Pocket Monsters? Pokémon?

Pocket Monsters? Pokémon?

So, as we all know, Pokémon is called Pocket Monsters in Japan. But recently, I've heard Pocket Monsters being referred to as Pokémon in Japanese. Initially, it was for the sake of abbreviation in the game/anime dialogue, but now 'Pokémon' is being used more often. So, is 'Pokémon' essentially a new name for Pocket Monsters, or is it just very widely accepted?

Yeah pokemon is just another way of saying Pocket Monsters. They got pokemon by droping the 'c', and 't' from Pocket. And droped the 's', 't', 'e', 'r', and 's'. And they got Pokemon.

Would you call a cute togepi a pokect monster?
Would you call a huge rayquazza a pocket monster?

I think you meant:

How can you call a huge Pokemon Wailord a pocket moster.

Rayquaza is barely bigger then you. Groudon is actually taller.

Well it's just better for people to say and remember. Same debate as calling a human animal.

Pokemon is easier. It's better than Pocket Monsters in my opinion. Plus, im just used to saying it like that.

Not only is the term "Pokémon" more widely accepted, but also simpler to say.

Kids 13 - Below watch the Pokémon Animé, and you couldn't expect them to say "Pocket Monster" over and over again. It's like expecting a four-year old to say, "Such Tomfoolery... I must digress". Some kids aren't even capable of saying such words yet.

Teenagers and adults play the games and if the term "Pocket Monster" were used instead of "Pokémon" which is a simpler abbreviation, then some pervy minds might make the whole industry go down. Like in one episode of a show called "Game Suace", wherein one of the hosts said, "Now it's time to review the new Pocket Monster Game" and the other host said, "Stop! This is a family show!".

So for the sake of simplicity and decency, I guess Pokémon is the better term.

The reason it's called "Pokémon" more often instead of "Pocket Monsters" is because of the way the Japanese abreviate things. Look at the shippings. "ShuuHaru," and such are very common. If you look at that, it's two syllables for each part of the pairing.

"Poketto Monsutaa" is "Pocket Monster" in Japanese, so by following the 4 syllables total rule, you derive "Poke" and "Mon" for "Pokémon." Other examples of this exist elsewhere, where one word is shortened to two syllables. This is simply a case of two words being shortened, and then combined.

they are called pocket monsters because:

if you see the first....three episodes of the anime, the pokeballs are first very small, hence "pocket" monsters. the small pokeball grows into a larger sphere to release, return or capture pokemon.
