What is the lighthouse at Slateport City for? Is it just there for ambiance or is there a hidden easter egg there?

It's just there. I don't think there's anything special about it.

I want to know too! Looks somewhat like a Chimecho totem pole. I go there when I want to evolve a Pokemon with a elemental stone.

Eh, I used the search forum thing and nothing came out about this. Must be deja vu.

Anyway, I'm starting to think the lighthouse is just there to give Slateport the "port look."

The lighthouse does nothing. Its just there for decoration.

It sounds like you're talking about that pole at the bottom right of Lilycove. It does look suspicious...but it doesn't do anything either.

just wait till somebody says it looks like a heracross lololol. In the fr\lg discussion, somebody asked for the secret of pattern bush. People say it looks like a heracross, and it is on the verge of turning into a flame war.

On topic:I think game freak placed a lighthouse there for fun.

Oops! I only paid attention to the word "lighthouse" and immediately thought of that beacon(?) thing in Lilycove. I hardly go to Slateport much so I forgot the lighthouse there.

I think it's kind of a throwback to the Lighthouse in Olivine City from G/S/C. 'Cept there's no yellow Dino-sheep that needs medicine. Thank God!

When I first started to read this topic for some reason I thought of the ship in Vermillion of R/B/Y, with all of the mystery and fake rumors surrounding it. Dunno why.

Well, I think its fair to say that Game Freak has the right to add small neat graphic touches to the game. Let's say the lighthouse wasn't there. It would just be a stupid cliff. It serves no purpose; it's just there and who cares anyway. Just next time you pass by it, say: how lovely it was of some Japanese graphic artist to go through the extra trouble of designing that lighthouse.

It's there 'cause Slateport is the main intake/output center for trade with Johto via Olivine, and since the harbor has rocky protrusions, the incoming sailors need all the help they can get. Duh.

Nah, it's for ambiance; and cool as it would be if it had a purpose, it really does give Slateport that harbor feel.

You understand these kinds of things (little people here do). From what I've read, almost everyone thinks that everything must have an "obtainment" purpose, that is, if you can't get something rare or vital (HM0x for instance), it was not worth placing in the game. And when a place or item isn't available after some event, it should be ignored (yes, I am referring to Cave of Origin). What, does everyone here just want to finish the game (who cares about structural aesthetics)? I'm guessing most people would say "Mossdeep space centre. What a useless building. You can't even go into space, so why does it even exist?" Well, it exists to make Mossdeep City different from other cities. If just the simple, most vital buildings were left in the game, it would be linear, unattractive, boring and no one would like it. I like that lighthouse, it makes the place feel like a harbour. These tiny details actually contribute a lot to the overall feel of the game, giving an exclusive ambiance to each location within it.

Finally someone stated the point of this thread. And The space center actually has a good purpose, Maxie invades it remember?
