"Pokémon: Intensity" HoSo Specials - As close to Season 8 as I'm getting

In the repost of my Season 6 thread, ShucklemasterJ suggested that I do HoSo specials for "Pokémon: Intensity". I didn't think it'd work at first, but then I realized that there are many characters I wanted to bring back but didn't get the chance to. Many of these characters weren't resuscitated because I couldn't connect them to Ash and Misty or Jessie and James in any way - and by making special episodes without the main characters, I've overcome that obstacle. So here's the first four specials - and thank you, ShucklemasterJ, for the inspiration!

“Annie and Oakley’s Excellent Adventure”
Episode HACP01
Original Airdate: 7/8/05
Guest Voices: Norm MacDonald as Articuno, Chevy Chase as Zapdos, George Carlin as Moltres

In the vast Olivine-based secret offices of Team Alto, Annie and Oakley are eagerly awaiting their annual performance reviews. Annie suspects that they are shoo-ins for a promotion. However, when their boss, Marisa, goes over a year’s worth of Annie and Oakley’s progress reports, she informs the two agents that they are not ready for promotion and must remain at Class 2 for another year. Outraged, Annie and Oakley vow to prove that they are the most vicious thieves in all of Team Alto. Trying to think of a truly remarkable heist they can pull, they learn of the plight of crazed Pokémon collector Lawrence III, who once tried to capture the three Legendary Birds in the hopes that it would summon Lugia from the sea. Deciding that they can use Lawrence to help them capture the birds again, they set off to the Orange Islands in the hopes of locating him. Tracking him down in his massive mansion off Shamouti Island, Annie and Oakley try to persuade Lawrence to help them. However, Lawrence has learned from his past mistakes and has vowed not to go after the legendary Pokémon again. Not about to lose a promotion, Annie and Oakley hold him at gunpoint and demand that he take them to the birds’ locations. Lawrence reluctantly takes the two agents out to sea and shows them Moltres’ Island, but once on land, he makes a break for it and tells Moltres to take off. Annie and Oakley try to contain the bird, but he escapes - and the temperature immediately begins dropping. Annie and Oakley grab Lawrence and chase Moltres to Articuno’s island. As soon as Articuno leaves his roost to help his companion, thunderbolts begin flashing across the sky at an alarming rate. It is at this point that Lawrence informs Annie and Oakley that the birds have an effect on the weather. When Zapdos arrives to fight off Annie and Oakley, Lugia rises from the sea and sends the birds back to their respective islands. He then begins pursuing Annie and Oakley for being so inconsiderate. Blasting across the sea back towards Shamouti Island, Annie and Oakley’s rocket engines run out of fuel, and their vehicle splashes into the sea. The Shamouti Coast Guard arrives on the scene and arrests the two for disrupting the peace. Stuck in jail, Annie and Oakley call Marisa, who agrees to send help, but assures them that they won’t be promoted now for at least two years.

Yoshi suspects that he may be right. When the three friends arrive at the End of Summer Festival several that weekend, they learn about the myth of the Ghost of Maiden’s Peak. Upon hearing that the ghost nearly claimed two innocent men several years ago, Jackson begins to suspect that there may be truth to the myth. Yoshi, however, is more focused on Dani and how he will somehow admit his feelings to her. That evening, however, the festivities are disrupted by the appearance of the supposed ghost. Jackson is initially terrified, but the ghost sets its sights on Yoshi instead. Yoshi begs not to be taken away, insisting that he has to tell Dani how he feels, but the ghost drags him towards the top of Maiden’s Peak against his wishes. Dani hears Yoshi’s cries for help and sends forth her Misdreavus, whose Nightshade attack reveals the Gastly behind the facade of the ghost. Outraged that he’s been found out again, Gastly force-evolves itself into a much more powerful Haunter and attacks Dani with a massive Shadow Ball. Yoshi manages to get Dani to the first aid tent while simultaneously fending off Haunter with his Typhlosion. Once she comes to, Dani realizes all the lengths Yoshi’s gone to in order to secure her safety. Yoshi takes the opportunity to tell Dani that he’s in love with her. Touched, Dani gets to her feet and prepares to fight Haunter with Yoshi at her side. Regardless, Dani is still grateful to Yoshi for saving her - and agrees to a date with him the following week.

