satoshi the Riolu egg instead of Satoshi receiving it from Joi. I still remember when people thought that Gen was going to give Satoshi the Riolu egg when they met at Steel Island in Shinou, although I'm glad it didn't happen back then since his team was already full at the time. I'm suddenly getting very nostalgic about Gen IV characters.

That would've been a much better way to introduce Riolu in Journeys rather than as a "random" egg that happened to come from Sinnoh. It's not like they were really hiding what Pokemon it was the moment the episode title was revealed anyway.

If goh does end up getting grookey
I hope ash ends up with kubfu since kubfu is really a battle related mon which doesn't suit Goh's goal similarly to galarian farfetch'd

Ash will catch Grookey, not Goh. Goh will not have Grookey and besides his goal doesn't make sense
That's not a guarantee. Ash shouldn't have a base stage starter when he's supposed to compete against the likes of Lance, Cynthia, and Leon.

That didn't stop them from giving him a baby Pokemon. The way I see it', the only guarantee is that grookey will be captured. It's up in the air on who itll be

Grookey doesnt have to stay first stage though. It will likely fully evolve into Rillaboom

Rillaboom is far less popular than Grookey is. Starters tend to not evolve if the fully evolved form is less popular than the base stage.

Who Riley? God I hated him exactly because he looked like Sir Aaron. I don't think Riley's coming back now because there's no reason for him to. If the writers cared about him they coulda had him give Ash the Riolu egg in this saga.
Ash's Riolu should've been that Aura Sphere Riolu from DP since they had a whole 2 parter to bond. Otherwise, wished it was a shiny Riolu that came from the egg to set it apart from all the other Riolu/Lucario.

Riolu is guaranteed to evolve by virtue of Lucario being the most recognizable Pokemon outside of Gen 1.
Starters can also evolve and evolved form are treated very powerful in anime just look at greninja, infernape, charizard, sceptile, incineroar they all are starters and started at base stage mon but yet they are one of most powerful pokemon of ash

We are so back Zygardebros

A Pikachu shouldn't be able to defeat a deity but looks where we are. The writers can write whatever scenario they want regardless of logic or what fans think should happen

Not all starters are as popular. Rillaboom is not very popular and is less popular than Grookey itself is. Ash also doesn't work well with slow and tanky Pokemon, with Snorlax being the only exception.

Rillaboom isn't slow it has average speed
Base 85 speed is not that slow
Since lucario has almost same speed too

I'm still thinking that Gou will catch Grookey. It makes no sense to only give Ash the least popular starter.

Wasn't treecko the least popular hoenn starter? Torchic was popular because of blaziken and mudkip was extremely popular but that didn't stop them from only giving ash treecko

There wasn't that much of a difference between the three and different times as well: The internet wasn't that widespread as it is nowadays.
