Pokémon coming to (high school) stage

David Narter, a Chicago-area high school teacher, is bringing a unique production to the stage this weekend. He has written and directed Pokémon: Gotta Buy 'em All (a Parody), a play based on the Pokémon anime. The rendition is based on Tracy West's adaptation novel Pokémon: The First Movie.

Students will perform the show without costumes or props and are on stage during the play's running time, which is around 30 minutes. According to Narter, the satire is "quick paced, loud, weird and funny."

The production debuts Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater at East Leyden High School, 3400 N. Rose St., Franklin Park, Ill. Admission is $2 for students and $3 for adults. To add to the parody, the first 50 ticket buyers each night receive a free special edition card featuring a cast member.

The show will later be performed at the Illinois High School Association Group Interpretation competition.
All I can say is, WTF.

>.< No matter how strange a play is, people work hard to perform it. I knw you're kidding, despite what you say, but even saying it is very rude. I've been in five school plays (including a Shakespeare and Les Miserables) and it takes a huge amount of hard work and dedication to do it. Please don't make these sorts of jokes, as I find it rather insulting for the people who actually put effort into making these sorts of productions.

But on the topic of this play, I think it's really strange. I know it's a parody and not very long (hence the low ticket price) but what would make anyone want to perform a play like this? Wait- who who bother writing it? Unless they mean to prove something to the audience about merchandising and fads (despite the fact that it's a parody), it seems rather useless do to, unless you (like me) are really into those sorts of extra-ciricular activities.

No offense, but I hate when people use Pokemon for this sort of thing. It annoys me as much as when people catagorize Pokemon and washed-up and for four year olds.

Have to agree with ya there. =/

This kind of thing is just really irritating. It bugs the living hell out of me when Pokémon is ridiculed in ways such as this. Now people will think Pokémon is even more childish. ¬¬ And like Psychic said, who would bother participating in this, or writing it?

If you ask me, I think that's a lawsuit waiting to happen if Nintendo finds out.
Also, a play without costumes and props is pretty boring in my book.
By the way, where did you get the story from?

Me too. What part, north or south? I live near NYC. But anyway, I really want to see what they are going to do without costumes or props. I think it won't be much of a laugh though. What in the world are they going to act as?

Man that sounds funny. I love parodies, and a Pokemon parody? Sounds great if you ask me!

But wait, did you ask me?

You know, it's amazing. Any time somebody on this board discovers that somebody somewhere is publicizing their dislike for "Pokémon", they instantly interpret it as a personal attack and take an unholy amount of offense. This may come as a shock to many of you, but liking "Pokémon" is not the law. This play is nothing more than a lighthearted spoof, not a carefully-orchestrated act of hate with the intent of scorning all "Pokémon" fans everywhere. Acting as if "Pokémon" is some holy being that should never be lampooned is just downright ignorant.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a franchise, I should really just relax."

Wow! A Pokémon play - done by high school students? Boy, would I pay to see that!! Who cares if it's a parody or what not - it sounds cool anyway.

I agree with you 100%. It doesn't sound hateful at all. This play might even end up making more (older) Pokémon fans - unless, of course, it stinks. Who knows?

Yeah, it is entirely annoying when they do things like this... and why now, 4 years ago when it was considered a fad would of been better.

I don't think they are trying to give pokemon a bad reputation. usually when someone does a parody of something they are doing it because they enjoy whatever they are parodying. it's just for fun.

I'm interested in the play, it sounds weird.