Guest Voice: Cloris Leachman as Lapras, Billy West as Slowbro

Having spent over fifteen years as a member of the Elite Four, Lorelei begins to consider the pros and cons of retirement. She feels that she’s reached the pinnacle of her Indigo Plateau training days and decides to call it quits. Her fellow Elite Four members Bruno, Agatha, and Lance bid her farewell, but once she’s gone, Lorelei begins to realize that she’s not as young as she used to be. Retiring from the Elite Four has only proven that she’s past her prime and that she needs to cherish the rest of her life. Slipping into a mid-life crisis, Lorelei immediately purchases a new car, new clothes, and visits a cosmetic surgeon to schedule an appointment to have her face lifted and her already large bustline enhanced. Her Pokémon can’t stand to see her like this, however, and decide to take action. Before she can go so far as to change her appearance, Dewgong, Cloyster, Slowbro, and Lapras corner their owner and convince her that if she’s so eager to get back into the swing of life, she should start training again. Lorelei admits that she wants to train, but aspires to more than just fighting the challengers at the Indigo Plateau every year. She then gets the wise idea to become a gym leader. Though the Kanto and Johto unions are currently at full capacity, the recently relaunched - and legal - Orange League has no limit to how many gym leaders it has. Lorelei sets off to Tangelo Island to register in the Orange Gym Leader’s Union and is immediately allowed entry. Meeting with the other gym leaders, she quickly gets accustomed with Cissy, Danny, Rudy, and Luanna, as well as union leader Drake. Setting up a gym on Tangelo Island itself, Lorelei becomes widely respected. During one union meeting, Danny asks Lorelei out for the evening, and she readily accepts, relieved that men still find her attractive. At the end of the evening, Lorelei invites Danny in to her gym for the night. Danny agrees - but after several passionate hours, Danny finds himself ridden with guilt and admits to Lorelei that he’s married. Shocked that she just contributed to an act of adultery, Lorelei is even more perplexed when she discovers who Danny’s wife is - Professor Ivy. Wondering why Danny would want to cheat on such a beautiful wife, Lorelei apologizes to Ivy for everything. Regardless, Ivy is still furious and demands a separation. Realizing that she might not fit in with the Orange Islands crowd, Lorelei packs up and heads back to the Elite Four, where she is welcomed with open arms by her friends.

“The Girl Can’t Help It”
Episode HACP04
Original Airdate: 10/13/06

In the Johto region, Professor Hale is still widely regarded as the top expert on mythical and/or legendary Pokémon. However, his work at his home laboratory is often hindered by his teenage daughter Molly, who constantly has her friends over for slumber parties and the like. Needing privacy while preparing a presentation for the Academic Pokémon Society, Hale specifically requests that Molly and her friends be quiet. Molly insists that she never gets to hang out with her father anymore, and to appease her, Hale agrees to bring Molly with him to the APS meeting that weekend. This is not what Molly had in mind, however, and she mopes through the entire lecture. When it comes time for Hale to give his speech, Molly pays back her dad by swapping his notes with a failing essay she has written for school. Hale becomes the laughingstock of the society. Furious, Hale grounds Molly for a week. Believing that her father doesn’t understand her feelings, Molly sneaks out of her room and takes off into the forests of Johto. Distraught to find his daughter missing in the morning, Hale calls the police, who put out a citywide search for Molly. Meanwhile, Molly travels northward towards Goldenrod City, where she hopes to find a place to rest and collect her thoughts. Reading a flyer for a teen help hotline, Molly decides to call them, but she gets the wrong number and calls the Goldenrod Radio Station. It happens to be the middle of Mary’s call-in talk show, and the sympathetic DJ hears Molly’s story anyway. In telling her plight, Molly conveniently omits the fact that she ran away from home. Arriving at the radio station itself, Molly wanders in to find more help and is greeted by the station president. In the president’s office, Molly sees his prize Silver and Rainbow Wings on display and feels mysteriously compelled to take them. Knowing that they supposedly summon the wise and almighty Lugia and Ho-Oh to their roosts in Ecruteak City, and having always felt a strange connection to the legends of the Johto region, Molly sets off again in the hopes of getting guidance from the legendary birds. En route to the Tin Tower, she is spotted by a police officer, who tries to follow her and calls Professor Hale to alert him. At the Tin Tower, Hale arrives by helicopter and demands that Molly come home immediately before she’s grounded any more. Molly insists that the whole reason she ran away in the first place was because her father was so wrapped up in his work, he kept ignoring her and telling her to stay out of sight. Realizing the error of his ways, Hale apologizes and promises to be more considerate in the future. Molly accepts his apology and returns home.

