Pokémon is bad.... again

I'll make this short and sweet:

Mom says PKMN is bad, saying it's ONLY fighting, and therefore violent.

I tried to explain that PKMN is a friendship thing, and battling is a sport like Martial Arts, but said I "was too young, and I'm talking out of my ***"

Basically, I need you guys to help defend me, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE state your age somewhere in there. Also, use some grammar and spelling - some random n00b defending me won't help t all.

Links to some articles by OLDER people would be great too.

Thanks everyone.

EDIT: She WILL be reading these, so be nice.

Um, so she will listen to a bunch of people on the net, okay then.
Dear Mrs Paperfairy's Mum, Pokemon is not just about fighting, it's about making friendships and learning new things. To follow your dreams, like Ash's quest to be a Pokemon Master. In fact friendship being formed are probably more common then violence.
I hope this has helped just a bit so you understand.

By the way, I am 18 years old, well almost in two months..

1: It's an RPG of sorts.
2: Check the Rating. Oh, E! That must mean Everything is Violent!

Stay positive
Lol, when I was watching the episode of Pokemon where Ash loses in the Hoenn leagues, my mom saw Pikachu beat all beat up and we had a minor debate like that. XP I think I won.

So, Paperfairy's mom, here are some key reasons why Pokemon is good (I'm 16):

Pokemon battling is pure sport. There are many rules and regulations regarding what can be done and what can't be done. It's sort of like wrestling or, as Paperfairy himself said, martial arts. In fact, Pokemon are strictly required to not injure the opponent too badly while in battle.

Additionally, there is a special bond between trainer and Pokemon. Throughout their adventures together, most Pokemon grow to trust and care about their trainer. They fight because Pokemon naturally are very competitive and have an instinctual desire to be the best that they can, and the only way to accomplish that is by training with a human.

And supposing there were some trainer who forced their Pokemon to overly injure opponents, that Pokemon could easily refuse to listen. Also, because of Pokemon's unique stucture, they can quickly and easily be healed after even the most difficult competition.

Studies done on the Pokemon games have proved to boost strategic thinking in children; it is, after all, a stratagy game.

Also, none of the battling is actual violence; pokemon do not acctually take physical wounds, on the show or in the game.

Back I guess??
If I recall correctly, there was a research on how games influence player´s memory/inteligence, Pokémon is one of the games that raises! I´ll try find a link of the research. Maybe I find a portuguese site, if yes, then I´ll translate :p

Oh well, everyone is posting their ages so why not me :D I´ll have 16 years old in 3 days! (like my signature says)

Mrs. Paperfairy's mom, Pokemon is a good thing. It's not just about fighting, the anime is about camaraderie and loyalty, all good aspects. And in the games, there are also strategies and puzzles, which can help all of us in one way or another. In Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, the puzzles there even help players learn Braille, as it is necessary to learn to be able to capture the Regis, three Braille Pokemon of Rock, Ice, and Steel.

I am 15, but I have been into Pokemon since I was six. It isn't really violent... there isn't any blood, no murders, no cursing, all good for the younger audiences.

And since the rating is E, that means EVERYONE can play it, or watch it.

Mrs. Paperfairy's mom, like everyone has stated, Pokemon IS a good thing. It's not about, fighting and violence, it's about friendship, strategy, communication, discovery and adventure. It helps us all in someway. You can even learn how to decode Braille! And I'd like to point out, about 70% of the Pokemon fan base are 13 or over. Yup, no joke. There is also no violence, cussing, blood, gore and/or murder in ANY game. All 100% clean! Just perfect for younger audiences. (although, it is recomened that who's playing can read)

By the way, I'm 12.

