Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! (1) (539)

When Kellyn first showed up, I was sad that Solana wasn't with him, but Hunter J almost killing Ash in the woods with Salamence was scary.

Huh, gotta love how ridiculously convenient all the wild Pokemon appearances were. An Ariados just happened to be hanging around, a Nincada just waltzed onto the battle field, a Floatzel just HAPPENED to jump out of the water when it was needed.

As a fan of Ranger 2, I liked how this episode covered the special Riolu mission. What I didn't like was how we got stuck with Hunter J as the villain instead of Team Dim Sun instead, which would've made more sense.

I didn't think much of them in Shadows of Almia, but I felt that Hunter J was a good stand-in for Team Dim Sun here since she was a much more threatening character.

Even though this episode was mainly a way of promoting the second Pokemon Ranger game, it was exciting enough on its own. I actually enjoyed Hajime more than I liked Hinata, and Riolu's aversion of humans was a good subplot. The return of Hunter J gave this episode a lot of intensity too, although I did question whether she was attempting to kill Satoshi.

So now that Ash has officially used his aura ability in the anime the chances of him still possibly getting Riolu later on continues and very much increase now.

In hindsight, I wish that the villain here had been someone related to the second Pokemon Ranger game, not just Hunter J. I would've loved to see Black Hole or Mirakado show up here.

I love this epsiode, I can't wait to watch the second part (which I will see in a few minutes).

It's a really great episode and I love that Ash's aura abilities are in this again, like in the Lucario & Mew movie.
