Pokémon "Clothing?"

Pokémon "Clothing?"

Here's something I always wondered about--certain Pokémon appear to have clothing, like Jynx and her dress, Lombre and its hat, Garvedoir and its gown, etc, etc. I've wondered if they were intended to be actual clothing, or organic extensions of the Pokémon itself. I would think that wild Pokemon aren't born or come across clothing, so I tend to see these 'garments' as part of the Pokémon's body--which is kind of gross, just imagine having flowing pieces of flesh hanging from your body.

Although I suppose it could be hair/fur in some cases, many of the Pokémon in question don't appear to be furry. Anyone else wonder about this? Or do I just have too much time on my hands? :p

Well, they HAVE to add some sort of clothing to cover up any human-shaped Pokemon (Like Jynx, Gardevoir, and Machamp), because if they didn't, it would raise some issues...

It seems that Gardevoir's dress is part of her body and is similar to long, billowing fins. And Lombre's hat is a lily pad.

I never thought about it, but I think it's good, especially if it means that you won't be using a naked Jynx.

I like to imagine that in the Pokémon world, Pokémon influence human-made objects rather than the other way around. So Machoke/Machamp's "belt" (which I think is some organic growth) inspired the championship belt in human wrestling, and Elekid's prongs inspired the electrical cord's design, etc. It makes more sense than human inventions showing up out of nowhere in nature.

Then again, there's that whole thing about Voltorbs just suddenly appearing in Poké Ball factories...

Anyway, I guess they felt the need that some pokemon needed clothing, besides, would you want to see a naked Jynx? *shudders*

Oh, another came into mind, Human-shape Pokemon have clothes because if pokemon are naked, and are shown on the anime or games, I think there would be sewing going on right now. Also, its funny to see a Smoochum evolve into a Jynx with a dress!

This is always what I wondered. But I think its part of the pokemon overall, because a naked machop evolves into a MAchoke with clothing.

What might look like clothes might be parts of their bodies on like Jynx and Gardevoir but I have no idea about Machoke/Machamp.

Are you forgetting that these Pokémon are supposed to represent humans...?

I was wondering about Lucario's "pants" the other night while drawing him. I ended up deciding that he's not actually wearing pants, but just has longer blue fur on his thighs... but I don't claim that as a fact. Just a personal idea. XD

Jynx was probably an ice-dwelling neanderthal creature that was domesticated and bred, and there offspring are distrabuted to trainers. The breeders probably give them clothes.... because like someone else said, no-one wants to see naked Jynx! This is probably the same case with Hitmonchan.
As with Gardevoir, I think that those are skin growths which female Gardevoirs use for courtship displays.

Membranes, duh. Those are made to aid in natural defense... like a carapace of sorts, but not really.

I mean, let's take Machoke, for instance. Why do you think it has that growth there?
