Pocket Monsters (2023) Speculation Thread

Greninja lost almost every battle after it evolved, until it won almost all of them. Winning != focus. Losing != lack of focus. Anyway these discussions are getting tiresome and repetitive tbh.

Out of all the gen 9 starters meowscarada has objectively gotten the most amount of screentime and focus. Makes sense considering its the most popular starter of the gen and also one of the most popular gen 9 mons in general. Even the episode title starts of with thr flower trick animation, getting the other two out lol.

If anyone wants to really talk, when was the last tiem quaxwell really did ANYTHING?

Master of Chaos!
Wonder if we'll get another Sango battle since the BRAT needs correction.

Definitely post Blue Berry segment, likely in that return to Area Zero and especially if Kalos ends up being relevant against since Jacinthe's right there and she's a crazy rich woman.

Two months of Roy and Unova? We are so back
Aren’t the starters catchable in Blueberry? Honestly if they plan on giving Roy a second Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution then it would be pretty cool if he caught a “feminine” looking Pokemon on his team. Mega Meganium matches his color scheme as welll.

Would be way better than that Lucario.

Are you okay....? Cap is nothing like Satoshi's Pikachu.

Perfectly put. The amount of mental gymnastics it takes to hold both of those complaints ("too many losses" vs. "too much winning/development") simultaneously is genuinely headache-inducing.

If the simple fact that Roy is succeeding is what's making them find flaws with the show's entire format (battling equals development!), then they need to just say that. It really all boils down to an inability to accept that this character, who they don't like, is the one getting the focus. Everything else is just noisy nitpicking trying to make a simple show sound like a complex tragedy.
Just to add to this. My main complaint with the horizon anime is that the story telling seems too much of a debby-downer.

Its just been an underwhelming adventure in my opinion;

Girl and boy protagonist meet a veteran crew of trainers (RVT), then go on an adventure to discover / solve a mystery regarding a fable trainer (Lucius) not many know about, expect partially in fiction story telling, which leads them into conflict with a shady organization, which was founded by the deceased trainer (Lucius).

The heroes (RVT) fail their mission within months of their first voyage. They lose their co-leader (Friede), decide to give up , then split up to focus on other tasks not relevant to their initial goal, instead of carrying out or fulfilling the will of their fallen comrade and the legacy of the fabled trainer they dedicated their time to focus on aiding.

Both protagonist (Liko and Roy) accomplished very little within their first year as pokemon trainers, catching very minimal (3 to 4) pokemon and just learning the concepts of a battle gimmick (terastalizination), a gimmick we're told within the story that many trainers around the world are capable of accomplishing if they take a course, which lowers the feat of their mastery of it.

Although Roy continues his training during the RVT disband one year timespan, what he accomplishes within a year, is so obscure, since the story as of now only revealed that his team of pokemon he obtained prior to the timeskip have remained arguably unchanged ( no new movesets or evolution) in their development within a year of trainining. Roy states he’s been training for over a year, yet his veteran team of pokemon again don’t acquire new movesets since his year long absence from the RVT, and his newest capture (Lucario) hasn’t learned anything new since its ownership under Roy, showcased in the mega evolution arc.

I was hoping the timeskip, would have allowed for Roy to reveal new battle tactics he picked-up from trainers he’s met around the world or techniques learned in battle tournaments, to give us some hints on who he may have met or trained under.

I’m hoping the story gives some surprise twist / revelation that Roy visited the gen 10 region, and mastered / utilizes a new and challenging battle gimmick from that region just to showcase the fruits of his endeavors as a trainer. But this may never happened within the story so I can only just imagine.

Overall, the story just feels as if its going for the sake of continuation.

So you are disappointed by the writing yet are hoping for even WORSE writing? Because there is no way they will showcase a Gen 10 mechanics when we are a year away from the Gen 10 games, and even if they showcased it let’s say October next year - what would be the excuse for Roy not to use it up to that point? LMAO

Its not bad writing if the story executes a reasonable plot twist. The anime can do anything it feels is needed for marketing. This is why we got a mega evolution mini arc, with no build up of its relation to the continuity of the story.

The anime could easily explain the excuse for Roy not using it, a new gimmick showcased in gen 10, was simply because he hadn't mastered the technique to use the special battle gimmick yet, and has been training off screen to perfect it. The concept of this plot twist could easily be incorporated into the narrative of Roy traveling to other regions for further training offscreen, since we never saw how he trained or where he traveled. Details could be added via quick flash back.

Evenmore, if the anime wanted, they could even surprise the audience, by showcasing additional pokemon on Roy's roster he may have caught offscreen, like with the case with Lucario, stating Roy caught different rare pokemon across regions offscreen, and released them. One of these pokemon being a gen 10.

In retrospect of pokemon captures, I would have liked the concept of the additional pokemon onboard the Brave Asagi, consisting of pokemon the children befriended and caught along their adventure , instead of the idea of the additional pokemon being simply wild. The concept of the children catching additional pokemon that are added along the ship, could have served as a additional support to help keep the old ship in good condition, while also serving the plot of the additional pokemon being used to help the RVT fend off the Explorers.

A plot twist that a writer pulls out of their arse is simply bad writing. What you're describing is not a "reasonable" plot twist on any level. Roy suddenly revealing he's had a gen 10 gimmick all this time would be monumentally terrible writing.

I don't understand how you can be so critical of Horizons plot while offering horrible ideas and presenting them as something good, lol.

I think your idea of good/bad writing is completely messed up.

Technically third after Rayquaza but obviously he'll catch it before Rayquaza.
