Pokémon Ranger! The Wave-Guiding Riolu! Part One

On their travels, Ash & Co. meet up with another Pokémon Ranger. The Rangerr is undercover to stop Pokémon Hunter J from capturing other Pokémon. Ash & Co. discover that a Riolu is being hunted by J due to being able to use Aura before evolving. Ash & Riolu start to bond with their shared Aura, but J is insistent on getting it. Will she succeed?

Well, the jackal isn't captured by any Twerp, and is already owned, if you must. Inspite of the whole aura crap(which is getting as repetitive as Space Invaders), it's a pretty interesting filler.

Wow, Ash uses his Aura quite a bit in this episode. The first time to sense Riolu, and another to see Riolu's memories.

It looks like Hunter J is starting to despise Ash, because when they showed a picture of the Ranger and the Ash and Co, it zoomed in on Ash and Co and completely ignored the Ranger.

It was also nice to see Solana and have Ash remember her, as well as Brock. Although if I was Solana, Dawn would've scared me.

Some really good stuff here. Killer animation, action packed story, recurring character - It's all enough to make you look over the fact that this is just one big, blatant advertisment for a money making spin-off game.


-As painfully annoying as all the Riolu talk has been lately... I can't dislike that thing. I'm sorry, I really am. It was just too freaking adorable for me to harbour any sort of contempt towards. The little snippets of backstory and scenes such as when it discovers it's been tricked in the back of the lorry were just really nice to watch.

-POCHA, POCHA! I'M THE NEXT PIKACHU!

-J was handled much better here than in previous episodes, in my opinion. She was definatelty a lot more brutal this time around, and the fact that she went as far as starting a huge forest fire in order to corner her prey was a testement to just how far she's willing to go to get what she wants.
I also thought it was a nice touch that she was none too happy to see Ash was involved with this, and proceeded to torch him at the end of the episode. Hell hath no fury...

-Gotta love how ridiculously convenient all the wild pokémon appearances were. An Ariados just HAPPENED to be calmly hanging around while electricity and energy balls were flying everywhere, a Nincada just HAPPENED to waltz onto the battle field, a Flowsel just HAPPENED to jump out of the water when it was needed.

-Hajime wasn't quite as dull as the white bread and water that is Hinata, so that was a plus.

Wow, now this is what I call impressive. A recurring villain is starting to have a grudge, or whatever you call it against Ash now. That's good writting right there.

And of course we have a recollection of a familiar face. So can anyone tell me if Solana is indeed training this new Ranger or what?

Normally, I would indeed dl this one, but unless this thing airs as one whole episode, I don't think I could. Too much Japanese in one shot for me... no thank you. I'll be patient and wait for the dub of this to arrive.

Edit: Crap, Gravy you should not have posted that... no, I shouldn't have looked -_-;, now I feel compelled to watch this, if not for the amount of activity in this episode... crud...

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him getting it later down the road sadly enough, the fact this time he really DID use aura is yet another indication he's likely to get one.

After all there still is iron island..and since this riolu was owned the capture speculation will sadly continue.

On a lighter note I like the new styler's look better, and it's nice to see that J's henchmen smartened up and evolved thier bats.

but not enough as thier bats still lose to bugs :p

as for the episode(s) itself i don´t say IT/who...but they belong together....

The first part felt a lot like a mini-movie to me. The animation were very,very, VERY cool, the plot was engaging and Hajime was...ok.
I´m not a fan of Pokémon-Ranger in the anime as their "captures" are too forced for my taste...but, at least their brainwashing machines didn´t seem too brainwashy to me in this episode. It looked like most wild pokemon are too lazy to help and just need a little beyblade action for motivation :p

J shows again that she is the woman. Really, the show needed a villain like her for AGES.
This episode felt so intense. Especially the ending when she was attacking Ash wit her Pokémon. Very cruel.
Both episodes were very cruel for pokemon standards anyway.

I have to agree with Gravy about Riolu.
The fandom is getting on my nerves with all the Riolu nonsense, but this episode showed me again why I love the Lucario-line so much.
During Ash´s interaction with it I suddenly caught myself thinking that a Riolu for Ash´s team wouldn´t be so bad at all...yeah,..I got infested by the devil, I know...

Anyway, episodes like this reminds me WHY I watch Pokémon after all these years without thinking about it.

By a comfortable mile, the best episode in D/P. But i'm pretty sure DP 73 and 74 is gonna be better >:) Love the plot, voice, references to previous movies and the use of the 8th movie soundtrack. I don't like how Ash is totally helpless against Hunter J and was saved numerous times by the Hajime though. The battles seems to focus more on the pokemon rangers too and I was expecting more from Hunter J than just leaving after handing over Riolu : \

I used up all my Beyblade jokes during the BF Ranger episodes. Yes, your dear chum Suikun is indeed just a one-trick pony.

I gotta be honest about those previous Ranger episodes - I didn't care for them. Whether it was because they felt like formulaic fillers with legends slapped in there, or because Hinata had the personality of drywall, they sure didn't sell any copies of Ranger to me. And while I won't bite the bait again this time, either, this was a definite improvement.

It's good to know the Hunters have "upgraded" to Crobats as to distinguish them from the Galactic grunts. Wasn't CyberCubed just wondering where Sharpedo went? Well, they're back, and more than ever, jerks for no apparent reason. J was no less relentless this time around, essentially attempting to outright kill the gang in the river, and making Smokey the Bear roll in his grave by purposely starting a forest fire. And thus, I leave you with this thought:
Remember kids, only you can prevent forest fires. Except for the fact that forest fires are a part of nature's cycle, and attempting to prevent them only creates worse firestorms down the road. Damn you, Smokey and your furry animal friends! Your lies forever plague my childhood!

For the first row, this officially shows that no matter what the character may look like in game, the anime has the odd ability to make them look tolerable to look at. He even looks like a proper ranger.

The second row, I can no longer stop laughing. Prof Oak dressed up in a Ranger outfit officially made my night (as day is a bit of an understatement, especially at the time of posting this).

Still haven't seen this yet, but I probably will. I feel like I'm missing out...

Blue Ash...tell me that's not Aura. If so, then may we have Aura Pokemon in the near future, if not already.

Besides, it seems every single ranger in Fiore has Aura as well, depending on how the targeting works in the game. Just like Ash, everyone has Aura, it's just some people - notably Gary-Stus - have a better knowledge of the system, just as everyone has bleak psychic powers, though some can bend cutlery with their mind.

Also, Ash almost becoming ash? Irony. He's going to end up breaking a limb if this keeps up...
