Pokémon: Deoxys' Shadow Preview: Milieu

This is a rather philosophical overview of events placed before and a preview of some aspects that occur within the plot of my upcoming Fan Fiction, Pokémon: Deoxys' Shadow. The first lines in my writing are actually quoted from The Birth of Mewtwo because I saw them fit for what I had intended to show my audience.

My story is definitely not going to focus directly on the main subjects talked about (origin and end of universe) in this preview, but rather the struggle between good and evil, and the final realization at the end of the fic. It'll be average in that aspect, but I made this to show you how the realm of my story revolves around something more than the fight between good and evil, since I'll only be able to mention it once more at the end of the fic. Side-note: milieu is French for "middle."

MILIEU - THE ONE IN BETWEEN

Space...never-ending space. When did space begin? Nothing is known in space...never ending space. When did space begin? Nothing is known in detail. However, once upon a time, at the ends of space, in the galactic system...in one of the solar galaxies, a creature was born...it evolved...humans were born...and again, another time a new creature was born. More than a hundred species of this new creature was born, and eventually people called these mysterious creatures by a name that suited their tongue.

Pokémon.

The Pokémon did not stop at a hundred kinds. As time went on, new Pokémon were found one after the other. This cycle of discovery, just as space, never ended as everyday people learned more about these mystical creatures. Few humans knew that Pokémon and themselves were connected in the strand of Life, and indeed affected each other’s existence on one planet called Earth. Few Pokémon realized this as well. Confusion was one of the first elements brought into the creation of worlds.

It was the Council of Legendaries that brought it into closer focus.

Their origin was unknown until people started believing in the ancient myths and stories of legendary Pokémon that had altered the world in one way or another. Their beliefs led them to investigate the ancient mysteries surrounding the archaic beasts of yesteryear. Humans were even shocked to find that many of the Pokémon mentioned in legends of long ago still existed on the planet, but were indeed so improbable to see with the naked eye that only evidence gathered genetically or artificially proved them to be living.

After all, if someone saw a legendary Pokémon, would you believe him or her?

The reason for their secrecy among the open inhabitants of the Earth is to maintain a peace between two different species of beings living harmoniously. Their work was done in the beginning, and some of the mythical beasts, if reopening the door to the surface of human and Pokémon alike, would only make matters worse by unleashing their strength involuntarily. After all, it was they that helped to shape the land, and with abilities such as that and beyond, they could accidentally manipulate the weather, or cause tremors of disturbance in nature because of their utter divinity and power.

But they would not have been hiding had there been someone to reveal themselves to eventually.

It was said that a legendary Pokémon would only reveal itself to a human with a heart of pureness, a soul of courage, and a mind of a hero. When facing hardships, destruction, and peril, it is said that legendary sighting is a sign of a brighter future and of more fortunate circumstances. These assumptions are based on the lore of legendary Pokémon making timely appearances at events that affected the world forever. Some are seen as quick glimpses near storms, while some appear in dreams. It is unknown what they are doing, but whatever it is, they are protecting the peace.

However, peace has not been a whole element on earth without being completed by the sins of greed, hate, and selfishness. In itself, that is not what one would truly define as peace, but merely a majority upholding of purity and goodness in the land, with a rising dark that has always been repelled by the light since the dawn of time, struggling to keep evil at bay. It is an impure peace that seems to be in good’s favor, but could easily mirror to evil’s advantage.

In this struggle, the legends seek to find the true heart of darkness and light, for past the good and the evil, there is a neutral force that binds the existence of everything together. It does not have a name, for it is something one can barely ponder about without becoming lost, more than less speak about it. How could one comprehend the spark of the universe, and understand the collapse of time itself? Discovering the answer to this question would fulfill the timeline of the universe. Birth, and death.

This question is the sole reason why time exists. It just seems that time is waiting for a hero to stand above shadows, illuminated in radiance. The legends wait for a single being to rise from the darkness to fulfill the deeds of light. It is this being that holds the neutral force incarnated in a vessel. However, one could assume that there have been many beings in the universe’s history that have held the neutral force, but have perished, leaving the question in check.

For only when the vessel realizes its destiny will it finally discover the true answer, and shall the universe conclude its so-to-have-been everlasting tale. Everything that has a beginning has an end. Everything that is in plain sight has a dark side. It is the in-between points of these two principles that give life reason to live.

Many have only searched this world for creatures like Pokémon. Some have been discovered in alternate dimensions that inadvertently cross over the paths of our own world, proving we are certainly not alone in the star-scattered sky of infinity. But what if there was a crossover of a world with something in the same dimension? What if a missing variable in the equation of the universal question traveled across the reaches of space to unintentionally bring about the process of solving life’s mysteries? What if it was the ultimate form of darkness entering the legendary Pokémon’s dominion of daylight?

It is the being that lies between these two opposing forces that will stop apocalypse, and horrific death. It is a human vessel that stands with one foot in evil’s home, and the other in benevolence’s warmth that will purify the impure peace, solve the universal question, and discover the answer veiled behind the masks of a Pokémon from the end of the universe, and the face of Pokémon’s beginning.

…but the other question remains: will they discover their destiny in time to align with the very moment good and evil cross paths, or be lost like the other vessels, continuing pained times until opportunity rises once more?

It may take a few revelations, kidnapping, scientific intervention, death, rebellion, rivalry, and a few pretty damn good Pokémon battles to bring fate’s wits about.

The story will begin.

And then it will end.

Pokémon: Deoxys' Shadow is the one in between.

Always watching...
You're talking about really complex connections between the two opposing sides here, and how they mingle with each other in a mixture of both... It seems really hard to do without full understanding of what constitutes light and darkness, and blurring the line between them isn't gonna make it any easier. There's also alot of philosophy involved, so I do hope you don't get lost trying to figure out exactly how things did, are and will happen in the story...

Hard? Definitely. Interesting? Even more so! You've piqued my curiosity here, and I eagerly await the hour this fic splashes in with its own thread! If there is a PM list, please add me in!

Thanks, much ^^ Like I said, I will never EVER talk about creation, the origin of the universe, and the death of the universe until the very end of the story. Everything in between is simply what I had in mind for the story, which builds up to climax in that last, final chapter. I've planned it out; there's about 40 chapters, so yey @_@

Literate: Thank ye D: I don't usually write things like this, but I was in the mood.

TK: And it's the truth, too. I mean, think about it: unless someone was there with you when you saw a legendary Pokemon, they probably wouldn't believe you. In fact, before humans ever discovered any trace of the legends, they had only heard of them from word of tongue, or talk about ancient writings. If someone told you that they had seen a legend that was barely known about, it'd be pretty unbelievable; in fact, many would have denied the existence of "legends."

katiekitten: I figured this would be pretty complex; but yeah, thank God it'll only come back to get you at the end, when you can evaluate the meaning of life :p

Thanks for teh replies, all.