. . .
Paperfairy's mom,
Okay. I don't see why you think Pokemon is bad. I mean, if it is rated E, why is it bad? There no blood, murder, sexual stuff...etc. in it. Just because there is violence doesn't mean it's bad! Pokemon is an RPG, a game that has a lot of fighting, battles...and the like. But another thing, you don't kill the Pokemon you fight, it just faints. There's no reason why Pokemon should be considered bad if it rated E, for Pete's sakes...>_<;;; And, YES, this is coming from a 10 year old. Have a nice day, humans.

Dear Paperfairy's mom,
The game of Pokemon is given a rating by the ESRB. They are professionals, and they rate games to help people like you decide whether a game is suitable or not for your child. All Pokemon games are rated "E", which stands for "Everyone". "Everyone" includes your child, therefore you should let him play Pokemon. If Pokemon WAS violent, it would NOT be rated E, but it would be rated T or maybe even M. Pokemon is just a game with imaginary creatures that say their own names, ma'am, and you should treat it as such. Have a nice day.

Strange how so few people understand how strategic Pokemon is. It's like chess(not literally of course) but put into a form where kids can enjoy it as well as older people. This is coming from a 16 year old who has played Pokemon longer than he can remember.

I'm nineteen. Snappin'.

Pokémon was created for children originally. Thus, the rating of "E" on the packaging by the ESRB. These people are professionals, and know exactly how to rate a game. Children of all ages enjoy Pokémon. The youngest that I've actually met is a four year old. As is obvious by my age, a lot of young adults enjoy it too.

As was previously stated, Pokémon is a strategy game, proven to help a child's memory. I have done my own research on this, and proven the theory true.

It is a story full of loyalty and friendship. It is a story about following your dreams and never giving up on them. The battles are fantastical battles, where the creatures are not actually hurt bad.

Ma'am, my mother approves of Pokémon, and always had, even when I was eleven. She allowed me to continue watching it and playing both the video games and card games. It is because of this that my mother and I have a close bond. We actually have something in common.

Pokémon allowed me to make many friends. It also taught me responsibility and gave me independence, as I got my first job indirectly through the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It also allowed me to fuel my dream of being a writer. Also, it helped me in a lot of my high school classes.

Sincerely, Hanako Tabris, age 19.

Also, If you think of yugi game and it's cards , picks and other stuff that might help.

Clearly we're great!
Dear Paperfairy's Mom:

I'm a die-hard Pokémon fan, and I'll be 26 this year.

I find Pokémon to be fascinating, both the world it presents and the creatures that live therein. It expands imagination, not only for children, but adults too. It's truly an all-ages franchise.

All those who would use pokémon for violent means are seen as bad guys (see the fourth movie for a stellar example of this). The normal 'battles' are seen as play fighting, with no lasting ill effects. No more harmful than watching a sparring match.

Pokémon brings people together. I have very close friends that I would not have met without Pokémon.

So please reconsider your stance. If you have any further questions, ask Paperfairy to ask us.

too lazy to read everything but...

FRIENDSHIPS????? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Ya rly, Pokémon is baby stuff where some nubbsih baby pokez cuddle them each other, like in the totally damn stupid anime @___@ </sarcasm>

Pokémon does not have anything to do with friendship. Pokémon is a strategy Game, with IVs, EVs, and so on. So it's simply based on Maths, Strategy, and a little bit of hax^^(exception RBY lol)
So, dear random mamma who reads this...Pokémon is neither Violence, nor friendships or so. It's strategy, like chess. And if your random child likes strategy, and calculating, it would please him/her. And here's a little quote i had once on ICQ lol
[13:42]sascha: what's your best subject at school?
[13:43]öpi: maths lol
[13:43]sascha: that comes from EV counting @__@

just my 2 €...

Pokemon has made me a brainless and abusive zombie. Who will pit helpless creatures to battle each other... [SPOIL]This part familiar? I posted this at Smogon[/SPOIL]

Just kidding...

Pokemon is nothing of the sort. Pokemon is about forming tight bonds with them and being friends with them. You care for them. The battling is all for sport and none of them are actually hurt.