“Lovin’ an Excavator”
Episode HACP05
Original Airdate: 2/2/07

At the Dewford Gym, Brawly is concerned that his protégé Shawna is losing her touch in both Pokémon battling and physical combat. He decides that she could benefit from a lengthy training session at Granite Cave. While there, Shawna runs into Steven, on a spelunking mission with his Aggron, and she is instantly smitten with him. However, Brawly calls her back to her training session before she can engage him in much conversation. Steven tells Shawna that he’s currently working as a top executive at the Devon Corporation in Rustboro if she ever wants to stop by. During the next few days, Brawly sees that Shawna is getting even worse - she’s far too preoccupied with Steven. Brawly, however, tells her that her top priority is to train - as an apprentice at his gym, and possibly the one who will take over after Brawly retires, she can’t be sidetracked by outside projects. Shawna doesn’t want to hear it and runs out, heading for the port and boarding a ship. However, in her haste, she confuses the signs at the port. Only after she gets off the boat does she realize that she’s in Slateport City. Brawly sets off after her on his surfboard, but realizes that he can’t get far on the waves and resorts to paddling across the sea. Meanwhile, Shawna catches a bus to Rustboro and locates the Devon Corporation building. She asks the receptionist to see Steven, but she is turned away for not having an appointment. Shawna is undaunted - she remembers Steven telling her that he’s got an office on the twelfth floor. Determined to find her crush, Shawna prepares to put her training to good use and begins to scale the building. At the Slateport Beach, a thoroughly exhausted Brawly reaches the shore and crawls to the curb, managing to hail a cab. Upon arriving at the Devon building, Brawly works his way through the crowd that has gathered to witness the spectacle of Shawna climbing up the outer wall. Brawly calls up to her, demanding that she come down, but Shawna yells back her refusal. As she does so, she loses her grip and starts to fall, but she swiftly calls out her Medicham in midair, which casts a Barrier attack around her that softens her landing. Once back on the ground, Shawna apologizes for all she’s done, but Brawly admits that she’s shown true examples of both physical and battling strength and is really worthy of inheriting the gym someday. To make up for snapping at her, Brawly allows Shawna to go on a date with Steven. She eagerly does so - and ends up incredibly bored while Steven drones on about excavation for hours.

