With 81 new Pokemon in a region as big as this one, would you rather have 162 Pokemon in the overall Regional Dex? That's 81 new and 81 old. Both even. Not enough to liven up the region if you ask me.

Honestly, a regional dex (not just the new batch, but the overall dex, mind you) only needs to represent each of the 18 types enough for someone to make a full team of six of that type (for hypothetical rematches with E4, GL and Champion). That's 108 in the Dex if you just use 6 stand-alone Pokémon of each type. If you include 3-stage families and dual-types, you could easily get by with like 250 Pokémon in a regional Dex.

Hell, if you include cross-generational relatives from Generations 3, 4 and 6, and include Mega Evolutions and Alolan forms, the Johto-Kanto Dex is the ideal. Appropriate amount of type distribution, a large number but not obscenely large, a 2:1 old-to-new ratio, etc.

And wally doesn't seem like the person who would fight you in the middle of a sunfilled flower field (in a cave...) while his out of nowhere theme blares sick guitar solos at you but that happened

Besides Kukui of all people gets 2 battle intros so why not the rival you fight all game? Doesn't even have to be him getting serious or have character development (which he probably will because even the XY friends had a character arc no matter how flimsy). Maybe Hau gets a z ring or mega bracelet and his animation changes to reflect it, for example?

Could happen as well. The rival usually does get the same item as you in the end.

Assuming the Kahuna with the dark grey/black aura is a Dark type specialist, then we should be seeing at least one new Dark type pokemon. So far both Hala and Olivia have aces that are new pokemon (Crabrawler and Lycanroc N).

Not really sure what it would be though. Nothing really looks Dark type, maybe Wimpod2?

I didn't really think about that. You're right. One of these guys must be Dark type, unless his ace is Alolan Persian.

Litten3 looks like the only new Pokemon that gains the Dark type. Maybe that'll be her ace.
There are always characters in the game who have starter mons aside from the player and rival(s). That is how those who don't choose Litten/Popplio will probably "see" the Litten line's final evolution. Assuming we have to see everyone again in order to gain the Regional dex, there was always a way for somebody with only one game to get it without trading.

Wait did I miss something? There is a Kahuna that's a Dark pokemon user? Whoa cool! Maybe the Diving Bell Spider is Dark. Hopeful Dark/Electric!

That's just a theory right now. I'm also hoping the Diving Bell Spider is Dark, but I'd rather it be the first Dark/Bug.

That one is more possible though it does have a black and yellow coloring so who knows, but either way it would be a typing combo we've never had so I'd be okay with either. But a Dark Kahuna would be great as the other three are typings we've seen with Gym Leaders over and over again.

Have you guys noticed the other type based battle intros in that video. They seem to be a type related intro including;
Rock (shooting rock effects)
Electric or Fighting (impact effects)
Water (waterfall effect)
Ghost (Hazey effect) and
Flying (feathers effect)

And I don't mean the swirly Kahuna ones which seem to imply (fighting, rock, ground and dark)

Oh is Mudsdale Girl supposed to be a Kahuna as well? That would be disappointing. Having a Rock and Ground Kahauna are too smilar. And Yes I know there are slight differences but they have similar weaknesses so that would a little overkill. Wished we got Poison, Fairy, Steel or Fire instead. Oh well....

Things seem to be pointing towards that. She even has a lot of purple in her clothing, just like Hala has yellow and Olivia has pink, each representing one of the islands.

But I make out in the background Mudsdale Girl is on UlaUla

We were never going to get a Fire Kahuna (because Kiawe), but I have no issue with Ground. It and Rock are paired off in many people's minds, but they are two distinct Tyes. Besides, her team could be pretty beastly, thanks to the powerful Ground-Types in the Alola Dex (Gastrodon, Krookodile, and Garchomp come to mind). And let's not forget that Poni Island is almost entirely one big canyon, so it being run by a Ground specialist just makes sense.

And our friend Mary Mudsdale is not a mere girl. She's definitely older than people think. It's just been difficult to tell from the very little we've seen of her, I'm sure, and her height is likely also slanting people's view of her age some.

But I make out in the background Mudsdale Girl is on UlaUla

What, so she's not allowed to travel? :p

The scene with her close up is hard to locate, but there is a scene earlier in the trailer(last scene before Pikachu's Z-move) from Poni's canyons that shows a Mudsdale and a person that looks very similar to Mudsdale girl, albeit a little unclear due to the camera being zoomed out.

I'd say that's her. She's the right height, wearing the same clothes, has the same hair/skin color. It's my girl Mary Mudsdale, for sure. For everyone who wants an image for reference, here you are:

Huh, whaddya know.

Yeah! She was trying to be sneak past us, but it failed, probably because she's being followed by an 8'02" 2000+ pound draft horse :p

Surprise, surprise, I'm thrilled at the thought of a Dark Kahuna. Even people who aren't as obsessed with the Dark type as I am have been hurting for more Dark representation in our challenges and one E4 member just didn't really do it.

I'm so ready for this game. There's been such innovation: really cool designs, speciation, Pokéride and thus an end to HM slaves, stepping away from the gym format and hints towards what might be the most complex plot we've seen yet (though it remains to be seen if that's the case). Really looking forward to seeing what they reveal tomorrow. Hoping for typings for some of the datamined pokemon, myself.

I personally think she's Kahuna #4 who has taken a small trip to Ula Ula. It's not uncommon for strong characters to travel - most of the champions, a couple of elite four members and a decent amount of gym leaders have all been seen to travel, some over islands - Steven around Hoenn's islands bring an example. I believe it's just another thing like that.
