I'm betting he's not the answer to the second question. Too much blue, no eye-catching red.

But who is he indeed? We already have a Water-type Captain and there's no Flying-type Totem.

No one we've seen, it seems. The only NPC's with noticeable red in their designs are Kiawe, Lillie, and Gladion, so we don't really have any viable options to go with.

I'm liking the idea of him being our guide from island to island. Still, that wouldn't quite fit with him having a dramatic cutscene all the way on the last island.

Well, let's look at current trial captains.

Confirmed are Kiawe, Sophocles, Mallow, Lana and Ilima are confirmed. Plus, Purple girl without mudstale could be a captain.

So that is six. We know Kukui is not a captain in the full game because of what Guzma says. I think this guy is our potential 7th trial captain, specialising in flying types.

Anyone here can correct me if I'm wrong.

The final Totem Mon is Kommo-o, and since Hala uses Fighting Mons, that means the final Captain is going to use Dragons. So unless Pelipper got a major bit of retconning to its Typing, he's not a Trial Captain.

Whose to say purple girl isn't a dragon trial captain? Maybe Pelipper dude is trial cap. Number 6.

The other Totem Mon that doesn't fit the 5 revealed Captains Types is Mimikyu. Purple Patricia Patchwork is a Ghostly girl, without a doubt.

Hmm... Now I'm really interested as to not only who is the dragon trial cap, but what Pelipper guy's role is. Maybe Pelipper guy is Mr Briney's son who moved from Hoenn, evolved Peeko and acts as the transporter until we get poke ride - surf edition.

Surprisingly enough, someone actually posted that as a theory a couple pages ago.

Would love if it did happen, TBH.

It makes it unlikely yeah, and it's not a flying trial that is true but I don't think there's an established rule that he can't have a Pelliper while
running the dragon trail. (And if you combine being the trial captain with also being a ship captain/guide for us, the cutscene might make a bit more sense, and dragon types aren't exactly subtle so having a pokemon matching his initial role makes sense, but this is just an off the cuff hypothetical)

I did! That was me :) I meant it more as a joke than anything else, but if he is Percival Johannes Temegula Briney the Third [citation needed], that would be interesting.

He's also seen further inland by Poni's giant tree, meaning he won't just be appearing on the docks, which could help lend some credence to him leading a Trial. And yes, the Dragon-Type Z-Crystal is in fact blue, so his clothing would match.

All of that aside, him having a Pelipper is still odd, though I suppose it could make for a good misdirect.

Oh, you were the one to post that? I thought you did, but I wasn't 100% sure.

Anyways, I doubt Bluebeard is a Captain. He doesn't have the Trial Captain symbol on him and he seems a wee bit too old given most Captains are fairly young.

I'm not saying that I think for sure that he's a Captain (I actually really doubt it), but I figured I'd still present the evidence that could work in von Pelliper's favor for all those interested :)

We've actually already seen Pelipper man before the trailer at the end of the demo. He was seen in the Legendary trailer at 0:10 alongside a Pyukumuku, Corsola, and of course, a Pelipper. It makes me wonder if the Pelipper is his at all, and maybe it's just there because it is a seafaring Pokémon.