Guest Voice: Patrick Warburton as Ditto, Robin Williams as Salamence

In the Kanto region, Duplica has been moderately successful over the years performing her acts with Ditto and Minidit. However, she receives some unfortunate news - the local real estate council is foreclosing on her mansion. Duplica is shocked, especially since she’s made all the proper payments, but the council insists that they don’t have anything from her. The only way for her to keep her home is for her to somehow come up with the necessary 50,000,000 yen by the end of the month. Duplica decides that the best way to make the money she needs in such a short amount of time is to hire a spectacular opening act for her shows to draw a greater audience. Placing an ad on the Internet, she quickly gets a reply from husband and wife magician team Butler and Diane, who visit Duplica in person and agree to open for her. Widely known throughout the regions, Butler and Diane’s addition to the playbill draws a huge crowd to Duplica’s next show. Standing in the wings, Duplica is amazed beyond belief at the incredible illusions that Butler and Diane perform. However, when Duplica goes on, her disguise act pales in comparison to the amazing opening act, and the audience starts leaving. Duplica realizes that this does not hurt her profits, since nobody wants a refund after seeing the magic show, but inside she is disappointed that the audience walked out on her act. Butler insists that, in order to draw further profits, Duplica will need to give the audience more of what they want. Duplica reluctantly expands Butler and Diane’s act to take up half the allotted show time. In spite of the adulation the crowd gives them, Diane is still self-conscious about stealing Duplica’s thunder. Eventually, Butler and Diane get equal billing on Duplica’s marquee. At this point, Butler requests a larger cut of the profits. Deciding that she can still make enough by the end of the month, Duplica acquiesces to Butler’s request. Finally, the audience demands an encore of Butler’s act that leaves Duplica with only five minutes to perform. Enraged, Duplica fires Butler and Diane and demands her profits back. Butler refuses, but Diane insists that he comply. While attempting to escape with his share of the profits, Butler opens the front door to get to his van and runs smack into the councilmen, who are there to inform Duplica that they had the wrong house - Duplica is still financially set. Diane feels sorry for putting Duplica through such trouble and gives her the profits back, though Butler is still reluctant to do so.

Unfortunately, they are bested within the first round and immediately disqualified. Despite taunting from her rival Shiro, Chigusa decides that she needs expert help. Her grandfather’s training methods are no longer effective, since he is so old and unable to execute the moves he describes and can only offer verbal advice. Instead, Chigusa packs her bags and heads for the Kanto region in the hopes of meeting the legendary Karate King Kiyo at the fighting dojo in Saffron City. However, Kiyo is no longer there - he has been replaced by Anthony, former manager of the P-1 Grand Prix Tournament for Fighting Pokémon. Anthony explains to Chigusa that he has not had a win in years since his original unofficial gym was shut down. Explaining that he might only have a brief period of time before the Pokémon League decides whether or not to close down this gym, he decides to make the best of his time by holding one mor P-1 Grand Prix, and makes Chigusa and Hitmontop his star fighters. Lengthy training sessions begin, while Anthony’s apprentices ready their own teams. During her training around Saffron City, Chigusa is shocked to see that Shiro has shown up in town as well, determined to top her once and for all. This merely strengthens Chigusa’s resolve - and it also motivates Anthony to push her harder. Eventually, Shiro proves to be in exquisite shape, while Chigusa’s extended training sessions wear her into the ground. She eventually realizes that Anthony is not concerned about her performance - he just wants to prove to himself that he can still train a winner. The day of the trainers’ division of the Grand Prix, she plans to confront Anthony about this, but he ushers her into the ring before she can say anything. Chigusa is horrified to see that she’s been pitted against Shiro already. Though Shiro has the upper hand initially, Chigusa remembers the advice her grandfather gave her before she left for Kanto. Inspired by his words, Chigusa manages to come within an inch of beating Shiro - but at that moment, Karate King Kiyo returns from the mountains of Johto, flanked by Pokémon League officials who have declared the gym null and void. Forced to hand the building back over to Kiyo, who then shuts it down, Anthony reassures Chigusa that, though he may never win another Grand Prix, she’s still proven herself worthy of a true tournament.

