I should just stop having any hope for anniversaries because I'm always inevitably disappointed as they pick some really boring characters to give alts to.

1996 Red - yet another Red and Pikachu sync pair. I do really love how they made him look like the OG Sugimori art and probably a fitting unit for the 30th anniversary but it is still Red so I can't help but be disappointed. I'll probably pull for him because he seems like he might be a limited time unit who doesn't rerun again at least for a very long time, although he isn't held back by licensing and stuff. I wish he also had a physical move because I desperately need one of those.

Anni Florian - A new physical grass type finally, except he comes with one of the blandest Pokémon player characters ever. As much as I need help in the physical grass department, I am not pulling Florian.

Anni Juliana - A much needed broken normal type unit but for all other purposes same as Florian. They didn't even bother switching up her dumb hairstyle. If her banner lasts past the next datamine, I might pull her because I have no normal units to progress on the tower.

Gym Bede/Marnie - Happy to see them in these outfits. Not interested enough to pull them.

Apparently we're also getting free copies of the NC Kanto trio which means I finally get NC Red. The other two I already have at 3/5.

Unironically my favourite thing about this update is Opal getting into the game, even if she's just an NPC at the moment. Let me pull her soon please.

Ok I'll give my initial opinions on the reveals

Spoiler: Datamine

1996 red and Pikachu- Looks a good pair and not a massive surprise with the Anniversary.

Florian and Ogerpon-Not a massive surprise to be honest (my guess was basically him, Juliana or Kieran) but could be solid grass striker (and one without recoil which is good as for example Gloria and Thwackey use wood hammer as grass striking option).

Juliana and Terapagos- Not a massive surprise again to be honest (my guess was basically her, Florian or Kieran) but could be a good addition to the normal tower as normal probably could do with an upgraded striker.

Misty and Golduck- If you need a water type that can inflict sleep I guess this is ok (makes me wonder why they didn't go with Hypnosis Politoed or Yawn Quagsire though instead of doubling up on same evolutionary line). Still probably a useful addition to the game generally mainly for new players who may be limited when it comes to the trainer lodge and might be situationally useful for others.

Marnie and Grimsnarl- I thought she'd get an alternative outfit for her gym battle look. It's Grimsnarl but with a dark focus which sort of makes sense. Honestly dark field option is ok.

Bede and Galarian Rapidash- Similar to Marnie I expected the outfit at some point but what I find baffling about this pair is the fact that its main attack is Dazzling Gleam and its stats and non sync move seem to set it up as a special attacker which is a bit weird for Galarian Rapidash a known physical attacker. Honestly I think they should have just given it play rough and kept it as a physical attacker. Making it a special attacker puts it up against a lot of other special fairy typed support wheras it could have been a great physical support for fairy pokemon.

One thing I will say though is we do have Pokemon day soon and I wouldn't entirely rule out a bit more than leaked in this datamine for much later events.

For my game yesterday I got Marshadow and Korrina which is decent. Today however I got nothing but a move level increase for Leaf and Venasaur which ordinarily is at least something but considering today was my special ticket I was hoping for a bit more. It happens though. I also annoyingly got to lv 99 on trainer lodge pair as I didn't get the best roll but at least that ones nearly done. Also defeated koga at gym (had to solo it as none of my gym did any damage again) but I did get a lucky cookie so at least that's useful.

They could also give him something from his champion team like Icineroar, Dragonite or Porygon-z. If he's wearing an outfit based on Kitakami I could also see something like Dipplin (given it was his most notable Pokemon at the time). I could also see him with a trainer lodge Pokemon based on one of his random Pokemon perhaps Politoed or Poliwrath.

As for Penny the main thing I'd like to see is her in an Peony inspired Adven-tour outfit in an event with Peony (given Peony is implied to be her father) and Peonia . Given the outfit Glaceon would probably be the most logical.

It would be interesting how they would add Emerald Anabel into this game since we already have the International police version of her. Brandon is still in NPC jail while Tucker and Spenser are MIA, so the Battle Frontier team is far from complete.

I wouldn't rule out retro Archie and Maxie. Considering those are the versions which joined team rainbow rocket (which is the version that worked with Giovanni).

Could work with something like Gengar or Vileplume (given she uses them in initial battle or a version of Houndoom that doesn't mega evolve (to differ her from existing version).

Defintietly think adding the rest of the battle frontier members makes a lot of sense.

well i don't think we can get any further on the gym battles just to improve our rankings anyway. i think we've spent every 3 tickets just to clear the circuit in 1 go at the beginning of the event. I would just use 3 tickets. I believe those who don't have powerful strike sync pairs should just use 1 ticket to help applying rebuffs and stat reductions and do damage as much as possible.

I just hope rank rewards are worth the effort. I don't think how long i can go on for the pulls on the new sync pair banners or rather not getting any breather.

The game files treat this new Red as a separate character altogether instead of an alt for Red. He has a different trainer ID and is called Red2 in the files. Further adds to the speculation that this may be a special case and this unit might be for a limited time only.

But speaking of alt versions of characters, I would really like GSC Ethan and RS May. Both were so much better than their remake redesigns

Got my latest sync pair Giovanni and Nidorino. Probably not a pair i'll need to use very often but gives me another option as a poison support (taking me up to 4 when not counting eggs). It does amuse me that all my non-egg Poison support sync pairs are either members of the zubat line or Nidorino (2 bats from the same evolutionary line and 2 Nidorinos). I also got to 300 training tickets for the exchange so can choose a new pair from that. I already have Hugh and Unfezeant, and Marnie and Scrafty but not sure who to go for from the rest. Daily draws basically led to nothing today.

Took a shot a 1996 red pull. Don't get the fanfare so I assumed it was a dud pull.... Literally the first pair that came up on the pull was red 1996. I don't normally get that lucky.

I was 2 single pulls from pitying Classic Red. I'm gonna need to wait until I see my luck with the Arc trio before I pull for Juliana. I did get Sygna Suit Hau from my 1st multi though.

Was nice to see Chase and Elaine get a little bit of focus in the red event. I'd like to see their rival Trace show up at some point.
