Pocket Monsters XY Pokémon Review Thread

Yea I thought that Phantump would've suited him. When X&Y first began I thought he'd catch one or a Pumpkaboo to continue the trend of him getting grass types, but he ended up with Inkay. I kind of wish that Jessie had caught Inkay instead. :[

Gourgeist suits her though.
Phantump would have been a great capture for James. Having both Phantump and Pumpkaboo on the team would have been like the old days with Koffing and Ekans.

I guess in the sense that Gourgeist is feminine. But I thought Jessie should've caught a Kalos pokemon that looked more sinister or creepy, like a Trevenant or a Dragalge for example. ^^

You evolve Gible and you get Grotle 2.0. The reason it is quite powerful is because it's disproportionate bite-size and it's small size for quick mobility. No matter where the opponent aims at Gible, you will get exposed by his bite because it can pretty much cover his whole body with it. Once it evolves into Gabite, it loses it's trademark bite-size to body ratio, so it will have trouble blocking attacks with his bite.

I disagree with this view. If Gible had evolved fully into a Garchomp, it's speed would have increased greatly. It could've flied at a high speed as a Garchomp and become a powerful air battler. It's Draco Meteor was so much powerful as a Gible(even Tobias acknowledged that), as a Garchomp it's Draco Meteor would've even KO'd some Pokemon with serious high defense. I believe that Gible would have been one of Ash's most powerful Pokemon if it fully evolved into a Garchomp.

If Musashi or anyone else in the main cast had captured a Kuzumo or Dramidoro, it would have likely struggled moving constantly on dry land.

i don't think they would've given ash the same pokemon that the regional champion had though.

If Gible evolved fully evolved into a Garchomp, it would have been very late into the series, probably at the League, so Cynthia having the same Pokemon wouldn't have been too much of a problem then.

Or...it could have gotten the Torterra or Barney treatment. Gible was perfect for its unorthodox battling style. Ash already has powerhouse air battlers (Charizard, Swellow, Gliscor).

Gourgeist was feminine looking and good for performances, and had a similar prima donna personality, she bounced off of Jessie perfectly. Admittedly this was only in effect after she evolved, I don't remember her getting a lot of character focus as Pumpkaboo.

I can't knock Inkay, he's adorable and that works great with James. So is Phantump, but I love Inkay design wise. All the scenes of James hugging Inkay and cringing whenever he got hurt were endearing.

Noivern was treated worse than any of Ash's BW Pokemon. Even Palpitoad, at least he got gym time.

Only Pokemon I've seen treated worse was Torterra, but when it was a Turtwig it got great treatment. I'm disappointed that they made Noivern tie every battle it was in rather than just knock out an opponent then lose to the next Pokemon. Also, when Ash brought Goodra back I thought it was dumb that they basically just had it spam Bide instead of giving it some new moves to show that it improved while it was away, like they did with Gliscor and Charizard.

XY had loads of potential, but I've got to say it only partially lived up to it. It's kind of sad that filler fights like Ash vs Diantha were much more epic than half of the league battles