Still, the next time she sees Nikolai, she finds herself immensely attracted to his Zigzagoon costume. Marina tries with all her might to suppress her bizarre sexual attraction - but then Nikolai invites Marina back to his apartment. To see what his chances are, he swings by a bar that evening, where he runs into a beautiful woman named Blue and her friend, Yellow. The two of them hit it off remarkably well, and Blue agrees to see Jackson again. Upon their second meeting, Jackson suggests that he introduce Blue to Dani and Yoshi. However, upon meeting them, Blue finds herself even more smitten with Yoshi than she was with Jackson. Throughout her date with Jackson, all Blue can keep her mind on is Yoshi. She confesses her feelings to Yellow, who gets the idea to start seducing Jackson herself - for she has secretly had a crush on him since she first met him in the bar. Meanwhile, Blue tells Jackson that she has a secret, but does not want to tell him just yet. That night, after her date with Jackson, Blue pays Yoshi a visit and tries to advance on him. Yoshi tries to fend her off, declaring loyalty to Dani - who calls him in the middle of the melee. After the arduous phone call, during which Yoshi has to keep pushing Blue off of him, he finally ushers her out. To harden his resolve to stay true to Dani, he calls her right back and asks her to move in with him. Meanwhile, Jackson is having similar problems of his own, as Yellow becomes so obsessed with seducing Jackson that she goes to stalker-like lengths to win his affections. To add to his puzzlement, Jackson is approached by an angry former trainer named Red, who demands to know what he’s been doing with Blue. Red explains that Blue is his girlfriend, but lately she has been away from the house for extended periods of time. Both of them set off to find out what Blue has been up to. Jackson calls Yoshi to ask if he’s seen her, and Yoshi tells him of all that Blue’s been trying to do to him. No sooner does Yoshi hang up than Blue arrives at his apartment with the intent of wooing him again. But Dani is in the process of moving in, and angrily tells Blue to get lost. When Blue doesn’t move, Dani initiates a Pokémon battle that soon deteriorates to an all-out catfight between the two female trainers. Jackson and Red arrive to break up the fracas, and Blue apologizes to Red, confessing that she can’t stay committed to any relationship. Red takes Blue home, agreeing to try and get her help for her lack of commitment. They do, however, keep their respective Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, and the youngest brother, Michael, still keeps his unevolved Eevee. Moving to Ecruteak City in the Johto region, the four brothers quickly rent an apartment and settle in. But after a few weeks, it becomes apparent that they are bored without something to keep them occupied. Mike suggests that the four of them play the dating scene in the hopes of he and his brothers each finding a woman that they can spend their life with. However, every bar and dance club results in their disappointment, as no girls in Ecruteak are to their liking. On the way home, the brothers stop at the Ecruteak Dance Hall, believing it to be a nightclub, where they meet up with the five Kimono Sisters. Instantly, all four brothers are smitten with the sisters, and Mike’s Eevee is surprised to see that each girl owns an Eevee evolution. The brothers introduce themselves and promise to come by and visit the girls tomorrow in order to see their dancing performances. However, upon getting home, the brothers realize that there are five kimono girls and only four of them. Deciding that one girl will have to be turned down, the brothers attend the girls’ performance the next day and try to decide who gets who. Elsewhere in the dance hall, Mike’s Eevee is hassled by the girls’ Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, and Umbreon, who dare him to evolve. However, Espeon defends Eevee, saying that it still doesn’t have to evolve if it doesn’t want. Meanwhile, each brother hits on the girl they chose, but Mike still finds himself torn between Sakura and one of her sisters. Unable to decide, he leaves the dance theater empty handed while his brothers have all arranged dates with their chosen girls. Eventually, Mike decides on Sakura's sister and figures that he’ll have to let her sister down easy. But when he returns to the dance hall, he can’t bring himself to disappoint Sakura. Instead, he decides to let his Eevee decide for him by pointing to the trainer whom he believes best befits him. Eevee selects Sakura, since she’s the most amicable and considerate, and her Espeon stuck up for him earlier. Sakura agrees to a date, and to Mike’s relief, her sister isn’t thoroughly devastated. Eevee is incredibly happy for his trainer - so much so, that his happiness level reaches its maximum, inadvertently evolving him into an Espeon.

