Pocket Monsters (2023) Speculation Thread

We don't need another 25 years long series.
I'm sure the anime wont come to that resolution of continuing a specific story for 25 years, but I do speculate that it will keep up the tradition that its protagonist journey never ends.

With that said, I again hope the pokemon anime incorporates some innovative ideas to further increase its target audience engagement in its next story.

I fathom the idea of the anime hosting a fan poll, that allows its children audience to select / vote a non-legendary / mythical pokemon they would like for the new protagonist to catch during a special / filler episode. The pokemon could be the protagonist's 7th pokemon, which could later be released or stored if the writers think its purpose in the story will be shortly limited.

I understand the writers have their selection of pokemon outlined for its protagonist, however I think audience participation in this activity could be interesting.

I think the last I can recall the anime experimenting-around with Pokemon roulette for developing Ash's team was in the first season when introducing Butterfree, Raticate, Haunter, and Primeape. They didn't stay long and I think the concept of their introduction was to see if they fit. I can even recall the Black and White anime adventure retrofitting the Pokemon roulette concept.

However, Pokemon Journey's was the zenith of the Pokemon roulette concept when Goh was introduced in my opinion.

I believe it will last 5 years in total

If Mr.Mime does return, chances are its getting paired with Dot or Liko.
Mime. Jr's is James pokemon. Grant it I do imagine the Rocket Trio siding with the Twerp Band over the crooks that actively drug their pokemon with painful rocks. But James and Mime. Jr are that close to each other.

The only way I see for the writers to keep the same protagonists is making Meowscarada so sick Liko couldn't pursue her adventures with her anymore (more or less similar to what happened with Chimecho), and discovering that, in a "Your Princess Is in Another Castle" way, that her family's history was actually deeply connected to the Gen 10 Region all along or something like that. Even with that, I wonder how the writers will ever do such a thing.

That would be pretty bad. Not only the idea of Liko leaving her Pokemon behind, but also the idea of Liko leaving her sick Pokemon behind while she goes on a new adventure.

They don't need to do all that. They can just have Liko decide on a new goal after Spinel is defeated, and this goal would conveniently take her to the gen 10 region.

But Liko would inevitably become nerfed again (because they obviously won't let her just steamroll her opponents), and I don't want that to happen. So I'd prefer new rookie trainers as protagonists again instead of Liko being humiliated.

If anything Ult is most likely going to carry into the new series which I wouldn't mind since we haven't had a dedicated jerk character since BW and he's the only member with a Pokeon not tied to the current gen. He was introduced late enough but early enough to where they don't need to give us a bunch of introduction episodes discussing him in the next series.

Ult can rot after the series ends lol

Amen.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Ult, but he fundamentally has no reason to exist.

His whole existence is entirely redundant. Not only is he here solely for the purpose of Mega Evolution promotion, a role which could have easily been repurposed and given to Liko or Dot (friendly reminder that a random new boy got Mega Evolution before the actual female protagonists of Horizons), his existence and forceful insertion into the main cast ended up further screwing up the already screwed up character focus. Like holy f*ck, why did Ult get to battle Blueberry Elite 4 while Liko or Dot didn't? That's beyond insane to me, and everyone just nodded and went along with it.

Like, the story would actively benefit from Ult not existing because that would simultaneously allow for more Liko/Dot focus, but it would also force the writers to use the female cast for Mega Evolution promotion instead of excluding them for some godforsaken reason.

I love ult, but I can forgive him for interrupting likos battle that she would have won. And that even though he fought a elite four, that battle was like 2 min, a ep rhat easily could have been a proper elite four battle with another bba elite four member...

It's been idk how many episodes and we still barely know anything about this character, and his Dragonite only had one battle and that's it, I genuinely don't know what his role is supposed to be in the story

I've not really warmed up to Ult at all. I will admit he's been slightly more bearable compared to earlier episodes but his role has felt so non descript I'd have honestly rather had Amethio joining the group instead. He's only here to act as a second Mega Evolution commercial.
Facts. It's wild that instead of capitalizing on Amethio's character development by having him join the Rising Volt Tacklers, they dropped a random new kid into the group. Instead of the story choosing only Roy and Ult to get Megas, they could have sent all the kids to Kalos for the purpose of training and getting Megas. They made so many weird choices with Mega Voltage, I simply don't understand why they took this route.

Was it even necessary to make the timeskip start with Roy having access to mega? Would've been better if all kids go to kalos in order to train and they all end up with Mega

If they really wanted Lucario, they could have written it so that Roy comes back from his adventure in Sinnoh (instead of Kalos) where he got a Riolu. This Riolu eventually evolves into a Lucario. And maybe this way Roy can actually have a believable bond with his Lucario, because God knows their current "bond" is laughable and nonexistent (basically mocking the entire notion of Mega Evolution which is meant to be about close bonds).
