yeah no N is just nonsensical

It'd be like the gen 4 representative being like...Lucian.

I'm also genuinely surprised we didn't get Lance, who'd pull double duty as a gen 1 & gen 2 reference.

Yeah, Grimsley is a very odd choice. The entire Unova E4 was very forgettable.
But I guess it's nice a Dark specialist will be in the game somehow, even though he isn't a trial captain/kahuna.

Am I the only one seeing a really cool duo team with Salandit>Salazzle and Mareanie>Toxapex? Sala has alot of moves with poisoning options and can poison steel/poison typings with its Corrosion ability. Now bring in Mareanie>Toxapex with its Merciless Ability critical hits no matter what move as long as the enemy is poisoned. So in theory you could poison and absorb hits with Sala then switch to Mareanie>Toxapex for finishing them off.

Or is that just totally stupid? lol I'm asking because I'm thinking of having both these guys on my team but I'm not 100% sure that's a great idea...
It may be an interesting combination for VGC17/Double battles. One does the poisoning, the other punishes with the status effects. Not sure it has the attacking stats for it though... but Venoshock may help? =/

Toxapex is gonna be ferrothorn level of annoying.
I don't know about that. It is tanky and has great abilities and moves to use them with, but its also got more weaknesses and a lot less HP than Ferrothorn.

<><><>

On another note, I just noticed Mega Alakazam got that 10 extra base stats they forgot to give it in gen 6! (until now Alakazam got a 90 point increase when it mega evolved instead of a 100).

It has the reliable recovery ferrothron lacks though

They get very poor defensive synergy, sharing a weakness to Ground and Psychic and not covering each other's weaknesses very well at all. In addition, Toxapex's offensive stats are both very low, meaning it really can't take advantage of the critical hits very much. Plus there's a lot of scenarios in which a Scald burn would be more useful than poison anyways for Toxapex. I think Regenerator will be the ability of choice on Toxapex sets, and while it will be a great Pokemon on Stall teams, it likely won't see much use in doubles thanks to its overall passive nature.

Salazzle on the other hand has that potent combo of Corrosion Toxic and Taunt, allowing it to singlehandedly break down passive stall teams. I can see her being a very potent threat to stall as a playstyle.

I don't know about that. It is tanky and has great abilities and moves to use them with, but its also got more weaknesses and a lot less HP than Ferrothorn.

It gets Recover and Haze, which is nice. Actually, Ferrothorn and Toxapex have decent synergy for stall teams with Ferrothorn resisting Electric and Psychic and at least being neutral to Ground while Toxapex resists Fighting and Fire for Ferrothorn.

Not only that, but it's pre-evolution could be quite a great LC mon, with decent bulk, Eviolite and access to recovery. It also gets Regenerator, Scald and it's own version of protect. It'll be quite a capable mon indeed.

Anyone notices that Cut is no longer in any learn set anymore? Even though the game data still has it.

Couldn't you still transfer a Pokemon with Cut to S/M via Pokemon Bank?

Hmmm. Weren't all the HM's turned into TM's?
Anyway, just because it's in the game's data, doesn't necessarily mean it is intended to be in that game?
I don't know! I think I'm confusing myself.

Still needs it for compatibility reasons. Bank doesn't block HMs unless you have literally no one else available, iirc

would be funny if they made it a tutor next game

Cut?? A Move Tutor?? HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAH

They've done dumber things before. Emerald had a defense curl move tutor.

Platinum on had a Twister move tutor and that's roughly equivalent to having a water gun move tutor.