Zack attends his graduation ceremony, and is almost honored for his perfect grades, until his teachers burst in and announce that there’s no way Zack could have gotten the grades he’s reported as having. Dragged away by the police for the hacking, Zack claims that Dr. Akihibara did all the work, and the cops arrest him, too. In jail, Akihibara vows not to let himself be locked away again. During the trial, Zack insists that Dr. Akihibara was the one who actually hacked the computers, but when Akihibara takes the stand, he denies ever having met Zack in the first place. Realizing that he’s being selfish, Akihibara takes the stand again and confesses to the crime. Akihibara, however, is happy for at least having a slightly clean conscience.

He never had been able to open it, and seeing it again rekindles his desire to discover just what’s inside. However, his best efforts prove futile, as nothing he does can get the ball to split. Kurt remembers just how much time and effort he wasted on the ball, when that time could have been better spent customizing Poké Balls or spending time with his daughter. Kurt deduces that the GS Ball has resulted in him wasting a good portion of his life. Exhausted, Kurt decides to take a walk in the nearby Ilex Forest and clear his head. While wandering among the trees, Kurt runs into Eusine, the legendary Pokémon researcher, who explains that he’s been studying the local shrine in the center of the woods. He’s curious as to what it’s purpose is, but Kurt asks Eusine’s help in opening the GS Ball. Eusine examines the ball and notices that its shape perfectly fits an indentation on a pedestal in the Ilex Shrine. Suspecting that it may serve a purpose there, Eusine places the ball on the pedestal - and much to both men’s surprise, the ball finally springs open, emitting an immensely powerful white light. When the light subsides, Kurt and Eusine find that they are still in the Ilex Forest, but things look slightly different. Upon exiting the woods, they find that the ball has slingshot them fifteen years into the past, back to 2001. Wondering how to get back to the present, Eusine recalls the legend of Celebi, the Pokémon able to control time itself. Eusine knows that the only Pokémon that can summon Celebi is the Suicune he has been chasing for years, and sets off to Ecruteak City to find it. Meanwhile, Kurt discovers that he’s in March 2001 - the month in which Ash and his friends first dropped off the GS Ball to him. Realizing that his life is about to be devastated by the introduction of this ball, Kurt sets off to stop Ash, Misty, and Brock before they can deliver the ball to him. Meanwhile, Eusine combs the Tin Tower in Ecruteak City, trying to summon Suicune with his Clear Bell. Finally, Suicune appears, but he claims that it’ll take him a while to find Celebi. Back in Azalea Town, Kurt tries everything he can to stop Ash and his friends, including setting traps for them outside of the town, but they manage to overcome his every obstacle. Realizing that this old man is trying to trip them up, Ash sends forth Pikachu, Chikorita, and Cyndaquil to combat Kurt, sending him flying. As the three trainers arrive at Kurt’s house, the present Kurt sneaks in through the back door and remains out of sight. Hearing how much his daughter is extolling him for being a great ballmaker and an even greater father, Kurt resolves not to let his future be decimated by the GS Ball. While Kurt and the trainers are outside collecting Apricorns (during which, Brock catches his Pineco), the present Kurt steals the GS Ball and makes a mad dash for the Ilex Forest. Eusine meets up with him, with Celebi and Suicune in tow, and Celebi transports Kurt back to the present. Relieved, Kurt returns home to find his daughter there, more respectful of him than before. Pleased that he’s changed his life for the better, Kurt rids himself of the GS Ball by throwing it down Slowpoke Well.

Yes, we finally found out the purpose of the GS Ball. OMG, I can't believe Kurt wanted to stop himself getting it, even if his daughter respects him now. Also, Eucine finally gets both Suicune and Celebi, so hurrah for him. I have always loved your episodes Jesse, and it'll be a shame to see them finally stop. Good luck with any future projects.

Jesse GS the II

I was frozen today!
I don't like to think that he caught them, since it's been established that catching legendaries in the anime has a tendency to throw off the natural order. But he at least met them, which I'm sure would tide him over.
